  1. I would've loved to see that! My old Maltese, Kayleigh, used to sleep in the bed with us at night. She normally sleeps at our feet but finds her way under the covers some time throughout the night. One night the OH and I were staying up late talking, and we realized that Kayleigh wasn't by our feet anymore. I felt something wet licking my ear and the sneaky puppy had somehow managed to belly crawl all the way from the foot of the bed to lie horizontally on the pillow above our heads without us noticing!
  2. He will grow out of it - just a lot of patience is needed until then! I second the suggestion of tiring him out before bed time. I used to do that and ended up tiring myself out a lot more so the both of us slept like logs.
  3. I was just going to add how for me it's always the SWFs with small dog syndrome which used to annoy my dog. I read somewhere that picking them up in situation like this may reinforce small dog sydrome? I used to do it out of instinct, just in case the other dog tried something funny, but someone once told me not to. I think the same person may have told me that when an SWF starts barking at another dog and the other dog comes running up, to not pick them up as well because it reinforces that too? Not quite sure how true this is, but thought I'd ask anyway!
  4. ^ This. It's happened to me before too, and I guess my first instinct was to get the dog off with my foot, except I guess with the adrenaline rush I may have possibly kicked the dog off a little harder than I would've expected myself capable of No damage done though but this time, the shock of the kick snapped the other dog out of it. It's dangerous though, and I would carry an umbrella the next time. Please don't blame yourself as it's not your fault *hugs* Give Morrison lots of cuddles and hugs from us!
  5. He could be having a little sulk My cats do it to me when I come home from being overseas for months at a time, but it only lasts a day at most, and don't get me started on my dog who absolutely refuses to acknowledge my existence! Watch him and if he seems to be physically fine, I'd give it a few hours or a day.
  6. I could NEVER do that, I'd be way too paranoid. I do let my doggies look out the window but the windows are always shut, I don't know, I'm just too paranoid that something's gonna get caught somewhere or what not!
  7. I had a friend's SWF living with me for the weekend while she was in Sydney, and I knew this dog had what I call "small dog syndrome" and was quite DA from lack of socializing. I was walking her on-lead when she starts barking at a Schnauzer wandering off-lead with its owner and the Schnauzer comes up and starts growling and raising its hackles, and they start to go at it! I was dragging the poor SWF almost in the air with her harness, at the same time trying to get the Schnauzer off with my foot - it was chaos! I walked her around the edge of the park away from any other animals for the rest of the weekend. I can't imagine if it was a larger dog breed!
  8. Oh she's so beautiful! I'd have her in a heart beat if I had more space.
  9. I make them walk beside me I had a foster dog who used to walk behind me and he ended up trodding on my slippers or bumping into me from the back resulting in the both of us taking an occasional tumble here and there.
  10. I would expect him to feel hot somewhere else later tonight or tomorrow. I normally have a glass of milk with my hot curries, or yoghurt, or just plain rice even.
  11. I wouldn't want to agitate the neighbour too much. Not to scare you or anything, but he sounds like a nutter who may take to throwing poisoned food over your fence just to "win"
  12. Totally unrelated but I was watching a game of soccer in the park among a bunch of teens, and the next thing I knew, two dachshunds ran onto the pitch and started chasing the ball as well trying to get in on the action I'm not sure what breed Lilli is, but here's an article about border collies and herding: http://www.gforcebordercollies.com/bordercolliesandkids.html
  13. Oh, I have a weak spot for greyhounds! Greyhounds are pretty easy to toilet train as they're generally very clean, and can hold it in as they wouldn't want to dirty their "kennel" or nearby surroundings. I used to take my foster out 4-5 times a day and she immediately got the hang of it and never once toileted indoors -- she came with her file saying she's not house trained as well
  14. I love when they hit around the 7-9 month age when they're slowly growing out of puppyhood and they've got some training down - they make even greater company! I think people give up puppies at that age because they're normally untrained and hard to handle by that time! I've met with a family who gave away their puppy because it wasn't house-trained ... well of course it wasn't if you didn't put any effort at all into showing him where to toilet! I've toilet-trained a 6 year old dog before within a couple of weeks, it just takes a LOT of patience and time! Aww, I miss having a puppy now! ;)
  15. Oh what a gorgeous bulldog! It's been my dream to one day own one, but definitely not within the next 5 years at least. I'm so jealous! ;)
  16. I had a desexed male dog which used to cock his leg too, but I think it was just at places where he could smell another dog had been there, other wise he just peed like normal
  17. He's absolutely gorgeous!! And how big he's grown!
  18. My maltese once somehow managed to find one of those paper bottles/cans of Cadbury hot chocolate powder, took the top off and wolfed down the lot!!! A lot of panicking ensued and she did feel sick for a day or two, but she survived. That dog had a huge chocolate craving and making sure everything chocolate was stored away was a nightmare She used to be able to sniff chocolate out from plastic bags when we came back from grocery shopping and were unpacking, bite a hole through it and drag the chocolate out even. Nightmare!
  19. Wow, Hermes! Fancy (and absolutely gorgeous) dog!
  20. I honestly didn't feel bad at all when I had my female dog desexed :X I felt bad for putting her an operation but she bounced back fine and was quite happy to get some extra cuddles when she got home!
  21. The 'big un's' are powering along, 6 months old last week. Charlotte and Ruger haven't been put up for adoption yet. I always planned to keep them till 5-6 months as it was thought their father could be a CAO in which case their rehoming needs would be quite different to the average large Xbreed boof. I hoped I would see some temperament or behavioral differences to confirm it but so far they are just lovely natured big boofa's. Being so big I also wanted to ensure they got the correct diet for a giant breed and delay desexing as long as I could. They are just divine dogs, so lovely to have around. They have continued to grow beautifully at 1.5kg- 2kg per week. Last weigh in at approx 5 1/2mths they were 35kg & 36kg. There is something very special about Ruger, for a 6mth old pup he is eerily in tune with whats going on around him. He is incredible with puppies, will play with them for ages so very gently, he is polite and respectful with new dogs coming in and so well behaved I can take him anywhere. He always draws people in, will sit calmly for a 2yr old to pat him and lie on an old lady's cold feet at football! Made her day lol Since Sunday he has been helping a new foster called Harold who is terrified of people, I cant get near him. Ruger stayed with him outside in the cold, sat about 4 meters away and today Harold is following Ruger around Even into the house Until he see's or hears a person and then he's out again but its a good start. I dont want to go all spiritual but I feel Ruger has come to me for a purpose. Whether its just to help me with the fosters and promoting Rescue or maybe to become at Pets as Therapy dog for my local community?? I don't know ;) But boy do I love him and his sister, perfect pooches! He sounds like such a lovely boy, a very good looking one at that too!
