  1. So cute! I'm glad you decided to take him and I'm glad the name's stuck. Hope to see you out at some shows
  2. I've got the day off so should be there.
  3. I saw this on the front of the paper today. Slow news day was my first thought! I hope this doesn't encourage people to get a 'large' or 'scary' dog they can't control.
  4. I think you should stick to your 'A' theme ;) I like Anika. That's my besties name. There are two ways to pronounce it though and people always got hers wrong. Her's was pronounced Ah nee kah but half our teachers called her Annie ka
  5. I know this is off the original topic, but I also agree that registered breeders advertising in the trading post/ local paper/ gumtree is a fantastic idea. To someone scrolling through the ads, they will be able to see how good of a deal they get buying from a registered breeders. The word has to get out there somehow GOod luck with your search Lhok. Have you looked at the breed clubs? Here's the NSW Dachie club http://www.dachshundclub.org.au/ There's a puppy list and also a list of contactable breeders who are members. Including 7 who are listed as breeding the standard long haired. Worth a look if you hadn't already :D
  6. How cute is Loki! Congrats on your new addition Cassie. I'll have to come say Hi when you start showing. Everyone seems to be getting their pups soon. How excitement!!
  7. Don't think so but we travel down from Mannum sometimes. Also the park is pretty easy to find I used to make the trip from Myponga every month ;) Now i live a little bit closer!
  8. Why not come ask that in the spitz breed thread? This is how temperament is described in the breed standard for Lappies The UK standard states And this is what the standard from New Zealand states I don't personally own one yet, but I have been doing research into the breed for quite some time now and can't wait to have one in the family! I am a little biased though as I am in love with them, and have liked every Lappie that I've met. Here is a thread specifically about the breed, with lots of information, you can add questions too http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/174330-finnish-lapphund/
  9. If you're interested in Samoyeds have you had a look at Finnish Lapphunds. They're a smaller breed, but not a small breed. I know of a few that are owned by people in town house type set ups. If you research your lines a bit you should be able to find one with a more relaxed personality. That's not to say it doesn't need excercise, but there are some dogs better suited to your set up and a breeder would be able to help you pick one. Paps are really great dogs too. If you're after a companion for your maltese it might be safer to have them the same size. Some of the breeds you mentioned could do a lot of damage to a maltese without meaning to.
  10. Border Collies are very trainable might be worth a look in. Some one else can fill you in on the grooming, but there are a fluffier dogs as well as smooth coated ones so grooming would vary accordingly. Or what about a smooth collie. I think there are numerous breeds that could suit.
  11. I knew it was Kyojin as soon as I opened the page. Obviously you did really well :D
  12. It's strange, I never bonded with Esky much at first. I think I was so worried something might happen to her that I became a bit over protective. Around the 7-8 month mark I felt like we were bonding more but now it seems like that has gone away. Our 'personalities' just seem to clash heaps. I'm stubborn, she's stubborn. Some days it's such a battle of wills. She is a lot more bonded to my OH, so I might just have to face the fact that she's his dog. I really feel like I've done something wrong and feel awful a lot of the time. I love her, I just find it really hard to like her some days
  13. Love the name Anna. Wonder if it will stick when you meet him.
  14. Lottie have you have the pleasure of meeting a Lappie? They are VERY enchanting. It's almost impossible not to want one after meeting one. :p
  15. I wouldn't be put off by markings etc if it was the perfect dog for me personality wise. Of course if there was any uncertainty at all surrounding the pup I would not take it. There is nothing to feel bad about though, I'd rather a missed opportunity than a risked and regretted impulse decision!
  16. Nooo Sorry to hear that Teebs
  17. The lady who got bailed up was also a witness, I'm sure bogan lass would assume the complaint came from her. And for good bloody reason. Poor lady must have been terrified!
  18. Off topic, but sweet jesus that dog is amazing!
  19. Aussie Bulldog is not a breed it's the name of a designer cross, and as such doesn't have a standard set of characteristic traits to which it is bred. The boxer could work, my sister in law has one pure and one cross. They're both great with her kid. But very agressive towards other people / dogs when they are out. It's not the dog's fault they were both very poorly socialized, with a better owners they would be great family dogs. Or perhaps a darkly coloured adult greyhound could suit
  20. If you attach leach to a walking belt around your middle you can call it Canicross, Wuffles
  21. Well you've got at least a year to get super fit, til your dog is matured enough to go for real runs with you. I'm juuust getting into running with Esky. (I suck ATM ) but I've never enjoyed running ever in my whole life. It feels a lot less stupid when you've got a dog with you.
  22. Yes, I've seen those a few times. What's the point? If you want a small spitz dog get a pom If you want a larger spitz dog get a husky. Everyday people seem to get stupider!
