Vitamin K Treatment For Rat Bait Poisoning
julzjc replied to mirawee's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thinking of you Mirawee. I went through this in september with my dogs (as alot will remember). Although my too were given the Vit K injection, they were both put on only 1 Vit K tablet a day, they are 26kg and 20kg so that dosage should be good for your lighter dogs. I actually have the bottle here. Instructions say -1 tablet per 4-40kg of bodyweight daily. Bonnie did go downhill for a bit (about 5days after eating the bait it started, she ate two full packets) but she picked up after fluids, lost a fair bit of condition muscle wise but is now 100% back to full health. Just keep an eye on their gums for palness and spotting, bloodshot eyes, tiredness and take them back to the vet asap if they do go white. Thoughts and prayers are with you, Julz. ETA- How much did they eat? Did your vet say why they didnt give them the Vit K injection? -
Balance Between Your Fur Babies And Skin Babies
julzjc replied to CazReiAndKuma's topic in General Dog Discussion
x2. When my dogs are resting, no matter where, the kids know they are not allowed anywhere near them. 10mth LOVES the dogs but is so used to them being there that he is not curious about them so never crawls towards them. Kids are not allowed to bother the dogs when they are in their beds unless they ask me first. Vice versa the dogs arent allowed in any bedrooms unless they are invited in (they sit at the entrance and wait). -
Balance Between Your Fur Babies And Skin Babies

You will get there. I have 4 kids 5,3,2,10mth and have my fur/scale kids ~ Amstaff, Sibe, 2 Rabbits, 2bearded dragons and a ridiculous amout of very large tropical fish . My OH works from 5am-5pm 6days a week (or away 3wks, home 3days) so its all on me. I excerise the dogs every morning in the back yard when the kids eat breakfast. Fetch, tug, obedience training, frisbee, hose chasing (squirt water from one side of the yard to the other and they have to target touch the hose with their nose if the want another squirt). They will then sleep the entire day in the house with all of the kids running around. The kids train them aswell, even my 2yr plays fetch with them, tells them to sit, stay, bring it and they both obey. 3yr old and 5yr old girls even play tug with our Amstaff, she plays very gentle with them and drops it when they tell her, ensuring the kids always "win". Our Amstaff is constantly dropping the tug/ball at my 10mth olds feet, trying to entice him to play with her. I walk them when I can in the mornings, could be everyday, could be once a fortnight but they are tired out from our morning sessions in the yard so they just sleep regardless if they get walked. I walk both dogs on my left, 5 + 3yr olds on my right and the boys in the double pram. I put haltis on the dogs on those days, not that they pull, they walk on loose leads behind the pram wheels. But heaven forbid anything unforseen happend, I can not afford for them to bolt and make me loose control of the pram near rds etc. Beter safe than sorry. They are fed outside and put outside anytime I can not supervise them with the kids, ie having a shower,or when there are visiting kids that are not dog savy (alot of them) etc. My OH takes them to an offleash beach at 5am on Sunday mornings and anytime he is off or home early (I have allergic reactions to too many mozzie bites ) I take them for 2hr bike rides or walks. You need to try and and get up before your son and head outside before it gets too hot and just tire them out. Weather its just practising sit, stay drop etc with treats or playing fetch for 30min, it will calm them down for being inside with bub. The more time they spend with bub, the novelty of him will soon wear off and they will start ignoring him. Even put them on a long leash and attach them to the kitchen table so that your son can "visit" them but they can not hassle him. Give it 20-30min and let them off (make no fuss! dont even talk to or look at them!), they likely wont even look at your son, just plod over to a more comforable spot to lie down. I do this when I have elderly, fragile relitives visiting. my dogs are gentle with them but they initally want to give them "welcome paws" or "beat" them with waggy tails (big no no for relitives with blood clotting issues). Hope this helps lol. Sorry for the novel but its what works for me. -
Silly me decided to read this whilst in the middle of uploading photos of the needies in one of the pound threads. I am bawling my eyes out knowing that some of them have under 3hrs left on this earth. Bloody ex owners.

Holiday Spots Near Quiet Dog Friendly Beaches/forests Walks.
julzjc replied to julzjc's topic in General Dog Discussion
Nowhere? -
We own a cabin, down at Durras (near Batemans bay, NSW) where we "can" take the dogs. Problem is that the only place the dogs are allowed to walk is on the rd, inside the caravan park. Not allowed anywhere near the bay/beach/forest tracks or even the grass verges outside the caravan park, which would mean that they would have to be left inside the cabin for a vast amount of time, hence we put them in kennels instead of taking them with us. Atleast the get plenty of free running at their kennels and spoilt by staff. Does anyone have any suggestions on where we can all holiday? Absolutly ANYWHERE in NSW, or surrounding states for future reference, tend to go "walk about", just jump in the car and see where we end up, ie lost in a good way . ~Needs to have enough room for 2Adults, 4Kids, and atleast 2 med/large dogs. ~The quieter, the better. Bonnie has mild barrier aggression with a select few dogs, just involves barking, but no one wants to hear a dog barking on holiday. So the less dogs, the better. We dont care how remote it is, we are there to enjoy being away from the city, not to socialise lol. ~ Would pref a dog friendly beach (even with time restrictions) near by where the kids can swim, again as empty as possible. Or walking trails where the dogs can run offleash safetly. Any suggestions guys? OH desperatly wants to take the dogs on holidays with us but it just not fair to take them to Durras only to have them locked up all the time and not allowed to play/exercise.

I dont think I will ever get that photo out of my thoughts for as long as I live. That is truely horrendous. May the a**holes that did this rot in hell...actually screw that, hell is too nice a place for those sick bas**rds.

My two muppets walk to heel (their choice, I dont mind where they walk) when walked seperatly. If I walk them together then I have both leads in my left hand and I shorten Bonnies lead so she is closest to my leg. Indie will pull to be shoulder to shoulder with her, so along as her lead is short, Indie will loose leash walk alongside her. I CAN NOT walk my dogs at the same time with someone else holding a leash or Indie will cry, spin, howl and pull to be shoulder to shoulder with Bonnie. Angel to walk on his own but he can't handle walking with Bonnie but not being able to touch her. Generally walking them together means I have the double pram + two young kids walking alongside me (when OH is away). So I have the dogs on my left wrist, right hand or both hands on the pram and two kids on my right lol. Alot easier to walk them when I have the pram as they know the routine. They have to keep the pace of my 3yr old so as soon as they see the pram come out they instantly just relax (or sulk lol) and plod slowly along behind the pram wheels.

Perfect GT, exactly what I was looking for. The OH loves making things and the thought of paying $500 for something he can make for $150, he wasnt very keen on. Thankyou. Thanks for the other links guys, they are great cages but the quotes I got from them were a bit on the high side.
-
Evening Everyone. I need to buy/build a Ute cage for our Ford XR6, OH can weld so DIY links would be great or places to buy one around Sydney (pref cheaper than the $500+ that Ive been quoted so far ). It needs to be lightweight enough for one person to put in/take out of the Ute and able to fit an Amstaff and Sibe WITH a dividing barrier. It does not have to be majorly sun proofed as it is only really for our 5am beach trips, we are back by 7am. Indie has only recently started going to the beach with OH and Bonnie but having a soaking wet, sand covered Sibe really isnt doing the family car any favours :D . I have a liner in the back of my car but Indie is still managing to get his sandy, wet hair absolutly everywhere....the joys of owning a Sibe that has discovered swimming and rolling in wet sand ;) .

What Would Your Dog/s Prefer...a Big Meaty Bone Or A Walk?
julzjc replied to fainty_girl's topic in General Dog Discussion
They deffinatly prefer a bone. They will leave it if I tell them too but otherwise they prefer a bone over anything else. Even if a bird (very, very high on their distraction list) lands right beside them, nup, they will glance at it and carry on with their bone. Actually, Bonnie's tug toy holds higher value to her than a bone but thats it. -
So sorry to hear of your loss Raelene, rest easy over the rainbow bridge sweet girl .

"professional" Dog Walkers Walking Muzzled Dogs...
julzjc replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
Its possible the dog is generally friendly but if attacked by another dog it will retaliate. Bonnie is great with other dogs, HOWEVER, if they lunge and snarl at her first she would 100% retaliate if we are not quick enough to tell her to "leave it". She is allowed to play with well behaved dogs I know well and walked onlead the rest of the time but she still gets rushed alot by offlead dogs. If I was going to take her on an outing where I knew there would likely be alot of idiots with offlead poorly behaved dogs then I would deffinatly muzzle her. Not because she is "out of control", simple because its in her nature not to back down if another dog starts something. Could be that those dogs are the same, they are not actually DA but they wont back down if threatend, with their size/stregth safer to have them muzzled just in case. Just a thought, dont flame me .
