  1. RIP Ned dear boy,you are home at last.... Hugs to all involved who tried to help ned...................................
  2. Could it be the dog shampoo or flea treatment you are using on her now.If she is scratching a lot she may have an allergy to her food which can alter the way she smells. So can a yeast or other infection. Discuss her diet with the Vet;she may need blood tests and a change of diet.If you were allergic to dogs i would expect a reaction to your mothers dog as well.
  3. Congratulations ,she's a sweet little darling.
  4. Actually i did call the RSPCA once about pups in a pet store that were there for months growing up behind glass day and night only let out in a court yard for a short time each morning. One was a 7 month old border collie x who spent his day trying to jump up and out of his glass box.A 5 month old mastiff x who stared up at the corner of his box for hours .3x 15 week old Weimaraner x pups who spent thier day fighting with each other and chaseing thier tails. The RSPCA did nothing because they had food water and shelter. Animals think and feel ,they are living intelligent creatures who should not be made to endure the mental torment of being on display in a Pet store.I hope i see the day when no animals are sold from pet stores.
  5. I am so very sorry for your loss.RIP Atlas.
  6. If they like a retriever with less shedding consider a Curly Coated Retriever. They have a coat drop once or twice a year ,the rest of the time there is little shedding. The coat is very easy wash and go.With many Poodle crosses there will be quite a lot of grooming /clipping and some will shed all the time. How much grooming is your SIL able to do.
  7. One of my female cats lived to 17 but was pts due to cancer.
  8. DOGEM....Stands for,.. Dog -owners-get together-every-month.
  9. Your sister will have to add the cost for grooming unless she can do so herself. What amount of grooming did her Spaniel x poodle need.
  10. Yes if your not sure ,let it go, he will find a good home. The shelter do a lot of screening of applicants.I had a similar thing when i went with Hubby to look at reptiles;there was an older pup i had seen there a few times and the more times i saw her the more smitten i was.I hate seeing them in pet stores but i'm pretty good at not falling for the cute pup but this one really got to me.I couldn't stop thinking about her but new i should let it go so i did.Eventually she was sold and i was just relieved she was out of there and in a home. Once this dog is adopted you will feel the same .
  11. He looks a sweetheart,He will get snapped up quickly. Also love the border collie x spaniel.Lots of great dogs waiting for a home.
  12. The Lhasa Apso sound close to what you are after, if they are not too small. There are 4 breeders with pups listed in the puppy pages.
  13. Perhaps they were just joking and there may have been more to the conversation than what you heard.
  14. She may like to look at a Potuguese water dog or Miniature Schnauzer .There is a Lab x Poodle on Pet rescue at Pets Haven in Woodend ,Vic.
  15. I could be wrong but i think i saw him listed a week or 2 ago,but i look at a lot of sites. He may have been withdrawn because he has a tummy bug or kennel cough and needs to recover before he is available for adoption.Just keep calling back the shelter so they know you are very interested in him.
  16. What is the ACCC and what do they do.,pardon my ignorance.
  17. Yes there is a similar ''Rescue'' in Melbourne taking in for free unwanted dogs and litters .I have emailed them. Was offered a pup,no questions asked, from 3 litters that ""just came in ''for $350. Of course i declined,.Older dogs'' not desexed'' are i was told $ 350 to $450.
  18. Having a higher price for some dogs is not so much about putting a money value on the dog. It's about attracting the right owner for that particular dog or breed. Some pure breeds and crosses, particularly those not often seen in rescue, are highly sought after by those who simply like the idea of getting a ''cheap ''purebreed'' or something rare or unusual, because they can. I once enquired about an unusual yet popular cross breed in a shelter. They had 15 applications on the first day the dog was advertised.Other dogs they had there were being overlooked.I think they should have asked a lot more for that particular dog in order to discourage those wanting to adopt her for her novelty alone and even out the focus back to the other dogs that were there.
  19. It does go back to helping other dogs ;like those that need a leg amputation or the costs of careing for a large litter of pups.
  20. Add up the cost of the following.Vaccinations ,desexing, feeding the dog while it waits to be adopted, medications, vet checks, blankets, bed, toys, flea treatment.Did i forget anything.?Easily more than $700.
  21. I love Curly Coated Retrievers a breed sometimes overlooked, they are on my short list.Good luck with your searching.
  22. Here is a dog breed selector that may give you some ideas. http://www.selectsmart.com/DOG/
