  1. I take it no one has any other ideas. Thanks for reading anyway. We will keep trying with her until we can get a professional. Wish us luck!
  2. I have a 3 year old Bull Arab who we have been working with for over 12 months to try to settle her while we are at work. My partner didn't work for the first two years of her life and then he went back. This big change in her life triggered her anxiety. We have everything but a behaviourist. Every single tool on the market from collars to muzzles to training and doggy day care. The problem is, there is no way I can afford someone until after Christmas. I was wondering if anyone had any other tips until we are in a position to get a professional? We have had notes in the letterbox and a complaint from the council. Since then we really have tried and I am at my wits end. I feel bad leaving her as it is, and her anxiety is giving me anxiety! She is due for a 6 month checkup on her cruiciate ligimate surgery soon, so I will be talking to the vet again. I would like to add another dog to the house, but I don't know if its a good idea until this is sorted. She has been left alone with my sister in laws dog, outside, and she didn't make a sound all night. We checked with all the neighbours. Any tips or help at all is appreciated.
  3. We only have the one at the moment (Im working on it) and she is a three year old desexed bull arab. But we look after my sister in laws doberman (three, entire) and father in laws SBT (eight, entire) sometimes, and vice versa. They all just love each other to bits, and will play and lick each others faces and swim and play and have a nap and play together all day. My mother has an elderly rescue chi that she has had for a long time, we are unsure how old he really is but estimate that he is about 14, he tolerates Stella as she is so big compared to him. If she lays down on the floor, he will play with her. She tries so hard with him, its almost comical and sad at the same time. She will smile and fawn, nudge him, lick him, beg, smile. LOL. I would love to adopt a rescue greyhound, I think one would fit in just nicely around here! ETA: Stella has run of the house day and night, unless we are at work and she is outside. She blew her chance of staying inside with the huge damage bill that she owes us!
  4. I always try to pick my times to go to the park when it is quiet, normally during the day. The weekends and late afternoons are really busy, so we don't go then. I take mine there because she gets alot of enjoyment out of it. She loves it and I am not going to take that away from her. I am more than aware that alot of dogs that go can be problem dogs. People need to take responsibility for their own dogs. That is the problem, they don't! I wasn't complaining about the dog park, just telling what happened to be one incident. I rarely have a problem because we go when its quieter. Also, Stella normally sticks to the same dogs that go to our park, so I know she is ok with them. They have a wonderful time together. I hope the original poster can forgive us all for hijacking his post and I hope that you got the advice you needed.
  5. When I was growing up, we had a blue heeler x dingo that my mother rescued from the pound. We used to live down the road from the local take away chicken shop. He got out one day, and was gone for ages. When he eventually came back, the smell that was coming off him was rank. We were all dry-retching. He had gone down behind the chicken shop where they emptied out the oils from the bottom of the roaster. He had a wonderful time digging through the skip eating off chicken and rolling and licking up the rank oil and fat. He threw it all up not long after my dad hosed him down. Ew My current dog, Stella, has cost us at least $5000 damage from her eating things. The list is too long but includes new mobile phones, reverse cycle air con remotes and books (into confetti).
  6. This is one of the biggest issues in our local dog park. There is a woman with two male staffies, both entire, that is there all the time. These two dogs gang up and try to dominate every other dog there. One day, I was keeping an eye on my sister in laws doberman that we were looking after, when they grabbed my bull arab. She was caught in the middle of these two male dogs. The behaviour was frightening. One would hold the muzzle while the other would try to get on. Stella really hates it as it is, but this was something else. I lost my mind as Stella was obviously very distressed, while this woman was sitting with this group of people ages away and totally oblivious to what was happening. I was so mad, I went over and gave her a mouthful and told her that is is unacceptable aggressive behaviour and they should not be here. Her response? They are alright, they just want to play. .......What? I just had to walk away before I hit her. We leave straight away if we see her now, alot of other people do too. Its like a mass walk out. But, that been said, maybe yours is just excited. This is just another sad story of an idiot, not ignorance. It is really good that you are asking for help, and this forum can be a great source of information and support. Sorry for the long post, it wasn't meant to be.
  7. Mine is what the other half calls me on a very regular basis. So it was easy to pick, for me!
  8. This is just wonderful! Congratulations, this truly brightened my day. What a delightful ending. Who doesn't enjoy such squishy babies! :D
  9. Thank you everyone. We just want to do everything we can to make sure the recovery is a success. I might talk to the people at Morayfield too, they might know someone also. Thanks again, and wish us luck with our excitable, energetic doggy
  10. Our dog is having her cruiciate ligament repaired with the De Angelis procedure next week, and we were wondering if anyone on here would know of a good physiotherapist to take her to afterwards? Can't seem to find any local online. There is a doggy hydrotherapy at Morayfield and will probably take her there, but still would like to maybe speak with a physiotherapist. Thank you in advance for info!
  11. I like your way of thinking! What a shame if the foster fails. It would truly be awful. :D No, he already has said that me fostering is a bad idea, as I wouldn't give any of them away! And he is probably right. Ok, totally right!
  12. Beautiful video! Im super keen to get a greyhound to add to our fur-family. Just need to convince the other half its a great idea! And I shall call him Noodles!
  13. Stella means "star". And she definitely thinks that she is! But I have always loved the name, but couldn't wait for a girl skin-kid. Glad that I didn't, because I swear every second child under 10 I meet is called Stella.
  14. Im sitting here with tears streaming down my face, but no words come to mind. You and your family will be in my thoughts and I will send lots of love your way. for you all. Please take care.
  15. I have seen some on Etsy. I will be buying off there soon, from a lady in the states. www.etsy.com
  16. Why, oh why did I Google them! I don't know about quality or anything, but they have beautiful products. Sorry, not much help, but they look great!
  17. Yes, I also have one. But I cannot resist, she is so cuddable! ETA: She is now roughly twice as big now. She was only young there.
  18. Stella gets stella-bella, biggie, flea-bus, horsey, hoover, leggy, plus more im sure.
  19. No. Just no. Too many things can go wrong.
  20. I would never try to pat another dog while its in a car. My Stella is protective of the car, and while I don't think she would bite, she does woof a bit if anyone approaches the car. Maybe that lady wasn't very dog savvy. I have had people just come up and pat her, and I have said in the past that they should always ask first as she could be aggressive. She isn't at all, and loves kids especially, but as I tell them, you never know. Some people just don't know, I suppose.
  21. Stella's favourite TV show at the moment is The Zoo. She also likes RSPCA animal rescue.
  22. I made the bed not 10 mins earlier DO NOT WANT! Have posted this before, but its one of my favourites!
  23. Just an idea for you guys that meet up, on the northside there is a fenced dog park with a river running along the back that they can swim in at petrie. its in the sweeney reserve. its stella's favourite place in the whole world. its quite a good size for a dog park. i prefer it to kroll gardens in redcliffe. unfortunately, i think stella just did her cruciate ligamate. going to vet tomorrow so might be a while before we go there again
  24. OOhhh. My fav Christmas shot of Stella. Dont think she was impressed! ETA: She looks like a mouse in this one!
