  1. here (WA trials) the judge tells the steward exactly when to intervene though generally the eye contact between steward and judge is enough and no words are spoken. There is no way a judge would allow a "friend" to enter the ring and control the dog.
  2. no they are not toxic, we too are just growing a hedge of them. I found this http://www.hear.org/pier/wra/pacific/murra...ata_htmlwra.htm we can eat them too apparently :p
  3. only just seen this RIP Faith run free now sweet angel
  4. I saw it at the cinema and sobbed all the way through, watch it at home with a brandy and a box of tissues
  5. thinking of you and sending hugs to you and your dogs :p
  6. It seems from this thread of complaints that you are a good rescue if you are nice and sweet to people and give the dog for free as there is no cost involved apparently. I mean all the people who call are absolutley wonderful especially the "I had my last dog pts he ate the washing " and "I just got a yard with cars in it and need a guard dog " and my favourites " we want a dog for the kids or a dog for the other dog who is out of control and needs company" We get fantastic people too, a joy to talk to and a perfect home for the dog who has already had more than enough to cope with in his life and absolutely deserves the very best we can find for them. See you at the airport :D
  7. congats to everyone especially that little Cider. I am with Rubystar will come and help you take her away, she is super cute too
  8. If I am responsible for rehoming a dog, the people have to walk over hot coals, bow, beg do tricks and impress me with their nice manners. If they pass all that then I go and look at their home their pets and family and make sure the washing is up to date and that the dog will live the life of Riley which it so richly deserves. I then cry a lot as I say goodbye and good luck. and yes I am GOD of DOG when rehoming,I am the dogs guardian angel protector and poo picker ;) so there !
  9. they show Yes I have seen them bring a golden out a few times this year. Have not seen them out with a Flat Coat though. ;) yes always have shown but had a break of a couple of years, doing well in the ring too ... actually back to the OP, there are other flatcoats and a litter is due according to the breed pages, plus maybe go to the show on gundog day, chat with people watch the lovely flatcoats there and get some advice. We had one in rescue a couple of years ago, the most stunning black dog.
  10. I don't doubt there may be bad shelters, did you see the one in the US with about 100 dogs and cats in disgusting dead and dying condition ? The ones here (WA) are all pretty good but there is one which advertises as a rescue but sell without any vacs or surgery or vet check. I agree that in 72 hours there isn't even enough time to do any basic assesment. Sorry for your experience and your reputable shelter just lost its good reputation...tell people, write to the shelter about your experience. It may do some good.
  11. I am not a JR person at all but recently had a foster here maybe crossed with a mini foxie. He was a wee rat bag but honestly this dog responded to training so quickly and really was incredibly cute that he melted my heart. Good luck with your choice of puppy. I agree with the shelter person too..poodles are very bright I am very prickly ar your comment rescue is very tough, very emotional, hard work and any group I have ever been involved with only have the dogs interests at heart. We know the alternative and it isn't pleasant. Maybe you would like to donate some time and volunteer at your local shelter.
  12. I agree with everything he says, thanks for the link I haven't visited the site in a while I could have missed it
  13. just read whole thread congrats for whatever you decide with Dylan ( I like the name Spot but was too slow ) more pics please
  14. do you go out to him when he is barking ? you should and not just a yell from the back door, he is worried about the activity and letting you know. Go outside with him, teach him what is ok that you have no concerns about. If he is out alone and barks go and investigate, see why he is barking, if it is a bin lid, gardener whatever which is of no consequence then tell him. Let him know the object of his barking is not a problem. Stand in front, investigate, tell him it's ok and bring him inside. Do this every time you are home. Barking escalates, he is letting you know there is a problem, please respond.."hey it's ok, its just Mr Jones doing his garden " come along now" If he is home alone please confine him inside in the laundry till you have this beat and an hour a day for a golden is not enough excercise. Get him retrieving. play fetch in the yard...a lot...play with him, take him swimming. Goldens have a lot of energy and are very active in their youth. Make sure he has stuff to play with when you are not at home, a kong with his dinner in, a long bone too..chewing is very calming for a dog. Make a sceen so he can't see the activities. teach him some basic obedience, join a dog club, join a gun club maybe or take him tracking, have some fun with him. Don't teach him speak he will never shut up then as goldens love to please and offer behaviour.
  15. I missed this mistress Ruby Star unfortunately sometimes family gets in the way of dog events Where are your priorities :D every now and again I feel guilty

  17. as part of the obedience committe practice trial there will be a Rally O show and go at 11am. The obedience starts at 10. Canine grounds.
  18. socialise socialise socialise is my advice, kids, dogs, people, old people, shops, drive through, parks, buses, trucks, bikes, prams, pavements, grass, everything and anything you can think of. If I posted everything I would go on all day. Take your puppy with you now everywhere you will expect him to go with you in the future, beach, river etc. You can hold him if he isn't vaccinated. and sounds like you are having fun teaching tricks and focus and attention
  19. lovely story, thank you so much for posting yep there are still sensible places in the world where dogs roam and cause no problems whatsoever. I grew up in such a place and when I go to a country where this is still the norm it generally takes me a few seconds to get out of Australian mode
  20. I wish we could start something up like this in Australia any takers ? http://www.cinnamon.org.uk/
  21. well you should be ashamed of yourself. I don't give a rats what you say. I KNOW pupos are destroyed when past cuteness. I also help pick up the debris of unwanted spur of the moment purchases, unfortunately there are not enough of us to pick up them all.Anyone who says they have sold thousands of pups has no cedibility whatsoever. Back on topic. It is against the law in WA for breeders to sell pups through petshops. I thought it was a national ANKC rule if anyone could enlighten me. I see a few people are describing themsleves as ethical breeders who are backyard brigade...maybe...maybe not. I have yet to find a backyard breeder who will take their unwanted pups back. Maybe the only backyard ethical breeders post here on dol. Ban the sale of pups in pet shops, get rid of those rotten puppy farms. :D
  22. Concerned about the posts re the GSDA club I just spoke to the person who takes the reactive dog class. There has only ever been one cross breed in the class and they are still there. There is more than one shepherd club but I would imagine living in Armadale that this would be where you went. They can and are happy to help you. The reactive class is not on the regular day, it is a small class when no other dogs are on the ground apart from a few puppies sometimes when requested to attend.
