When I was a kid I often thought about having 'Towser II " There can never be another Towser I think reusing names is a bit off. But it wouldn't happen to us anyway, everyone in our family if you could call it that is named alphabetically Ash (me) Boyd (OH ) Corpsegrinder (cat) Didge (deceased) and Esky I'll tell you though it's still not any easier to name a dog this way. You should see how many 'F' names I have!

Awww *squeee* They are adorable, I don't think I've ever seen baby greys (outside that 'fluff' thread ) What a colourful litter

No, If they haven't done any research at all the breed is not for them. All dogs require training, huskies can be very stubborn, they aren't dumb by any stretch, but they can be very independent. Unless you put a LOT of work into teaching a recall then I wouldn't even consider it. It takes a lot of work before you could trust them off leash. Every registered breeders website says something along the lines of ' do not get a husky until you've done your research, these dogs are not for everyone!' Also FWIW husky pups, raised in a healthy environment, with all nessesary vetwork etc etc don't cost any more than that If they're after the husky look without the attitude another spitz like a lapphund may suit better

I was a lurker here long before I was a member I didn't want to join at first because the dog I had at the time was not pedigree. Once I had my pedigree husky it was my ticket to sign up

Would You Give Your Dog Ice-cream?
Esky the husky replied to Atanquin's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'll get the odd soft serve cone for Esky if she comes for a trip in the car or if we've just been to a DOL meet or a race. She loves it. It's only an occasional thing, everything in moderation -
What kind of dogs do you like the look of gtjell?

C There are all kinds of tools at your disposal for walking your husky. I have tried out many different ones. A lot of people in our obedience club use harnesses where the lead clips onto the front. If the dog tries to pull it spins them around so that they're facing you. Picture says a thousand words so here is what I'm on about http://www.walkyourdogwithlove.com/ Thats one of the many variations of what I'm talking about. I've got martingale, slip collars, flat collars, racing harness. D I love Kong toys, great way to keep dogs occupied. Sometimes I'll buy a small can of commercial dog food, a can of sardines or tuna or freeze some lunch meat or leftovers into the Kong. Some people are wary of Kongs being a choking hazard, so just be wary. My first husky would not have a bar of her Kong so it's very much an individual thing . Now we need pics :D ETA: training treats will depend on your dog, one husky I had was mental for schmackos; but if I could give Esky any reward it would be toast. Cheese toasties or just plain buttered toast. I keep it as a super special treat though.

Hey Raybans Good on you for rescuing :D Hope it all pans out. A) This is what a furminator does on a husky. I do own one, but it's useless on my girl (who is incredibly wooly ) It wasn't even long enough to get all the way through her undercoat. It's now a brush I only use on the cat. The brushes the Whisked Away suggested are your best bet. I have similar equipment, but I bought a cheaper comb IMO it's better to pay a little more for one that doesn't fall apart every ten seconds. In general huskies are pretty wash and wear. But again having a wooly it takes a lot more grooming. B diet is a very personal thing, depending on your personal beliefs, budget and your dogs constitution (as in what they thrive on ) I'm quite an avid raw feeder and Esky has been raw fed since we got her. I've recently put her onto commercial dry for a few weeks. I didn't like the effect that it had with her. I'll stick to what I know. I've had a girl thrive on supercoat though. If it were up to me I would not feed Science diet. Here is the ingredients list of the Adult Active Ground Whole Grain Corn, Chicken By-Product Meal, Animal Fat , Dried Beet Pulp, Soybean Oil This is only the first ten ingredients as an example So as with human foods, dog food ingredients are listed by quantity. If you got a can of beetroot for example the ingredients would read Beetroot (which there is the most of), Water, salt and then whatever colours, preservatives of flavour they added. So essentially the first ingredient in this food is corn, the second is chicken bits and so on. There is really not much meat in there. Also I have a problem with un named animal products as in the Animal fat. I'd prefer it to say Chicken Fat for example. It's like getting 'Chicken Nuggets' from KFC as opposed to 'Poultry Nuggets'. Who knows what would be in poultry nuggets, pigeon, turkey, eagle, emu ? You get my point For comparison here is the ingredients from pedigree pal adult dry meat and meat by products, wheat &/or sorghum and/or barley, wheat bran, glycerol, sunflower oil This is from Purina Pro plan ( the one Whisked Away feeds ) Chicken, wholegrain wheat, poultry meal (natural source of glucosamine), corn gluten meal, wholegrain yellow corn Sorry for rambling there, I just got so over animal professionals pushing certain brands down my throat that I did a lot of research so that I could make informed choices I'd keep your girl on whatever the RSPCA has her on, and if your not happy with it or want to change foods make sure it's gradual so as to not upset her tummy.

What a loony Great shots English Ivy

It'll be interesting to find out then since Esky isn't a show dog. I wonder if it will just colour her undercoat then because that is wooly

Friend Is Determined On Getting A Puppy That Is For Free
Esky the husky replied to haylz27's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'd be steering her towards rescue. Maybe a breed rescue if GSDs have them. You can mention that all the vetwork desexing etc etc if included in a rescue cost unlike a BYB who may or may not worm and may or may not vaccinate the dogs. -

Don't really have any breed biases. I do get a little bit nervous when I see powerful breeds like amstaffs, rotties and shepherds pulling like a freight train on a leash that I could use to floss my teeth. I've got nothing against those breeds, seeing the walking nicely with their owners and I wouldn't have a problem.

We have a kingsize bed. Esky takes up more than half if she wants to. Selfish bitch!

I'm so sorry to hear that Dju

It's a big choice. Especially when you've got a 2 dog rule (or in our case 2 dog council law) to consider. Part of me wants another husky, but another part says 'no not again' and my partner has said NO to any more huskies. I love the breed, but then you have an OMG why do I own one of these dogs moments. The spitz thread has introduced us to lappies and we really like them. I'm also very keen on an Aussie or a Smooth Collie If / when we get another dog it has to get on with Esky and she seems to be a fan for working breeds as well

What To Put In The Backyard For Dogs?
Esky the husky replied to Isabel964's topic in General Dog Discussion
Do they do zoomies up and down the ramps Idigadog? I can picture my loony doing just that. If I could design a dog yard there is a LOT I would do One would be to have a cave or den for my girl. She's got a half arsed one under the pergola thing. The floor of the pergola is 3/4 concrete slab, and her little den is under the wooden decking bit. She loves to get in there and sing to herself. My dog is strange :p A clam shell pool or similar water feature is a winner here as well. -
We need a pedigree dogs are awesome movie. (or something with more zing )
