Removing The Aged Dog And Palliative Care Forums
cavNrott replied to Sheridan's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Specific to just being old?? I posted my boy's kidney failure thread in palliative care because that's exactly what it was, palliative care. I had already posted two other related threads in health with limited response. It's not about an expectation of replies, but a hope that someone somewhere can share some advice or thoughts. So if you're in a situation with a chronically ill dog and feeling desperate and getting nothing, of course you can feel disheartened. I do read the palliative care threads, same as I read rainbow bridge. My heart aches for people in those situations. I very rarely have any constructive advice other than to express my sympathy. But as Sheridan said, some threads get more support than others. I tend to post in threads where it looks like there is not as much support, but that's a personal choice I make because I really feel for those people. You chose to put your thread in a section that has little traffic, so you shouldn;t expect lots of replies, esp on a subject where there is limited number of people with experience. If you wanted an - oh dear, there there set of replies, utilise a forum that gets more traffic! It;s like saying you are disheartened not getting a lift hitch hiking, when you are stood in a country lane! That said, I do sympathise, as last year I went through a similar thing with a fairly young dog who had liver failure and we knew when the balance tipped, it was going to be a fast run to the end. That doesn;t mean I am the type of person who wants to go to threads just to give sympathy, it is a dog forum, so for me that is a given anyway, I, personally would prefer posts that have the help and not have people saying stuff that gets in the way of the useful stuff. I wonder if you realise how rude you sound? It's Kayla1's fault that she posted a thread about her dying dog in a forum that is supposed to be for people whose dogs are dying. The sheer insensitivity is gobsmacking. I agree, a very rude, inappropriate and insensitive reply. I have no experience to offer Kayla. My palliative care experience with a dog is cancer related so I didn't reply. I do however understand the heartbreak of palliatively caring for a dog. Kayla I wish you courage and wisdom on your sad journey with your dog. I've been there and now how heartbreaking it is. -
When Should I Worry About A Constipated Dog?
cavNrott replied to Inka3095's topic in General Dog Discussion
I would take her to the vet this morning, don't wait any longer. She probably needs an enema and if that doesn't work she'll need to be flushed out under anaesthetic. -
Not any more around here. There are a few vets I have visited recently for vaccinations.. All charged a consult fee of $65 plus vaccine (normal rate, not weekend or anything). Have not walked out for anything under $110 lately for a C5 Vaccination. The "physical" has in once instance, been fairly lacking.. in that all they did was listen to heart/lungs. But definitely shop around. I agree with Mystiqview. In the many years I've owned dogs I've never had a vet not charge their usual consult fee as well as the vaccination costs. My vets normal consult fee is $69.

My little Cavalier girl has been taking Enzyplex for the last 3 years with no obvious side effects. She tolerates it very well.

Agree absolutely. If the dog hasn't escaped for months and the owner has the dog safely at home I must be missing something becuase I don't see a problem. If the dog doesn't escape the RSPCA won't pick it up so why do the owners want to rehome the dog? It is their responsibility to keep their dog safely confined to their own property. Had they done that in the first place there wouldn't be an issue.
-
And this is the risk the OP and her partner are taking with their dog.
-
I agree absolutely. Is the OH prepared to get out of the car to tie the dog up before he drives through. He may consider it to be an unnecessary inconvenience. Rational adults do not put the life of their dog at risk the way the pair of you are doing. This 'rational discussion' should have taken place the first time the OH was too lazy to secure the dog before driving in. I'm surprised that keeping the dog safe has become an issue that needs serious discussion, to me it would be a priority.
-
No the dog is not using OH's poor memory as an advantage. You are attributing cunning to your dog that doesn't exist. Your OH is risking your dog's life. Surely any adult of normal intelligence is capable of restraining the dog so it doesn't get hit by a car, possibly your OH's car. If he will not go to the trouble of putting the dog inside or putting up a barrier gate/fence then he doesn't value the life of your dog. It is the responsibility of both of you to ensure the dog never has access to an open gate. There is no valid excuse for neglecting this. Even the best behaved dog is at risk of running though an open gate if the opportunity is available. It only has to happen once at the wrong time. As was suggested, if necessary put in an electric fence. Both of you need to be more responsible. How would you feel if the dog was run over simply because neither of you took precautions to prevent it. You list the things the OH won't do to keep the dog safe. What is he prepared to do? I would be laying down the law rather than sitting down to have a quiet chat about what he's willing to do. So far it appears he's not willing to do anything. If this was my dog the terms would be non negotiable. Either a barrier is put up to prevent the dog from getting out...or else.

That what I do too. A big plastic box I've covered with a towel. I've taped all round so it doesn't slip.

Yes, I have to echo what Mantis said. Are people completely stupid? Don't they do any research? -
Bison The Rottweiler And His Lymphoma Battle
cavNrott replied to DerRottweiler's topic in Palliative Care Forum
I am so very sorry to learn it was time for Bison to leave. Der R, you have done the breed proud by being such a wonderful custodian for the Rottweiler breed. Bison was a lucky boy to have shared his life with you. You also were so very fortunate to be the carer of such a wonderful and very beautiful dog. Der R, you did everything that could be done for Bison, you instinctvely seemed to know exactly what to do at precisely the right time. You have shown your deep love for Bison all through his and your battle against an evil disease. Bison you will be sadly missed by all who followed your brave journey. Rest in Peace. -
PM Staffyluv. She knows more than most about MC tumours. Her boy suffered multiple MC tumours and I think he did have one on his paw. Shoot her a PM, she is very helpful with advice and information.

The New Pet Rescue Site?
cavNrott replied to Aphra's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
They're sabotaging their own website. It seems no one is able to navigate it easily. We know what the result will be for the dogs needing rescue. The administrators used to visit DOL frequently, I remember when they were getting started with their original website. I find it hard to believe they're not aware of the general opion of their new site. Evidently they just don't care. -
Pure Bred Rottie Needs Help.

Greytpets thank you so much for all you did for Lucy. She's now at peace. Godspeed Lucy. -
Sentinel Spectum is safe for puppies. All my dogs have been on it since they were12 week old pups.
-
Good news to hear he's on the improve. Hopefully he'll be back home with you today.
-
Of course he has (the bolded bit). He's a Rottie pup, they're born knowing how to wind humans around their cute chunky little paws. I hope he recovers quickly and he's back home soon.
-
It seems to work for some dogs so that surely makes it a worthwhile experiment. I doubt it would work for all dogs, some dogs are dedicated dirt eaters.

The New Pet Rescue Site?
cavNrott replied to Aphra's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Why, oh why did they fix something that wasn't broken? The site worked beautifully before and it's almost impossible to navigate now. They should ditch the new website and go back to the way it was before. -
I have 2 Cavaliers and occasionally my son's Rottweiler on my bed. The Rottie only sleeps on my bed when my son is out. When he comes home she transfers to his bed.
-
I give my dogs the seaweed Plaque Off and that didn't stop him from dirt eating. The banana did though.
-
Sheky I'm so sorry to hear this terrible sad news.
-
One of my Cavaliers decided at 7yo that eating dirt was good. I read feeding them some banana would stop the dirt eating. As strange as it sounds I did that and it worked. Maybe it's the potassium in the banana. If your pup will eat banana give him a couple of small pieces and see how he goes with it.

Eza, I have just found this thread. I'm so very sorry for your loss. Godspeed Cooper, fly with the angels.
