  1. I'm so sorry VM. It's so heartbreaking to lose a beloved dog. for you. Godspeed Tibor
  2. My Cavalier had abdominal surgery at 16 months old to remove some loquat stones that caused an obstruction in her bowel. She is now 9 1/2yo and I can clearly feel the scar tissue and sutures under the skin. This has caused her no problems and she's never shown any sign of being aware of it.
  3. That's an excellent question. For those of us who live alone this is an issue, especially we who are elderly. Who is your next of kin who would be notified if you were in an accident? That person should be made aware you have dogs and should know your wishes about what should happen to the dogs if you are indisposed. I have lung disease and had a flare up last week. On Thursday my doctor said she needed to send me to hospital. As I live alone and have no one to care for my dogs I said hospital is not an option for me because of my dogs. (I am recovering without a hospital admission). My next of kin have been notified of my wishes regarding the dogs if anything were to happen to me but they're not dog people and wouldn't care for my dogs. I have notified my next of kin should anything happen to me my elderly dogs with health problems are to be taken a specific vet at my local practice to be put to sleep. My vet is aware of my wishes. My dogs are not rehomeable at their age with their health problems.
  4. Yet again we see how too much power breeds corruption. What a hero that dumb cop is. His off-siders are no better.
  5. Mine smells if I reuse the bag next time I vacuum. I have a Miele cat and dog and change the bag after each vacuum. I have two Cavaliers that shed their long hair like crazy so the bag is always half full when I finish vacuuming. I also have a stick vacuum cleaner and that's even worse for dog smell and it's bagless. Strangely the dogs don't smell doggy. Even the soft mats in their crates don't smell doggy.

Sorry Huski and please also pass on my condolences to your Nana.
  7. I would be suspicious of a breeder who did not interrogate me if I wanted one of their pups. In fact I would be happy for the breeder or one of their trusted friends arranged to do a house check before agreeing to sell a pup to me. When I was rescuing a particular large breed of dog I always did a house check as well as doing some careful questioning before allowing one of my rescues to be rehomed. I rescued only one dog at a time and only over a three year period. I didn't rehome many dogs but the people who took my rescue dogs kept in touch with me for the rest of their dog's life. One of them has become a good friend over the years. The only person who did disappoint me was a member of my immediate family. He loves his dog but I guess he has a different way of caring for a dog to my way.
  8. The only way to decide which insurer suits you is to research the various insurers and read their PDS carefully.
  9. Use unscented baby wipes to clean your male dog's belly hair. It will keep him clean and he won't smell of urine. I give my boy's belly and front legs a good wipe over with baby wipes each night, just in case he has misfired. If your dog is cocking his leg in inappropriate places it's better if you leave him at home when you visit friends until you train him out of this behaviour. If you catch him cocking his leg inside give him a stern verbal correction. I doubt there's any way you can avoid the red lipstick if your male is that way inclined. My male doesn't put his out on show. He's now almost 11yo and I've never seen it.
  10. I leave the aircon on for the dogs on hot days and the central heating on for them on cold days.
  11. He sounds like a trigger happy cop who probably shouldn't be carrying a gun. Of course a dog will bark when a stranger comes onto their property. The dog owners should not have had their dog in the front yard.
  12. It's a waste of time trying to reason with people like this woman. Instead of trying to convince her to go to her car, one of the concerned people should have immediately called the police. When she decided to return to her car she'd find the police in attendance and one of her car windows broken. The police would notify the RSPCA so she'd also have to answer to them. Had all this happened she might have learned something. As it is she didn't learn a thing or she wouldn't put up a stupid argument about the car being partly in the shade. She'll keep leaving her dog in the car because self centred people don't give any thought about how their actions affect others (or her dog). These people need to suffer the full consequences of their actions. Surely there's enough publicity about the danger of leaving children and dogs in cars but people like her think this only applies to others. I now call the police immediately if I see a dog or child left in a car in hot weather because I know from experience if you do find the car owner they'll be hostile and tell you to mind your own business. There's nothing to be gained by trying to reason with a fool.
  13. Huh. I have owned 7 entire male dogs (4 different breeds) and have never seen this happen unless they had a bitch to mate. When does it happen otherwise? I have also never had a make that humped anything other than a bitch. As for being unclean, I find males faster and easier to housetrain and the girls have always marked outside just as much as the boys. Some people have some really weird ideas. I find that puppy buyers tend to have heard that girls make the best pets but once the temperaments are explained they come round and are happy to take a boy as there are always way more boys available for sale than girls. You've never seen a male dog sitting with a little part of red penis poking out? Really? I wasn't referring to a full blown, humping erection. I've actually never seen a dog in that state though I doubt it would bother me unless I was in the company of the ladies church group. Though most of my dogs have been female I certainly don't think males are unclean. I've had a male GSD and my current male Cavalier. Both boys have been very clean dogs and I have never seen the red penis in either of them. My male Cav will sit on my lap if I'm sitting on the couch but I don't pick up my dogs. On the rare occasions I need to pick one of them up I place one hand on their bottom and the other hand holding the chest between the front legs so I don't quite figure how a penis would get in the way of picking up a male dog unless they're being picked up around the stomach/abdomen area.
  14. I agree it's probably a luxating patella. You need to take your girl to the vet.
  15. I think it's mainly because people who want a pet dog are embarrassed by male dog's erection. They don't want to see a penis on view as will often happen at inopportune times with male dogs. I have a male and a female Cavalier. Both are desexed. They're both nice dogs but my boy is better behaved, more affectionate and is with me at all times. The girl is more independent and is not as attached to me as my boy.
  16. What a beautiful story. It brings a tear to the eye. Mikael Lindnord and team went all out to help this very determined dog and Mikael has made a loyal friend for life.
  17. This is a very old thread that has now been resurrected.
  18. Sorry for double post. It seems IE10 no longer likes this forum, it's giving me grief.
  19. I wonder what happened to Jennifer, the rep, for Sunday Pet Foods. She hasn't been back to reply to any of our questions.
  20. After seeing the video of that little dog being stolen followed by the reporter going to PETA Headquarters, their setup looks rather plush. Clearly they're not short of a dollar so people are obviously donating plenty of money to this organisation of weirdos. If only people would investigate further exactly what their donations are contributing to. They obviously think PETA is about animal welfare. I read about PETA taking animals from pounds and shelters only to immediately euthanize them. Is their aim to kill as many pet animals as possible?
  21. For sure that must be a miscarriage of justice. I would appeal if I was the owner of that dog. The evil tentacles of Peta spread far and wide. I wonder was the prosecutor asked if he was a supporter or in any way affiliated with Peta.
  22. What a beautiful little boy. I'm so sorry for your loss. Rest In Peace Little Man
  23. I would also be interested to know how much this teeth cleaning costs. When one of my Cavaliers had a dental at the vets with a GA it cost more than $500. That did not include taking bloods but did include fluids and pain relief meds plus antibiotics.
