  1. Breeders should be encouraging more people to become registered breeders. How does that help? Being Registered doesn't mean you're good oe have a clue at what you're doing or keep your dogs in any better conditions that puppy farms. Showing is a showcase of breeding stock - it actually has a purpose .....all dogs can do obedience and agility etc.
  2. Yes Skechers do look great, but don't have anywhere enough support for me. Also remember in Victoria, we have an indoor pavillion and the floor is CONCRETE, we are NOT running on grass when the show is held inside. I just got a pair of super comfy shoes that are black and are like runners but more fancy if you know what I mean, have good support as I'm flat footed. I got them from Betts in Blacktown for $100.00
  3. She is only a baby but she needs your guidence, she won't learn these things on her own. You'll need to make time to train her, she probably won't pick things up as quickly as the Labs and she'll probably be more stubborn about it as well. I suggest you find yourself a good obedience club to attend Do you think you're going to be able to give a puppy what it needs when you're working 13 hour days?
  4. Did a puppy farmer tell you that?
  5. Nope, you are pretty much condemming more dogs to be used a breeding machines in lives of issolation to keep pumping out puppies for people to buy on impluse or when people feel sorry for them at petshops
  6. I didn't actually mention anything about low quality meat but thank you for your reply. I said "Pet Food Prices" - I think you mis-interpreted that. I own Danes not Chihuahua's so I have to find affordable food as well, I'm currently spending $150 per fortnight on my allergic dogs diet so you can perhaps understand what I'm talking about....I'm not talking about low quality food. My dog is actually allergic to Chicken. I mentioned Goat in my post because that is the 'safe' meat I'm looking for.
  7. Not working. http://www.dogs.net.au/boldfolkcollies/ The page you were looking for is no longer available.
  8. Hey Guys, We ran this topic yonky donks ago and I thought I'd see if there are any new suppliers. I'm personaly looking for someone who sells goat for pet food prices, anyone have any experience there?
  9. Some dogs will choose the hard floor even if they have beds....go figure. If the area is dry and not swollen or irritated try that cream and give some Vit E supplementation as well. If there is any swelling or irritation head to your Vets so they can show you how to deal with it as it's usually ingrown hairs.
  10. They can get infected quite easily.
  11. We had a foster dog some years ago that was an insane licker, it took 3 months for him to stop.....lot's of no-bite spray on us when other more gentler methods didn't work.
  12. Personaly, I would just ignore the dog completely, just give it food and water and allow it to settle in without any stress being placed on it.
  13. It's clear that you're upset but in the greater schemes of things nothing bad happened and you being highly emotional right now isn't going to be beneficial when you pick up the dog. Great to hear the dog feels much better.
  14. My girls first chip no longer works so she had a 2nd one done.
  15. Damn difficult if their legs aren't on the ground or the collar is wrapped around another dog's jaw. I remember in a thread a couple of years ago, a Doler left her 3 dogs home with their collars on and one of them got caught on another one's collar. The dog died (or nearly died? cant remember exact details) It was a sad and tragic accident. Anyone else remember that? ETA: Thats it PF!!! Honey has her collar with id tag (with her name and both mine and OH's mobile numbers) on at all times. She is inside when we arent home and has zero chance of catching on anything. Mind you she is unlikely to ever escape either but I do feel much better knowing she can be easily traced to us if that happened. That was the thread I took the collars off my dogs.
  16. IMO, any 'extremist' view of anything isn't good. Hopefully though, this thread, with the balance of views it does contain, will help people become aware, rather than ward them off one thing or the other. Except for washing dogs (especially for no reason other than 'we' like them to smell nice ..... IMO we do that too often). Don't have to express an extremist view for people to be mis-guided. I still think threads like this don't bring about positive things, whether or not you intended to, your wording is very disapproving of the use of cortisone.
  17. Nope, the arm chair expert wasn't directed at your Erny BUT threads like this can be dangerous to people who haventt educated themselves on Cortisone and run a mile from it just because the way people word their disaaproval of the drug.
  18. Lasonil ointment made by Bayer
  19. It can take a little figuring out but with the right Vet you can get your dossage of Cortisone at the bare minimum to avoid things like Cushings. My dog was on higher doses than he needed with previous Vets, the Vets he is with now amended his dossage and he does better and he's a long term Cortisone user....it will most likely shorten his life anyhow although I know of other Danes on it from 3 months of age to 13 years of age, unfortunately we don't have an alternative so his happyness is far more important to me than the length of time he is around. I'm really pleased you were able to accertain your dogs problem was due to a Thyroid problem. I'm also for natural remedies....have tried a bunch of them over the course of my dogs life to date HOWEVER I don't think people should be pushed to them instead of seeing a Vet, too many times on this forum we see a bunch of arm chair experts telling people to use this natural remedy and that natural remedy without the Owner actually doing the leg work first through Vets and Dermatologists to try and accertain the root of the problem. I love Calendula tea for mild stuff, it certainly doesn't do anything for my boy when he's really struggling but I don't think people should be using that either on a long basis if they haven't even seen a Vet about the problem....if there is a reaccuring problem then they need to see a Vet and then possibly a Derm. The saddest thing I have every come across is an Owner who was personaly against Cortisone so refused to use it and the dog suffered untreated....to me that is animal cruelity at its' finest. I know a dog related to my dog who has the same skin issues, her Vet refused to let her treat the dog with Cortisone....my Gosh that dog was the saddest sight, I've not seen a dog in that bad of a condition before.....that dog truely suffered and the dog wasn't getting relief from anywhere else. The Dog is now on Cortisone, happy in itself....the owner knows the dog may not live until it's 12 but at least they know the dog doesn't have to suffer because of someones personal opinion.
  20. No I only got her around 6 months ago.. she is 3 and a half. Can you teach an old dog new tricks? She's not old. Give the dog credit, she could learn 100 commands if that is what you wanted her to do. Within 6 months you could have taught her a lot, but that's ok, you're willing to do it now.
  21. It's not neccessarily about socialising the dog, it's about you showing her what the boundaries are, if you're not sure how to do this, have a session with a behaviourist, even just one session can set you on the right path I don't think an onedience club is the right way to go at the moment, you'll end up stressed because she'll probably be worse there and the instructors may not know how to deal with her, I really do reccomend having one session with a behaviourist before embarking on something like an obedience club. Being a brachy breed doesn't mean you can't walk it on a coller but it does mean you have to train it to walk on a collar. A harness if only teaching the dog to pull, however you could look at getting a front clipping no pull harness.
  22. My dogs only wear collars when they are outside of the house. They are both mircochipped. My dogs have never escaped, but if they do their mircochip has all their details on it and is up to date.
