  1. they do it every week ps mason I have sent you a pm
  2. we need to do some video so we can see what went wrong. I mean I think( probably wrong) you just needed to be faster and closer to the bar, either that or you lost concentration since the important bits were clear. I cursed bad luck, very bad luck. Forgot to say too that the judge was very pleased with the small dogs who missed out.
  3. that was a lovely run last evening, the only one I saw :D
  4. This type of thread pops up now and again but honestly the bottom line is Do You Love Your Dog ? I know YOU do :D After the fact that is all that matters :D if you don't then the problem is with you and not the breeder. You are now the member of a great forum with masses of info which you can use next time and meantime assist friends with making good sound choices by directing them here !
  5. how much training have you done and what have you done ?
  6. it is the closest to the show and they will accommodate your times as well. Marianne runs the place beautifully and Dad is still around. Rainbow coast was owned by Jan Benson from memory Ridgebacks, it is on Albany Highway a little out of town close to the airport. If they are still there it is a well run kennels There is another in the king river area, I forget the name but not sure it its still trading and I can't offer a recomendation as I have never used them . We lived in Albany have used both Ulster and Rainbow. Ulster was closer and Dad president of the club, plus a good friend but both are good.
  7. some people won't listen I had a 2 yr old small breed for adoption. I refused a family and explained the resons why. I told them in view of their age that I would call them when an older dog of the same breed came into care. They weren't happy but when I am 84 I am sure I will be very happy with an old dog. I got a call a few weeks later from the same people, they had bought from the newspaper a young dog and couldn't manage. The young dog is now with SAFE Perth and looking forward to life with a young energetic family. This is just an example but most dogs which are surrendered are for people going into care, a new baby, a house move, a new partner who doesn't like dogs and the usual behaviour problems, jumping barking etc. So what is the answer ? I have no ruddy idea. My own dog was being PTS because he peed everytime someone went near him, he was actually a serial barker too. He is now confident happy and I rarely hear him bark, if he does I always investigate the cause. Yes it took work and time and these are the two things the people who surrender are not prepared to give to the dog. Elderly people going into care are really needy and because of the don't care attitude of others rescues and shelters have to make the heartbreaking decision to turn them away. I have mentioned before the Cinamon trust in the UK which keeps pets with their owners and if they die or go to care they match the animal with another elderly person who has lost their dog/cat. They provide walkers, feeders and groomers who are volunteers to assist the elderly and their pets. http://www.cinnamon.org.uk/
  8. yes but by question and answer as there is no compulsary chipping here in WA. I don't know what the answer is, I really don't. I think in the last thread I said something like you can't control people...So even though no one wants more laws I am sorry but they are needed. If a dog is chipped to Joe Blog in a compulsary chipping programme then they are responsible and they should collect the dog/puppy and be responsible for the welfare of that animal. Good breeders take care of their dogs and their puppies future and if the rest don't then someone needs to make them responsible.I don't care if they are the pure breed community, the backyard crew or the farmers, they should all be equally responsible for their own breeding. I don't know if the pet shops are responsible for all the deaths but they give an outlet for sale much like gumtree and other online sales rooms. You know I was told yesterday that one particular pound were euthanaising 90 dogs today, that is bloody shocking, so whoever is breeding them need to be making sure they are going to a place they are loved and cared for. I am honestly trying to keep emotion out of this thread but gee it is hard. Poor bloody dogs and the ones I feel for the most...the cross breeds that aren't cute and fluffy, the poor staffy cross, kelpie cross, bully cross cos they get the last chance which is often no chance and they die in their thousands every year. I know "pure" dogs die but they do have a much better chance as there is often someone looking for that particular type of dog.
  9. I think you will find it is as soon as they open their eyes and even before birth even with tummy rubs and talking Much like mums now know to talk and sing and read to their unborn baby I did that anyway instinctively but now it is in all the books.... pet shop pups do have issues with peeing in the right place it is a common problem. I absolutely hate to see mixed litters in the shop window together and when you speak to staff about a bully puppy they have no idea what you are talking about. I don't know what the answer is, I don't think anyone does but certainly pet shop purchases take the lion share of surrender, we don't know about the pound as often there is no history which is why compulsary chipping really should be the first step. Having said all that I know someone really well who bought the knock down price puppy who had been there too long and was probably off to the back room and that wee puppy( even though peeing is still a problem sometimes but much improved) is a sweet social dog, loves everyone.
  10. They have no idea they can get a pup from a registered breeder for less money and with vet certs for parents, I tell them as I cruise around places like PP. There is NOT enough promotion of pure breeds except the bad promotion last year. On here...sure...it is a pure breed forum, we all know and love dogs and many of us know breeders and have seen the dogs strutting their stuff. I will help anyone to find a rescue dog and I will help anyone looking to buy a pure breed, if I don't know the breeders of a particular breed then I will ask other breeders I know and trust who will. The problem is in this instant society people are not prepared to wait and honestly can't understand why they need to wait for a puppy. They don't care about the poor bitch in a cage mated every season...they just see the cute puppy in a glass cage and want it much as they want the latest gadget for the kitchen. There needs to be more public awareness about farms, pet shops and the pure breed community to assist people to make the right choices. We need to stop this dumpathon of dogs or at least slow it down.
  11. cheers I use vaseline or meths will try this way next time
  12. I feel that each state could run a "discover dogs" much like they do at Crufts which I thought was absolutely fantastic with breeders certainly letting people know if they thought the breed might not be suited to the people asking, so not just a case of my breed is best because I love them I mean really getting to the nitty gritty of matching dogs to new Mums and Dads. I think this could run beautifully with a charity show with proceeds going to rescue, a massive show with both confirmation and sport. a real weekend of dogs. The cat fanciers could do the same. However I believe we need to ban animals in pet shops as I can't see for one second those puppies getting any adequate socialisation.
  13. get a free TSH done cost is around $74. ask for it, if there is a problem which shows as in a low thyroxine you can start the treatment. Your vet will probably want to do a full blood test first which if they do have an underactive thyroid will show all sorts of odd changes and still doesn't test the thyroid. If the thyroid test is ok then go the Jean dodds.. oh I see Erny answered so my 2 cents is all and now If i suspect any dog has a thyroid problem ( rescue) I go straight for the free TSH and ignore all the other stuff if it is low or negligable till they have been on thyroxine for a few weeks, then get levels done and possibly a full blood count.
  14. so sorry Moselle, nothing ever prepares us and that is dogs for you stoic to the end while making us feel we should have known, should have noticed, should have seen something...but they carry on as normal for a long as possible especially when there will not be any discernable symptons..you poor thing, your heart must be broken but she has no more pain and is running free My heart goes out to you Moselle, some of us have been where you are now. Run free now Sophie
  15. I will be of course. :p But I won't be coming to obedience tonight so goodluck everyone. Nawww well you missed Milliemoo CCD becoming Milliemoo CD! :p She was a good little girl, 1st place and 193/200. A little mishap with her stopping to sniff the ring ropes would have seen a few more points on that perhaps Couldn't be prouder of how she worked though, she was happy and worked very hard! Ruby worked hard tonight too, being the cheerleader for Millie from the car well done Millie
  16. ask Emma, she might be interested. I need to watch a few first

  19. graduation is the 6th Dec, Xmas party the 13th ACWA do school terms as well but they all have a seminar hence the wind up being the 30th Nov
  20. Cheers Quick, let's all hide :D How many weeks left for this term? I think last week was the 4th week of the 10 week beginners course, so by my reckoning another 6 weeks? Once you've joined, and if there are no events on, can you go down there and use the area to exercise/practise with your dogs? will be dark ;) also probably closed as we are the only ones who use the place on a Monday unless there is a judges course or a meeting or something which isn't often. Helena was teaching doggy dancing on Mondays but not seen her for a while she must have changed her night.
  21. Don't show that google maps photo to the show people, they will see just how much bigger our oval is and want to trade  I think the bindi's will scare them off again (I need my show puppy, so I can wear the show/performance hat and nobody can tell me off for making jokes like that :D) the new entrance is going in on Lakey street and the caretaker is getting a new house, not sure where that is going but I wish they would plant some trees for shade down there on the lower oval
