  1. Don't know if I have posted this in the right place or not but I just wanted to let everyone know that we have some dog thieves in the Port Stephens area. 2 dogs, I think they were both Bull Terrior's were taken last night from a residence at Medowie. There has been a number of dogs taken in the Rutherford/Newcastle area of late one of whom, "Tank" has been found dead just the other day. I don't know if it is the same B@#tards but it certainly sounding like it. Lock up your precious dogs everyone please. Keep an eye out for anything that looks suspect. I am really starting to worry. It is getting way to close to home for my liking
  2. I have been extremely fortunate with my 2 BC's. Both of their breeders have been very helpful, caring people. Always answered my emails if I had any concerns with either one very quickly. Giving me expert advice no matter what the problem may have been related to. Their health, behaviour or me just being a worry wart . Even had offers of advice from Stella father's breeder which I will be taking up her very generous invitation as well. Best to learn from the best. It is sad JulesP you have not been so fortunate & struck an uncompassionate breeder. Especially when your dog was so ill. Owey, hope Bailey is still on the improve today.
  3. Very jealous here. What a cutie. Adorable. Gotta love the Sams :)
  4. What a shame to have his beautiful coat clipped off. It's funny cause when I take Sonny to the vets the vet nurse said that I should have Sonny clipped in the summer time as well cause it is too hot for him. No way thats happening. I have been told that their coat is like an insulator for them against the elements.
  5. What a wonderful job you have done with these 2 lovely whippy guys. Love the photo's too. They just look so much better & sooo content. Great work, lovely happy dogs
  6. I did hear that double coated desexed dogs are much harder to groom than entire dogs but wasn't sure if it were true dancinbc's. That interesting, is there some reason for that? My boy is desexed & he has a magnificent coat but he needs lots of grooming to keep it that way, not that I mind because I am one of those crazy people that love grooming & always have since childhood. And what you say about using a dryer is so true. Since I started using one I reckon it has cut my grooming time down considerably. Sonny wasn't to keen on it at first, was always trying to bite the nozzle but now he is fine with it.
  7. Owey, great to hear Bailey seems to be picking up & is a lot happier, thats wonderful news & we are all very pleased to hear that. Hoping all goes well with the blood tests Poor little fella, will be thinking of him & sending positive thought's his way. Totally understand with a young family you just can't fork out $1,200 for a puppy, which as someone else has said I think sounds too much to me. I spent the same amount on one of mine as you spent on Bailey from a very reputable reg. breeder but don't tell anybody OK I was very lucky as my boy is very special, Sonny hasn't got a perfect bite but he doesn't know that :p
  8. I would estimate that 70% of ANKC registered puppies go primarily as pets, even from the most prominent show kennels. In a show litter there is usually only one or two that go into the showring. If you can get sports homes for some of the rest that is great but by far most of them go as pets but to more experienced dog homes. So getting a pet Border is not at all difficult provided you are the right home to raise a Border and there happens to be a puppy to suit your situation available. Gee dancinbc's, 70% of puppies go to pet homes. Well I never would of thought the percentage would of been anywhere near that. Thought more would go to other show homes & sport. That surprised me. I do understand that not ALL puppies make the grade for the show ring & that was my main point I was trying to get out there. I am really glad I know about it now because I will be getting another BC or 2 or 4  health permitting
  9. Reading this I almost threw up. Just a sickening act of such depraved cruelty. Calves are just the cutest , harmless little things. I hope they catch these b#stards soon before they do something like this again & they will. Maybe see how they might like to be restrained & have rocks pelted at them. Somehow I think not
  10. Im at a loss for words R.I.P. Little ones
  11. I too have heard it is difficult to get a Border collie from a reg. breeder if you are a first timer. I have owned BC's most of my life purely as pets. I presume breeders are just being careful with their precious puppies. From what I understand they almost always also have a waiting list varying in length. So 'pet owners' are usually on the bottom of this list. Not that it bothers me but does explain the sometimes long wait. I have brought one girl I owned for ten years many years ago from a farmer. I was lucky, she was a great girl & very healthy. Hope your puppy hasn't got anything sinister & can pull through this.
  12. My favourite sort of alarm  Loved it !!
  13. I live close to this area & I am also very worried. Even though I don't think they are targeting my sort of dog. You just don't know do you. Mine are out with me from 9am till 11 or 12 pm everyday & have free run of our backyard during the arvo which only has one gate which is always locked & they are inside from around 4pm ish everyday till they go to bed inside at 10pm. I don't know what else to do. I would be so worried if I lived in the immediate area Shouldn't have to live like this just because of these low lives.
  14. Yes I really feel very sorry for these new puppy owners & also this poor little puppy that is just so ill. It is just so very sad for all concerned I used to think the exact same way with regards to 'just wanting a pet' that you were not able to go to a breeder. But I am so glad I researched lots before buying my 2 guys, both brought through highly reputable reg. breeders. I tell anyone who is interested in buying a puppy to buy from a reg. breeder & be prepared to wait but it will be so very worth it. For one thing not ALL puppies from each litter make the grade to become show dogs & that is how I now have 2 amazing 'pet' Border Collies that are very well breed but even more importantly very healthy dogs. All the relevant health tests & checks have been done. I couldn't be happier :)
  15. Sounds like we are feeling a little brighter. Even managed a play
  16. Oh that poor llittle dog. What an horrific end to that much loved cocker's life. A truly tragic thing to happen
  17. I use conditioner on both of mine every time I wash them but not all over. I mainly do their pants, behind their ears, tails, where ever it tends to dry out more & therefore tangle.
  18. Yes, must admit I have to agree with LG, I wouldn't be taking a toy breed to a leash-free. I have seen a big dog have a brain snap with a small dog. Won't go into graffic detail. Something I will NEVER forget, to put it mildly. I would be finding a place where there wasn't any big dogs around even if you have to leave him on lead. Better to be on the safe side with one so small.
  19. My 2 have no interest in other dogs really & that doesn't bother me at all. In fact I try my hardest to stay away from others. Usually more peaceful & safer that way. Agree with bedazzledx2 here. Your dog is showing perfect manners. Sitting down & turning away. "No thanks, I don't want to play today" Wish my girl was that polite to other dogs
  20. How is puppy going today? Was thinking of the poor little fella last night couldn't get to sleep after that. Feel for all concerned. Hope he can pull through
  21. Dear god !! What is wrong with people. I just can not for the life of me comprehend how & why anyone would want to hurt & torture a poor defenseless dog or any living being. I hope this poor boy can come through this but the sheer brutality of this may be to much for him. As for those b&st#rds who comitted this horrific act of cruelty, may you get what is coming to you sooner rather than later.
  22. What a dreadful thing this TNS is. I had no idea it was as hideous as it is. Thank god for all of you responsible, registered breeders out there that do all the relevant checks for this & all the other nasties that exist. Can't help but feel for this poor littley. He just sounds so darn ill. So unfair. I do hope the test comes back clear
  23. Poor little puppy. He is so sick, 40+ temp, e.t.c. I'd be doing whatever Dancinbc's said to do & quickly. This puppy needs attention ASAP to stop the poor little one suffering any more than he already has. It must be very hard for you as you have only just brought him home too
