You’d have to be crazy to support an anonymous group running a political party in my opinion. Who is behind it? Who would you be supporting? When they say ‘your right to breed’ are they meaning the rights of anyone who wants to breed including Joe Bloggs up the road who thinks his little fluffy will make a good match for the Kelpie cross next door? It’s a registered company, limited by shares, which is based in Langwarrin Vic. Who are the Directors who own those shares? Can’t see much else about it at this point.

Good on you for helping a dog which sounds like it obviously needed help. Leaving a nugget would not be related to her desexing status I wouldn’t think. Maybe someone else has a better idea but I can’t think of anything that would link to this. I’d be inclined to think it was coincidental. If you’re concerned though, check with your vet.

Me too. I call Obi my beautiful boy and Daisy my dipsy girl, but they’re felines at the end of the day. Don’t get me wrong, I shower them with affection, I talk to them, I tell them I love them - but I don’t think of them as my children. They’re two very much loved, very spoilt cats that I adore.

Sorry - but there’s the issue right there. He’s a dog and he doesn’t think like a human. He doesn’t even know what a ‘mother’ is in such a context. As a newborn he relied on instinct, as his mother did. She didn’t look at the litter and think ‘look at my beautiful babies’ anymore than he is looking at you as his mother. The language we’ve created allows people to place dogs in a human context. There are people who use these terms and don’t anthropomorphise but the majority do as you just did. Most will not have any problems thinking this way and no harm is done, but there will be those who take it to extremes and overall it erodes the understanding that these are canines - a totally different species to a human.

Good review T and on point. Changes to legislation, and any newly introduced legislation, will have consequences. It also adds to, not alleviates, red tape in many instances. Be careful what you wish for. Any change needs to be thoroughly considered. I’ve not seen much over the last 20 years that achieves the aims everyone wants.

That’s what walking pugs was like - except they just propped and you had to carry them.

As with you LG, I hate seeing dogs forced to walk purely for exercise. People forget that a dog’s primary sense of being in this world is very much tied to smells. They communicate this way, and they learn and explore this way. Mine all wandered as they chose and they set the pace. I also hate seeing dogs trying to quickly urinate while an idiot owner doesn’t even realise and and drags them off mid wee. I think I’m excellent at recognising that dogs are dogs and cats are cats - and not little humans in fur suits. Sadly, I think while we continue to use language such as ‘part of the family’, and ‘fur kids’ and people think of themselves as leaders of their dog’s pack, we will see a decline in real understanding of companion animals.

What a horrible experience for you all. Just so unnecessary. If her dog was on a leash all would have been ok. Glad to hear this little cutie is going to a new home of her very own.

I haven’t seen or heard of a dog, in NSW, with distemper since I was a child. Does it still exist?

Oh wow. What really stood out for me was the obvious evidence of there being a prior concern with the dogs indicated by the sign clearly saying not to knock at the door, but to text them. Incredibly irresponsible of them to then let a dog sitter visit alone via the front door!

As above. You should also ensure you provide copies of anything showing the sale to you. This might include a receipt and or text or email exchanges. It is often wrongly assumed a microchip determines ownership of a dog or cat. It is one of many things taken into account but it is not the only evidence considered. Hopefully the dog isn’t stolen and it’s previous owners are just irresponsible. Perhaps they never bothered ensuring it was chipped and transferred to them when they acquired the dog initially. The breed doesn’t really matter. A cross breed is a cross breed. If it was important I’d assume you would have purchased a pedigreed dog in the first place. Just out of interest, when I was a vet nurse I saw all manner of breeds claimed on vacc certs. I would take the certificate breed claim with a grain of salt.

Yep, and when there is sufficient resources to take action, the laws are too weak to prosecute effectively. Think about that in context of the Bill. I’m not saying I support or don’t support the Bill but it’s a complex situation that needs careful consideration.

A vet visit is needed, definitely. Sometimes you can get an inside idea of what it might be depending on where the skin issue is. If it’s: * face and muzzle - demodectic mange * abdomen or feet - contact allergy * on the back near the tail - flea allergy * general body and hot spots - food allergy The above is a guide only based on my experience after running a rescue. It’s not a full list and it shouldn’t replace professional advice.

Until now I’d never heard of a bobtail Doberman and I’m in the category of ‘a passing knowledge’ of most breeds. It’s a better option than cutting the tails off puppies, that’s for sure. FCR4 - why so aggressive? I personally do not think that bobtails in dobermans is common knowledge either. So what if someone gets it wrong. In Rebanne’s defence she stated ‘as far as I know’ ie it’s her own personal knowledge and opinion.

Read the Bill first would be my advice. You’re usually a very pragmatic thinker so I think you’d do good in this kind of arena. The basics should be a detailed understanding of what the Bill is and it’s real impact, and how a Bill progresses through Parliament.

I wouldn’t support them personally. I’d prefer a party that actually refers to detail of the Bill and what it specially opposes, instead of making sweeping links and claims to international and US based organisations.
