  1. Yeah that's why I did switch to the Head collar as I was worried about it becoming a habit. It is easier for me to manage when in the head collar. When I walk a bit infront of the labrador Digby is content and will happily walk by my side again Sometimes I will walk just infront to have a break from continuously correcting him. Am I rewarding him by doing that? If it were me and I do, do this with my own dog, I walk him behind my other dog on purpose and he has to walk on a loose leash no matter how much he wants to be infront of her. He has been trained under distraction mind you but will test the boundaries constantly. The thing is, they shouldn't be getting constant corrections, they should get the level of correct that stops them from doing something
  2. With the trying to be in-front, it's not uncommon, it's important that you put your foot down here though as he is trying to get ahead of you and probably the other dog. How our dogs behave in the pressence of other dogs is always interesting, Leila would always try on these types of behaviours when we brought home new Foster dogs. I have read about the head down thing but for the life of me I can't remember whether it was lack of confidence or submission or even an bad behaviour so would love to hear from someone who can answer this one!
  3. It's not unusual....kibble is boring...sometimes they need a change or a taster in with it.
  4. Just sounds like her personality, I wouldn't take it personaly. I only recently started to bond with my boy and he's nearly 3.
  5. You know what they look like.....another company brought out a plastic prong collar some years ago that looked the same as this....I think to it was to soften the look of the prongs.
  6. Some dogs handle their hormones fine and some do not BUT producing puppies to an already over saturated market because you think your dog needs sex is pretty irresponsible. If you think he needs 'relief' then do it via hand or take him to the Vet to get him relieved but I think your Vet will look at your equally as strangely. Your dog may not even be good enough to be bred, you really need to research this alot more, there are a huge amount of Staffy Breeders already.
  7. Has anyone seen the new style Prongs? I came across them randomly but haven't seen them here in Aust?
  8. Dante was a horrible puppy LOL I couldn't wait until maturity came some 2.5 years later LOL
  9. If you're using toileting mats, make sure they are a decent distance away from where puppy eats and sleeps otherwise they won't feel comfortable using them.
  10. Depends on breed, they all have different life expectancies.
  11. I'm lost....can you clarify further?
  12. I really suggest you do, the next reaction may be more intense.....they don't die down as time goes on.
  13. Aussie Dogs are really good for strength.
  14. I'm sorry, Sas, for the troubles your dog has. I wish it could be different, just as I wish it could be different for any health issues any dog has. But I didn't say and don't think I implied you should fit into the "just in case" section. If you think I did and if you'd like me to put up another category (not sure if I have enough poll room to do that) please let me know. You did actually say it Erny. Anyways....
  15. I have a 10 year old Great Dane which is considered old, we try and keep her on the lean side, give her food suitable to her age and activity level and walk her everyday a distance that she is happy with, she is still pretty active, she's seen a muscle manipulator twice but not because she needed to - she just tagged along and they said that she was fine.
  16. That could potentially be another poll, perhaps? If you'd like me to put one up, suggest the questions and question options you'd like put up. Or of course, feel free to start one up under your own user name . I kind of tried (vaguely) to cover that one with the "just in case" question. We don't fit in your 'just in case' section - we fit into 'the dog suffers without Cortisone and would be pts otherwise' so I'd appreciate it you didn't say we should fit into your 'just in case' section
  17. You don't have an option for us, we're on Cortisone no matter if it's summer or winter and we're on it every 2nd day, not just in-case or any other reason other than the dogs condition can not be controlled without and he suffers without it.
  18. From the videos I have watched the dog is targeting the hand so I don't personaly like it. I can't do that with my anyway as his head is higher than my waist.
  19. If the product is not in Australia you may not get it through customs. If you're interested in treating your dog holisticaly I would reccomend you see a Holistic Vet or do a phone consultation with one if there are not any in your area. Good Luck. Ester C is known to be great for HD/ED if you're interested.
  20. Looks like something has been put into the wrong container?
  21. I have an old girl who zooms after food, I don't stop her, she's approx. 10 this year. In general though in regards to walk we leave an hour either side of food.
  22. Dogs don't self exercise so your yard size is irrelevant. If you research the breed before you get it you'll find out how much exercise is generally required. There is nothing wrong with structured on lead activity, it's a great time to work with the dog. If you're looking ay a Gun dog breed then be prepared to do 2 walks a day and mental stimulation as well but a Breeder of your choosen Gun Dog would best assist you as some breeds shouldn't recieve forced exercise as pups.
