  1. Hmm I think 20kg might be a bit big for just one small cat. Does it keep well?
  2. I just picked Esky up, took her deep enough into the flat ocean so that she couldn't stand up and lowered her in. I made sure she was paddling then let her go, all instinct. Funny she loves water but prefers wading to swimming
  3. Can you open up an account with your internet service provider
  4. look at muddy Tag. Thanks for sharing the ad, soo good.
  5. Although I don't think the costs of showing are that bad, I would spend the same if I was out sledding. What's holding me back from showing is just what it would cost me to start up which may be the case for other my age- 20s I've got the house, i've got all the time in the world to spend with my animals. But the mains registered dog + all the other hoo ha that goes with showing is just out of reach at the moment.
  6. Exactly, in my breed people often have large numbers of dogs. They are bred to run as a team, and so the breeders I would dream of a puppy from, have a fair few dogs that run in harness. Pups in training and older dogs who aren't competing any more. There are some people who can easily handle 20 dogs and some who struggle with one, I don't think we should judge them because of this.
  7. Why didn't you ask some of these while they were on the phone? I can imagine some of the answers would take ages to type out and word right, but could be much easier to express verbally.
  8. Have an actual conversation to the breeder about what you want and see if they can accomodate you. Does the breeder know anything about you yet? I always start my communications telling a bit about myself and my situation. Stuff I include would be my experience with the breed, or similar breeds my current dog and what I do with her my plans for the puppy a bit about my living situation, couple, no children, work from home. There are much subtler ways of getting the answers to all your questions once you build up a bit of rapport.
  9. love all the F names. Watch now I'll totally mess up and have a kid and have to call her 'Fridge" I still need to work out a breed, (or get a new partner )
  10. I think you can still salvage this is you're really keen. A few too many questions as a few others have pointed out. You could condense the subheadings down into a question each. For example that last section could pretty much be covered by "how are the puppies raised?" Some will have that information on the website, some may have a 'generic email reply'. If the answers left out something I needed to know, I would ask in a follow up.
  11. Don't let them feel forced though or they resent you and the dog.
  12. I can't decide. Our next family member has to start with 'F' though, as that is the next letter in our alphabet. I want 'Fridge' to go with Esky, but OH thinks it's stupid.
  13. I left Esky inside with our old house last summer. It was 'slightly' cooler in there and I had 3 fans going for her. That house backed onto a big government owned reserve which didn't get slashed very often. In the heat of summer I worried about snakes being in that yard, which had lots of hiding spots for nasty creatures. Our new yard is very secure, no access from the front. I'm happy keeping her out there if I go out. There is lots of natural and artificial shade and she just curls up into a cold spot and sleeps. I'll be working from home soon this summer anyway so I figure she'll be inside with me staying cool.
  14. Huski you make a stunning model Great shots Huga You should make these into a calender Huga!
  15. Does she pick it up off the ground after? I taught Esky to catch by throwing food, then if she missed I would quickly stand on the food so she couldn't get it. The only way to get the food was to open her gob and catch it.
  16. I have a similar scenario to you red dirt dobie. When we first got Esky I was unemployed so had plenty of time around for bonding. Things went south and we ended up having to move in with my partners family for far too long. In that time she had 3 other dogs to play with (and one grumpy chihuahua who didn't like to play) I unfortunately also remained unemployed until we had moved out of there and into our own place. Finally I found a job when Esky was 11 months old. Meaning that both my partner and I weren't around very much. This has been going on for a year now, and although she doesn't have as much company I think she's fine. I do very much want another dog- for me- but it will have to be the right dog, and that is going to take sooome waiting!
  17. We all get silly with excitement when it comes to new pups. I always felt annoying emailing esky's breeder. Thankfully she was very understanding :D
  18. I didn't used to feed dry, but after winning a large amount of Hollistic Select and Eagle Pack at a sled race, Esky has been getting that. I'm currently on my last bag of the Hollistic select and transitioning onto the eagle pack. I've got a catering sized icecream tub filled with a mix of the two foods, when she finishes that she'll be on Eagle Pack. I'm not sure what I'll do when it runs out!
  19. Pictures are nessesary Welcome! Good on you for taking on a rescue
