  1. hehehe.. these are so cute! my OH calls himself #2, because my dog is #1. ;o) (he's a keeper)
  2. These look great, also very friendly and helpful. Alas I think it's too high for my medium sized girl (apx 22kg), but I think would be great for any dog that is smaller. How did you go with the road test?
  3. http://www.smh.com.au/environment/animals/south-korea-dog-meat-festival-bites-the-dust-20110629-1gpnl.html I had no idea that it was so widely done... the sheer number of farms... I have put this topic in here as no doubt this would upset people who choose not to read about such things.
  4. Definitely not gumtree, have only had weird responses from there, if you do advertise on gumtree, be careful not to provide too much information (ie photos) that will reveal your address. (Actually this should apply for advertising in general). And cross advertise, do not rely on gumtree. I have been in this situation, and found domain.com.au provided the best, quality responses from genuine intereted people. I found working professionals, not students (I specifically did not want students as flatmates who might just mope about on days off or just spend time on the couch). Alternately you might get lucky and get students that are into dogs (like vet studies or some other animal studies student?). Flatmate finder was alright too, but didn't yield enough choice for me to choose from. It's good for you to be able to have a range of choices so that it is up to you to decide who you might be comfortable sharing your home and your pets with, that you feel you can trust. ETA: I know that gumtree is great for many things, but what I have said above is based from experience. I found that all gumtree respondants did not read the ad properly in some form or other.
  5. Ouch.. that sounds like a big stress! Sorry you had to go through that Good luck with the house hunt Iskiea. I got very lucky with my second rental (have moved a few times in my dog's lifetime, she is nearly 9 now!), the landlord happily wrote me a reference saying he was happy having her there because it provided better security for his property, and the property manager was great and said I left the house in better condition than when I moved in (cleaner and tidied garden!). Doesnt hurt to ask for these things for when it is time to move again. I have my own house now but I rent that out (to a family with an ACD) but I still rent myself - my landlord has met my dog and also met my fosters
  6. crikey. how they got off being able to keep any dogs at all is incredibly lucky for them... poor dogs.
  7. My girl has a brake-fast bowl and it definitely works - enough so she doesn't cough hack splutter and bring it all back up. It still goes pretty fast, but it does slow her down. While you wait for a bowl to arrive though, you could also put an upside down sturdy ceramic bowl inside the dog bowl - and he would have to work his way around that - it works to slow them down for a little bit
  8. some great natural tips here: http://safeandgreenliving.blogspot.com/2009/05/natural-ant-deterrent-tips.html lemon juice / cinnamon / vinegar / ground garlic look like it might do the trick...
  9. A bunch of shops here, some ppl have recommended grooming specialty stores http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/219057-online-shopping-resources-check-latest-posts-for-webspecials/page__p__5267344__hl__+online++shopping__fromsearch__1#entry5267344
  10. My girl has climbed a bookshelf for chocolate... who would have thought it wasn't safe up that high?? She has been fine no matter what sort of chocolate she has had (amongst which she has stolen cadbury favourites, choc covered coffee beans, and a flatmate left out a massive block of dark forest once - I think she may have been annoyed I didn't replace it although I was more annoyed she left it out despite knowing not to leave food out, especially chocolate!). I think it is the lactose content that is the worst bit? I don't know about the actual chocolate content (although no doubt it is probably not good for them).
  11. I love reading about Amanda's labrador lodge http://www.labradogrescue.com.au/blog/index.php
  12. Has anyone stayed at the Sebel Pier One (sydney) or the Observatory Hotel? The observatory has a size restriction on the dogs they allow into their dog friendly rooms, but Pier One is saying they don't discriminate (you have your own entrance though) and pooch's own room service menu! http://www.sebelpierone.com.au/content_common/pg-sydney-pet-friendly-hotel.seo Sorry this isn't a recommendation, but really would like to hear if anyone has been and if you do or don't recommend it for a special treat...
  13. I just found the same special online...
  14. can you wrap a little rag around the button soaked in some eucalyptus oil or vinegar? not harmful to dog but they don't like the smell/taste. Alternately a similar idea to hang the rags where he would jump up on the couches! (sorry don't know if this would work logistically with your couch design). are your kong/s filled with kibble/treats and not too easy to get? I have used different shaped containers (yoghurt/ice cream tubs) with holes punched in them and edges sealed with duct tape, then treats for them to try get out whilst I am out.
  15. Will both dogs fit on the back seat with the kids? Could you get a (lead) splitter and clip both dogs into the one seat belt clip?
  16. Panto would still pull her choked prawn dance when our latest foster was around (who was completely unfazed by thunder / vacuum cleaners / noises...). The best he would do would be to follow her around pretending to be interested but just really didn't care..! Maybe your two have special calming powers... are they available for loan next storm? ;)
  17. That must have been so horrid, to have to tie your pet up for them to be collected. (and most not getting collection...) The poor people of Fukushima, this nightmare still goes on for them
  18. LOL at eyes bulging like a choked prawn comment!!! Panto does exactly that, accompanied by so many fast barks in a row it turns into one big howly bark, with so much energy her paws get lift off like Levitating-Dog. She has managed to associate lightning with thunder, so that sets her off too, and sometimes when I take photos the flash will bounce off the glass on the windows and she thinks it lightning... I prefer to distract her with training, but sometimes she gets so stressed I just have to do my best to calm her down. I have a sedative on hand for stormy nights, we talked to the vet about her behaviour, I only use it when the thunder is bad, otherwise I'm up half a dozen times (along with everyone else in the house) like something out of the exorcist. The alternative, if it's feasible, ie not in the middle of the night, I put some music on with the bass turned up high (volume depending on what is needed/tolerable). The noise and vibrations seem to distract her from the sound of the thunder too - this works really well I found.
  19. The Sydney one turned out to be exactly like you described the Brisbane one..! We got there early/on time and didn't have to wait too long for much... even the long lines dwindled pretty quickly. Panto got picked to model a coat and we got to keep it too, not that it was expensive, but it was pretty good they did that. Sorry didn't get a chance to pop online before heading out though. Weather was stunning all day too!
  20. It's awesome isnt it... I've seen it and watched it over and over it was so cute
  21. No worries... not sure which one you meant so here they are without trying to use the link tool... (for some reason the pop up thing to put in the link appears too far left of my screen to see what I am doing! Not sure if anyone else has that problem with the new forum format...) http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/219057-online-shopping-resources-check-latest-posts-for-webspecials/page__hl__%2Bonline+%2Bshopping https://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/store/site.do?siteId=310 Happy shopping
  22. Are you looking for wholesale so you can retail? Or gift items to purchase as gifts? If the latter, there's a bunch of resources here or the animal rescue site (in the US) has heaps of this kind of thing here
  23. Hehe... too cute... My girl runs to the furthest room or to the back of the garage, she hates it. She's even balanced herself on a window ledge (indoors!) once whilst shooting evil stares at the vacuum cleaner. My foster on the other hand couldnt care less and lets me vacuum him... he'll even back into it he is enjoying the attention so much!
  24. That's a good price for a standalone purchase K9Angel... good tip, thanks! Blakbelgian - have never bought or used the kind of chain you're after but a quick google found some from the US. Perhaps there is someone else out there that knows these products better that can comment. Good luck!
  25. LOL! You found urban dictionary too! Liger - male lion, female tiger Tigron - other way around
