  1. My Esky is a similar colour and has a similar unmanagable coat  She never looks shiny, but her coat looks a lot lot lot better with frequent grooming. It'll never be a shiny as a Rott or dobe shining in the sun, but fully groomed the long hair flying around is an amazing sight :)
  2. You should do DWD with him, he looks like a performer :) I love the jump trick how did you teach that?
  3. I was told by someone who owns a terrier ( so not sure if its true) but she told me they were bred to have stong tails so that owners could use the tail to pull them out of burrows etc. Wonder if that's true?
  4. Yep open every weekend and public holiday. Only closed Christmas, very handy
  5. Oh, would a physio be the person to go to, or a chiro?
  6. Just had to have a swollen face checked out there today. They were really really good shepherd power. We had Dr Sandy Something she was very very nice, Esky loved her
  7. After some consistenly poor training runs with Esky I've been suggested to get her check out for any physical problems. So would a canine chiro be the appropriate person to go see or is there some other branch of vet sceience I don't know about ? Does anyone in SA have some one they go to? I found an old thread on this, but it was very old so who knows if it would still be relevant. Thanks ETA: Oh yeah and how much should I be expecting to pay for a consult?
  8. Thanks. I didn't watch the whole thing, I need to get through the first few stages so I watched that bit with intent. I'll have to re watch later. According to my tape measure Esky is approx 83 ish cm high and approx 110 ish cm long. So the biggest crate would suit right?
  9. I've got a few questions about crates. Esky was crated at night as a pup to help with housebreaking. It wasn't the most successful and as soon as she outgrew the crate we didn't need to use it so stopped. ( We did by a crate the right size for a female adult husky, but Miss Esky turned out to be just a teeny bit bigger ) I want to crate train her primarily so she has somewhere safe to sleep with me in the tent when we're out sled racing. Last year set up was less than ideal. Both curled up in my little car  According to this guide from K9Pro http://k9pro.com.au/blog/?p=373 Esky will need the XXL size. Is that correct? Another question. I've been watching 'Crate Games' and want to start from scratch using these methods. I didn't hear it covered in the DVD but I'm guessing the dogs don't have free access to their crates throughout the day because otherwise they would be undoing the training. Is that right? Sorry if this is confusing. I'm confused myself
  10. I think I've just found my new vet then ;)
  11. We love it. :) We just excercise when we can. It's the only time of the year I don't have to get up at stupid o clock to get Esky and the scooter out
  12. Sorry a little derailement, but I don't want to start another thread. Is there some kind of shampoo of product that could make Esky's coat harsher/ less soft?
  13. How exciting Iggylover. Can;t wait to see pics :D
  14. So I should be more persistent in getting Esky excercising more, to get her to top fitness. I'm looking into getting a treadmill as well, so we can get a few decent excercise sessions in per day. Food wise what do you feed your race dogs Pav lova (if you don't mind me asking)
  15. Just something I've been musing a fair bit lately. What determines how much energy a dog has? Is it something he's born with? Has it got to do with quality and quantity of food? Do energy level increase with greater fitness? I'd be interested to hear what people have to say on this subject. :D
  16. Aww so cute. Hasn't he grown fast. Bet the family is loving him
  17. Has to be spelt Bucket though. Confuse lotsa people.
  18. Katski what is it about the sibe that appeals to your husband? A lady from this forum has a number of cavs and a Lappie and they get on royally from what I hear. Depending on what you are after it may suit you better. Esky has only recently stopped treating small dogs a prey objects. She's fine with cats, but obviously needed more work with smaller dogs.
  19. Hopefully if she was still young someone from racing could adopt Esky. I don't think I would want family looking after her. They aren't the type of owners I would want for her.
  20. My Childhoon duck was Follow, because he followed me around Our current cat is Corpesgrinder :D
  21. In a suburban setting do GSPs bark a lot? I would imagine gun dogs would have to be quiet when they are out on the hunt so as not to scare off the animals, but I know very little about gun dogs in general. Is there much difference in the natures between the males and females? Are they fairly obedient, or do they use their own initiative when it comes to following commands?
  22. Augustine, you shouldn't end up with any white puppies if you breed to a solid male. Somebody posted a link about that a few pages back. So just limit your stud search to solid males :)
