  1. I'd have the dogs back checked as well...just being slightly out can cause them to drop in a sit stay as it's uncomfortable.
  2. Awwww, will you at least video it so that WHEN you pass you can show us all!? LOL Ok, My instructor and friends are trying to figure out where my trials are, they better not turn up!
  3. Not telling anyone I'll just have to turn up to all of them then! I know I have to be positive but I don't wish to fail with an audience :D
  4. Woohooo, I just learned my Obedience instructor Luci Ellem judged Rally in the States and she's going to start introducing Rally into our Obedience classes YAY!
  5. Many of the dogs in my breed in the show ring do not know how to sit, they know how to behave at home and how to work in the show ring. Alot of show dogs don't know how to sit and that came from the fear of the dog sitting in the ring. Times are changing and the dogs will benefit - people have to give dogs more credit - they can understand the difference of show ring obedience and trial ring obedience. My obedience trained dog has never sat in the show ring - it's not a hard command....
  6. I was at the Vets with a dog just pulled out of the pound and told people that but they still wanted their dogs to say hello!
  7. Thanks everyone for all your suggestions, it really is appreciated, I'll report back hopefully with some success soon!
  8. I know someone who did, the dog reacted to it.
  9. We use Grapeseed oil, Chia Seed soaked + Evening Primose Oil for itchy dog. Some information on why I decided to go with these items after trying to standard fish oils etc. without any success: (They work for us but maybe not for you). Grapeseed Oil Grape seeds contain antioxiants, which protect the body from a number of health problems caused by the free radicals. Besides, this oil is rich in Vit E, flavonoids, Vit C and beta-carotene. Effective in reducing the symptoms associated with allergies and asthma, as it suppresses the production of histamine (an amine released by the immune system during allergic reactions). Grape seed oil contain linoleic acid, an polyunsaturated fatty acid, which is an essential component of the cell membrane. It provides nourishment to the skin and aids in skin repair. No serious problems reported for use in dogs so far i.e. problems with dogs eating grapes. Chia Seed made into a Gel Chia is the highest plant based source of Omega 3, dietary fibre and protein. Favorable Omega-3 to Omega-6 ratio (3:1) - Currently, most foods found in supermarkets today have ratios of 1:15-30 which increases the risk of inflammation. Promotes regular gut function. Chia is an ancient superfood that is very similar to flax, but without the estrogen and phytoestrogen element. EPO EFAs have been found to help with allergy-based skin problems, limiting the degree of itching and scratching. Secondary conditions such as dermatitis, seborrhoea and skin infections also appear to benefit. In addition EFAs can be used as supportive treatment for a variety of other common conditions. These include heart disease, arthritis, cancer, immune system problems and kidney disease.
  10. I'm about 170cm and he's 33.5 inches to the shoulder so is infact a small Dane.
  11. Yeah, my Obedience instructor who is a Judge also said last night it was technically if he was close enough to get the dumbell, however technically I could really lean forward to get it But I feel she is concerned I will not get a pass on the recall as he is sitting too far away, although understands he is a big dog as well. How does he sit at heel? Well that would depend on how motivated he is at that moment, if he's in a bit of a blah mood he'll roll back into the sit. He has Osteo so I'm not sure how much this contributes to the problem of tucking his legs under him rather than rolling back. I have about a month before CCD and this the main problem other than lagging a bit in Figure of 8. My other Dane can scoot sit, she just does it naturally (smaller Dane as well), so he COULD do it, it's almost like showing him he CAN if that makes sense. We attempted to shape it however mentally it doesn't seem like he realises he can come in, I may be being nieve there and he's just fooling me. I'm affraid I can't visualise the solution you've put forward, can you explain it in a different way?
  12. Sas he is awesome you have done a really good job with him! I entered some trials coming up....cross everything I'm not utter rubbish on the day!
  13. nawww thanks, he's been a work in progress as I'm sure any dog is, we nearly lost him last year so I am extremely proud of him and his advancements - if only his handler was better LOL target my fanny, what an awesome idea!
  14. Will gladly swap giant independent breed for experienced trialing working dog!
  15. mmm maybe I just show him the picture then!
  16. Sas I would love to see a vid of his flip finish if you have one, it's always awesome seeing the big dogs doing them Here ya go: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4eahJDQBE0 I'm still using the foot target at the moment as he gets confused without it during the early stages. Excuse the exagerated "Heel" signal - he was getting confused between the 2.
  17. Ok, well I've give the targeting some work over the next week and see how we go in the initial stages. We've been working on a flip finish to compliment his standard go around behind finish so every time I call him in now he's not coming in straight for the front position....it's either one thing or another with dogs isn't it!
  18. Ok dookey, I shall try! I did treats from the mouth when he was a pup so hopefully that will bring him in closer however knowing him I think I may have more chance with the targeting.
  19. Yep but because he's a big dog that's actually harder said than done I think in the video you can see that size does come into the problem.
  20. Example of problem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1VGLulzFh0
  21. Yeah that's where we were about to head, I'll try the ground target first and see how we go!
  22. He does roll back on the sit so it does take him further away but he is stopping short as well.
