  1. "Hey Mum, you promised us warmth and sunshine once we moved to Oz!" The 2 Cresties have taken to duvet burrowing as it's been cold and rainy all day
  2. awww he's gorgeous qbf - thanks for the pics He looks very mischievous though
  3. Stanley looks a real sweetie :D More pics please :p My two have gone into hibernation mode, can't see them for duvets Thanks for the recommendations for Kathy Kopellis McLeod for Louis - I have given her a ring and spoken to an assistant so will hopefully get some help for us both soon :D Thanks also to whoever recommended Maria at Click go the Shears, I took Daisy to her on Tuesday and she did a lovely job on her. Freshly clipped Daisy Once she had clipped her and washed her she noticed lots of tiny little bites round her neck area and said it may be sand flies Along with most of the wildlife over here, these are new to me, so is there anything I can use to deter them from biting her. We've been round Lake Monger a couple of times, so Maria thought she may have got bitten there?
  4. Time to get a new bf They are such lovely little poppets
  5. Thanks J, unfortunately this is 'normal' behaviour for him thanks for another recommendation too and don't tempt me with puppies, that's very bad Anyway I'm up to my 2 dog limit for Perth
  6. Thanks ST Cheers GR The beds came from Zoo Products in Claremont, the red 'camping' bed was a bargain - $19 It comes in lime green too ;) From all the recommendations it sounds like Kathy will be getting a phone call from me very soon
  7. In the UK I was feeding Orijen to my cat (dogs are raw fed) but it's not sold over here due to problems with irradiation a few years back. Anyway I emailed an online retailer recently when looking for a suitable food for her and got this reply..... Due to the Orijen issue a few years back here in Australia, no cat food is now allowed to be irradiated upon entry into Australia. The government delivered a ban on the irradiation of cat food in May 2009. I can assure you that no pet food we stock has been irradiated upon entry into Australia. I would assume this ban also applies to dog food I am going to try her on Ziwipeak, as although it's not Australian it's pretty close and the ingredients look brilliant for a 'dried' food http://www.ziwipeak.com/nzl/cuisinefamily.shtml
  8. I've tried Ruff Wear boots in the past for Daisy to help with a foot chewing issue, they were fine around the house but didn't stay on great outside. I think with a larger dog though they would be great as they were very well made and seemed very tough. Daisy doesn't have much of an 'ankle' so they slid down too easily, but should be fine for a bigger pawed dog
  9. Thanks Rommi n Lewis, I'll look her up I'm in Mount Lawley at the moment but am happy to travel for a good recommendation
  10. Ok, thanks Corvus I've had a quick skim through and it looks like sensible stuff, I'll go and have a proper read of it in a bit . The trouble is being new to the area I don't have any 'willing volunteers' yet to act as decoys
  11. Pink The same 'bunch' of flowers but I played with the scene settings on my Lumix and this came from the 'pin hole' setting, I liked the dusky quality it produced
  12. Happy , relaxed dogs I love the one of Envy, so cute
  13. So sorry Vaders Mum - such sad news and such a sad accident ;) Well the dogs have settled in nicely and even little Indy has quietened down, all it took was another $60 bed to shut her up They are enjoying getting some sun on their backs after 30 days of gloom and have been for some nice park walks, including round Lake Monger which was lovely We went for a beach walk yesterday on the North Fremantle dog beach and Louis was a little terror! (see here - http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=202474) so if anyone can recommend a good basic training course I could take Louis to, or maybe a behaviourist in the Perth area that would be great Daisy is off to the groomers tomorrow, so will no longer look like a cuddly teddy bear - for a few weeks at least Catching some rays And spot the Crestie - it's chilly in this house
  14. just one word..... eeeeuuugggghhhhhh
  15. I'm after some advice and help for myself and Louis, I suspect fear/lead aggression, but am happy to be corrected. A bit of background info..... I've had Louis for about a year now, previous to that he had been in a foster home for a few months after being handed over (along with two other cresties) to the rescue group. His age is unknown - thought to be around 5. It's believed he spent his early years in a crate and certainly not walked or socialised. Back in the UK we lived in the middle of no-where, walks out with the dogs were either in empty forests or deserted beaches, so didn't really come across many other dogs, just my pack of four who got on fine together. I had a group of friends with spaniels, who we would meet up with and go for forest walks, usually about 15 dogs in total all off leash, and Louis was fine on these walks, rummaging around with the spaniels in the undergrowth. I also took him with me on a 'gundog' weekend that I took my cocker to, and he was fine with the dogs there. Any form of dog training/behaviourist was very thin on the ground where we lived, but I took Louis to some basic obedience classes and he did ok with the other dogs there when on lead. When let off lead he was ok but when they came bounding up to him he would 'rush' at them for a couple of time until he settled down and then would be ok. His problem is when we are on the beach and dogs are coming in the opposite direction, I put him on the lead as I know if the dogs comes running up to him he will rush in first with a nip - which is not acceptable, and also I don't know how the 'strange' dog will react to his behaviour. However, when he is on the lead all he wants to do is to get to the free running dog and 'get in first' before it can do anything to him. He turns into a hyper little monster! He came out of quarantine on thursday, and we've been for a couple of park walks and he's been ok with dogs coming towards him on the path.....a bit anxious, but not too bad. Yesterday we went to the dog beach and he was a nightmare! Any time a dog came toward us I had to keep him close to me and steer him away from the other dog otherwise they'd be getting a nip. I'm planning on getting him to some obedience classes soon, but was looking for advice on how to deal with this behaviour. He's not a vicious dog, he's a poorly socialised, scared dog. He doesn't go in looking for a fight, he tries to get in with one nip and then runs off. But I want him to be able to relax on walks when on lead, and for him not to be constantly looking for the next dog that is going to 'kill him' in his eyes. I have tried diverting his attention with treats but he's not interested in them in this situation. I'm hoping the more I get him out to places like dog beaches, the more he will get used to it and calm down, but any advice on how to help deal with his behaviour would be very much appreciated Thanks in advance Tanya
  16. Yay they're home ;) Although I now want to kill my Siamese as she is pacing around howling in that special way that only siamese cats can She won't let me cuddle her so I'll just have to let her settle down - poor poppet is probably totally confused. The dogs are the complete opposite - they've had a bite to eat and have retired to the sofa to enjoy the comfort of soft furnishings again Louis Daisy and Indy the noisy one I will bath the dogs soon as they both smell after being in kennels, they'll enjoy sitting out in the sun to dry off afterwards RubyStar - what is the ET? Ptolomy - couldn't see Strauss as they brought the dogs out to me, but just to reassure you a bit, it was a lot quieter out of visiting hours
  17. I had a greyhound, spaniel and 2 cresties and 3 cats......the 3 cats ruled the roost!
  18. My dog groomers' mare had the most beautiful filly last year Such unusual patterning
  19. My spaniel loved 'helping' me by digging the garden too......! and a very rare picture of a muddy Daisy - she usually avoids mess at all costs but somehow ended up in a huge muddy puddle in the forest back in Scotland and Louis in his 'mud-suit' We had orange mud too TangerineDream
  20. awwww mirawee new born foals are just gorgeous, they have the softest muzzles in the world
  21. Happy Birthday Amy Great news Wazzat, you'll have to put a link up if it goes online too ONE MORE SLEEP My babies come home tomorrow I went to the council offices today and got their little yellow tags, so they are all street legal now as well Ptolomy - Strauss looked just fine again yesterday ;)
