  1. So what do we do with them if we don't kill them? Domesticate them...duh
  2. And yet you chose to quote from and cite a wikipedia article....seriously I thought everyone knew wikipedia wasn't a reputable source in which to back up fact
  3. She hasn't shown any signs of pain and moves freely during swimming and running at the beach yesterday, but I will get her checked out. This was my first thought, and sorry but growling is a sign of pain, you might not see it in her movement because they can adjust their movements to avoid pain over time meaning you may not notice. As everyone has said 1. Call the recommended behaviourist, tell her you've been bitten 2. Take Layla to a vet for a full check 3. Go to the doctor to check your hand Good luck :)
  4. And the rest of the day? We don't all have the luxury of spending 23 hours a day with our dogs
  5. I was worried about that too perse, we were pretty lucky that it seemed to fall off as the nail grew out, and we were really over the top about keeping it clean. Any foot injurioes are SUCH a PITA though. Mo also split one of his pads right open and it took about 2 months to even start healing, I was going mental trying to keep him away from it Especially with a bouncy, 18mo cattle dog X...he just turns off to the pain to get us to play and run around with him, but the few times I've let him play he has knocked his foot and made it bleed, so no more games for him until its healed
  6. I'm keeping a good eye on it Pers, now that he has finished his meds it is clean, pink and not inflamed. Trust me I'm not going to let it get infected By putting the bandage on it shouldn't be getting caught on anything, its just weird he tolerated the latest lot of bandaging for two days (changed once a day) but then he just decided to chew it off
  7. Pers the top part of the nail came off, I think the bottom part is still there, its hard to see because we can't keep him still enough. The vet did get a decent look and I told her I thought there was still some there but she seemed to think it wasn't going to affect it, just that it would continue to grow out like normal
  8. Jackson broke his front dew claw two weeks ago, at first I just kept it clean and covered it in a small bandage, but he kept licking his foot so much he made it worse and created more sore spots, so we took him to the vet and he was bandaged and put on antibiotics and anti inflammatory meds and sent home with a 'cone of shame' The vet told us to remove the bandage in two days, this we did. He kept licking at the raw nail (nerve) so I put another bandage on to keep it covered, but then he started scratching his paw on the cone to try and get it (the cone) off, and in doing so he pulls the bandage down and exposes the sore bit. I've tried bandaging him and leaving the cone off which he tolerated for two days, now he just rips the bandage off as soon as I put it on. I have been putting this manuka honey derived wound healing stuff under the bandage. We've tried putting a sock on his foot over the bandage, he just keeps licking it Any suggestions on what I can do? he still licks his foot constantly and it will just get inflamed again if he doesn't stop, but he won't leave a bandage alone and the cone doesn't work because he makes his foot worse by scratching it on the cone/collar And just so everyone feels really sorry for him, here is my boy in his 'cone of shame' after we came home from the vet
  9. One has to wonder what the consequences would have been for the passing dog if the tethered dog had got free. Unless the prongs were sharpened, I can't comprehend how a prong collar could inflict that kind of damage. Me neither, I always have a flat collar sitting lower on the neck when I use my prong so if I do need to tie her up I switch the lead to the other collar
  10. That is the biggest load of BS I have ever read. It is not research, merely a one sided argument
  11. How strong are the go dog dragon toys? Lexi loves plush toys, but they never last long with the other two terrors around
  12. Tim please look here It is the puppy listing for Staffords for sale on DOL, also please do research on the breed (especially if you're after a blue) look into the skin problems associated with that colour. If a breeder is wanting to charge more for any specific colour then run a mile, no colour is worth more than others
  13. Oops, I misunderstood and thought you meant ouside of your yard on walks! Oh, yes today she grabbed one on a walk, but usually its at home
  14. Thanks....and ditto to Noisy's question Does anyone know what would suddenly change the behaviour like that though? I had assumed if a dog didn't do it as a pup and nothing had changed in their life then they wouldn't suddenly pick up a behaviour like this (she was doing it before we moved)
  15. If cats did turds that big in my yard I'm pretty sure they would be lying dead only a few feet from it....actually no wait....a cat wouldn't have time to pause and do a turd with three dogs there lol
  16. Any ideas why a dog would quite suddenly start eating faeces? Lexi my almost three year old Golden has never shown any interest in eating poo...then all of a sudden she will gobble one down right in front of us and we have no idea why. We aren't sure who's poo she is actually eating but they're all on the same diet, and they're not fresh when she gets them (although they're less than a day old). Today we were out for a walk and she went to grab one on the nature strip but I caught her before she picked it up
  17. As opposed to non living human? Very scary, my first thought was a mans voice too It could be a zombie. I stand corrected

  19. I have a dog with a broken dew claw, it has been infected and he keeps licking the area making it really irritated...do you think manuka honey would help it? (obviously under a bandage)
  20. Looks like Jackson is going to the vet again, he won't leave it alone and keeps catching it on his cone when he tries to get to it while ita on, we've tried keeping it wrapped but he continues to lick it and it gets sore around the bandage
  21. What were you saying about athletic DiscoDobe? My girl tops out at about 25kg...she is far from little though
  22. This picture shows the range of colours in Goldens, obviously the dogs on either end aren't goldens My favourite colour is the guy looking at the camera
