  1. I just got a big sigh. Like 'muuum shut that dog up' *moodily lies bad down* WHat a clever little dog, awesome party trick!
  2. I'm sad I missed it. Glad everyone had a good day. Will you all be out again next weekend??
  3. Seems like a long winded way to prove a point. I like it
  4. Crumbs I forgot this was on! I've had many coffees today, so lets see if I can get to sleep and then wake up
  5. That was at Wingello this year. I met this lovely boy. Esky, as you know, it's very important to get two dogs that match when you are going to run them in a team. A dog of another breed that might very well run for 5kms at 10km/hr is not going to keep up with a Sibe. Your team will be mismatched and you will end up getting very frustrated. Good conformation is not the only thing you need to look at. The natural ability and drive to pull in harness is imperative. I know so many people that have come out to our training sessions with their pet dog who believe they will be great racers because they pull them on the lead when walking. Not so! It's hard to train a GSP because it's not inbred for them to pull. A lot of time and dedication is required and from being involved in this sport for 15 years, I can tell you there are only a handful of GSP's that have continued running past the age of three because they have been pushed too hard too fast. They take time to mature and unlike my Sibes who start training in harness from 6 months, I wouldn't put a GSP in harness until around 18 months. Ultimately, if your partner is adamant that he will not have another Sibe, then you are probably looking at having two 1 dog teams if you want to run successfully. A pointer of any kind will be too fast for Esky but other breeds will be too slow. I guess what I'm saying is that you can only run as fast as your slowest dog and if your team is mismatched, not only will you be frustrated but your dogs will be too. Make sense? Totally understand, and really really appreciate your input :D I figured it might not work out as a team thing either. (MAYBE I could even get OH into running his own 'team' ) In all honesty though finding anyone to match Esky would be a bit of a gamble. Maybe a racing sibe with it's brains removed
  6. The breeder decision will be as important as the decision on breed itself. A whole other kettle of fish
  7. Vicki Have you had a look on the DOL puppies for sale pages? http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/puppies/bichon-frise.asp http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/puppies/west-highland-white-terrier.asp
  8. While you are transitioning them you could always put chicken carcass mince into a kong and freeze. That keeps my girl busy for at least an hour!
  9. Thanks Laneka. He looks like he's having a ball!
  10. That second picture I bet they are real characters Inevitablu
  11. Personally wouldn't want my dog to approach others. I want her to walk nicely next to me and when we run I allow her in front of me. Ideally I want her ignoring other dogs on walks.
  12. I was wondering if they would be suited. OH has owned 2 'rotties' (they weren't registered purebreds, I think one was a mix ) before and he really likes the breed. The only concern I've had so far was about HD Our race rules don't allow dogs to be run when the temp is over 15 degrees How do you find your Dally's temperament Juice? I've heard some say they can be challenging.
  13. It's not too far, nothing like overseas. 1 dog runs are about the 3-3.5 kms 2 dog runs are slightly more. But then you have 2 dogs doing the work. There are some GSPs who run and a guy who has Labs. Got a 2 dog team of GSD's who run down this way as well. OH however embarrassed me at the last show we went to together, loudly stating his opinions on show GSDs *sigh*
  14. Yep there are some GSPs this way that do very well. :D
  15. I would eventually like to add another dog to our family pack. We are a young couple with 1 cat and Esky the Siberian. What I/ we want: A dog that I can sled with. Has to be at least medium sized but deerhound sized. A dog that wants to be with it's people. A dog that can be 'loyal' and 'trustworthy' OH has said no to any more huskies (or malamutes) This is what he doesn't like about huskies *direct quote* Anyone got some ideas of breeds that might suit us that I could research? I've been looking at a few, but DOL is always a great source of inspiration ;)
  16. He does LappieHappy, but too small for sledding I think I should start a thread on this stop stealing other peoples :p
  17. I have a bathroom audience too. The cat opens the door as soon as I go in there, it's a sliding door. And Esky puts her face in the doog to watch Esky is also a 'bed shark' At bed time she hangs around the bed, puts her chin on it and watches us. Waits for an oportunity to jump on.
  18. i had one of those OH who didn't want another dog. I broke him down luckily. My first dog loves playing with other dogs and its working out fantastically. there is still a borzoi pup looking for a home you know ;) Well atleast last time i checked. He dislikes huskies enough as it is, I don't think the Borzoi spirit will suit him either
  19. I have a solo dog Plenty of reasons that I only have one. Mainly the fact I couldn't convince OH to let me get another husky Plus we lived with inlaws for a while, and there was 5 dogs combined there. I was waiting for her to mature a while before adding another pup. Now would be the perfect time, but I can't decide on breeds. So umm she'll be solo for a while to come yet
