I agree, come into the Spitz thread. There are a few Jap Spitz owners in there and they'll be able to give you heaps of help. -

Yep, I signed up for the Eukanuba. Not sure if I did it under Akira or Halo though. We don't feed it, but it'll be great for training treats because Akira is more than happy to work for kibble, and hopefully Halo will be too. -

Congrats! Superb breeder you have there Do you know which girl is yours yet? Guess if you're getting a show bitch then of course you won't know yet! No not yet. We'll find out in January. And I agree, our breeder is wonderful. Pandii, I suppose it just depends on personal experience. We didn't do it with Akira and she's perfectly fine with all dogs and not aggressive at all. We do obedience and agility with her. We introduced her to adult dogs that had solid temperaments and that's my preference because in my area it's all -oodles with owners who think it's cute that their puppy is humping someone elses and upsetting their dog. I'm not saying that no one should do puppy preschool, just that we didn't and will continue not to because I don't feel it's good for a dog in my area. -
So your boss brings the puppy into work? I'm just wondering because they don't like to let full time workers puppy raise from what I've read! They appear to be in desperate need of puppy raisers but quite a lot of people are taken out of the running due to other circumstances. Which is fair enough, but I'd like the allowances to arrange things to make it work Yep, Paddy spends the entire day with us. I think it might be different, though, because they own the business and so can make the rules, and he goes everywhere with them. Does akira get to come to work too? That would be great if they could both go to work and have some playtime together! Tho maybe not so good for the guide dogs training lol. Guide Dogs generally specify that the dog can't be left for more than 2-4 hrs (depending on the organisation/state). It is a bit of a shame for dedicated people who work but could still raise a well adjusted, well socialised dog. Maybe if you already have one very well trained dog, they might be willing to give you a go? I know Mason, Ruby and Millie would all persuade any guide dog org to let you puppy raise!!! Akira gets to go on Fridays. She and Paddy get a bit silly so normally get to play for a little bit before getting separated. Akira sits in my office and Paddy gets to roam the building.

We have one with a loop and you slide the seatbelt through the loop.

My boss is onto her second puppy. The first was a black lab that was diagnosed with HD and didn't make it. The second is also a black lab, and will be going back soon.

I'm interested in this one too.

I believe macadamia nuts only affect SOME dogs. Could be wrong though. And even humans shouldn't have too much artificial sweetner, it breaks down to formaldehyde and formic acid both of which can be dangerous. I have a pretty bad food intollerance to it.

Xmas Present For Your Dogs!
whiskedaway replied to KnucklesDutchnUs's topic in General Dog Discussion
I keep thinking I should set up a webcam to see what Akira's up to and then link into it at work. No clue where I'd put it though. -
Miss Squish's boy Ruger has told Akira off a couple of times at DOL meets. He is one of the few dogs that she will submit to every time.

The puppy we're getting in January is from a reputable breeder and already it's been a completely different experience to Akira. We've had so much support already and I know that will continue for her entire life. We can't even get in contact with Akira's "breeder" because he won't answer his phone or reply to messages. We also know that her parents have had every vet check and test they need. While Akira's extremely healthy and I assume her grandparents were health tested (her parents are both limited register Sibes) I worry a little that she won't be healthy when she's older. The only bad side of a reputable breeder is the wait!

Akira wears a harness. She hates having it put on, but the instant I'm holding her paw in my hand, she stops moving and lets me put it on. When we get to the car, I tell her to wait when I open the door and protect the seat from her fur with a towel/blanket, and then I tell her to get up. She jumps up, sits down straight away and I strap her in. She gets strapped in even if we're just going for a short trip around the corner. My OH wants a station wagon since he started going to shows/obedience and saw the crates that people have set up in their cars. He's become such a dog person, and he reckons that will be the best way for them to travel in the future.

You can get a car restraint which attaches to the d-ring on the harness: http://www.worldforpets.com.au/products/pr...ail.asp?ID=3007 (also available from Big W) or http://waggle.com.au/petbuckle-b18/kwik-connect-tether-p272 I prefer the petbuckle attachment as it won't accidently come undone, nor can the dog learn to release it himself I should get one of those, Akira has learnt how to release the seatbelt, though she only does it if she gets super excited.

We won't be doing puppy preschool. We didn't do it with Akira, so we won't do it with Halo either. She'll be doing show training and when she's got a solid stand I'll probably take her to do some basic obedience. -
Is Canned Food Bad For Dogs Teeth?
whiskedaway replied to Sasha (Alexander)'s topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have fed Hills I/D cans to Darcy when he was recovering from gastro. It certainly is a less offensive than other canned food I've seen (and smelt). We fed Hills too. It wasn't too bad smell wise. -

After keeping it quiet for MONTHS I can now say that we are waiting for a Finnish Lapphund show puppy from Taigakoira. We'll be getting her at the end of January and she'll be two weeks old on Friday. -
Yep, lappie lookalike. That's Snik and my over-the-top Sibe. Pretty sure she thinks she's a lappie, though.
-
I agree! That's such a gorgeous photo.

Gorgeous photos! Isn't it funny how every photo of Akira has her in the damn clam pool?

The only time we've ever given canned food is when our dog had an upset stomach and the vet recommended it. Knowing what I know now, I'd prefer to cook up chicken and rice in that situation rather than canned food. -

The only photo I got was of Akira and Ella. I never bothered to get my camera out. Akira is wet and dirty ane Ella looks beautiful. -
My sibe does it too if you whistle at her (but only if she's sitting quietly, if there's food around she won't even look at you )

Scott said to me "there is no way that dog is scared of men" with the way she was more than happy to get lots of pats from him. She's definitely getting there! Glad Pele likes her toys, Bully. I love mine too! I used my treat pouch for the first time on our morning walk and it was so handy because normally I'd be carrying my keys and my phone and instead I had a place to put them this morning. It's going to be PERFECT for obedience and agility.
