  1. Snips is a licker and she gets into trouble all the time for doing it, has not stopped her at all.
  2. Although the older dogs have advantages I would be hesitant to get one from interstate, a puppy may be a better option. Or is it possible to find a rescue dog closer to home?
  3. She is very cute, can't wait to see more pics as she grows
  4. Patch has 2 teaspoons of yoghurt each day on his kibble, Jalna natural one and he loves it.
  5. Our white whippet had iritated feet like this and changing him to a food for sensitive skin and cutting out meat has worked wonders
  6. I am very lucky, Jed stays inside by himself and does nothing other than sleep until we get home :D
  7. Jed does that too, he wakes up my OH and runs to the back door, when he gets there he runs back and jumps up on the bed and lays down. He will not move, he just goes like a dead weight and he literally has to drag him off. It is really funny though.
  8. Makes me wonder how a greyhound who has less than perfect sight is considered to be more dangerous. That was so awful for that boy, he is a lovely dog and lucky to have such dedicated owners.
  9. My boy will not be able to ever get green collar because he has pannus.
  10. I love walking our dogs, I walk the four together and it is our clear the head start or finish to the day. :D
  11. We spent ages trying to decide what breed of dog to get for our son and family, researched the breeds we liked and that fitted in with our lifestyle. It came down to two, an ex racing greyhound or a whippet. The waiting list for cat friendly greyhounds was another 8 months or so; after four months of searching we bought Ella a tiny blue whippet who was only two days old, We got photo updates from the bybreeder of her progress and I was besotted with this tiny little blue girl. It was about 4 weeks after her birth when our son said I wish we could have had a patchy dog and I could have called him Patch. Next time I spoke to the breeder she said she had a lovely white and blue boy left and we could swap if we wanted; broke my heart even thinking about it. Ended up we bought both and although there have been quite a few issues with Patch healthwise (really low immunity)we adore them. Jed was our first foster, we did end up getting a greyhound as well who sadly passed over the bridge quite quickly. Jed was a nightmare, you could not get near him, walking him he walked on the end of the lead as far away as he could, but my Hubby saw something. He also had pannus and I was thinking why would anyone ever adopt a dog like this. Well gradually he started to come to me and by the time he left for his home I was really sad to see him go. I rang after a week to see how he was and things were getting on well. Rang after the trial of two weeks was up and she was still happy and didn't think anything more of it. A week later I got a phone call, couldn't get him to eat and he was not fitting in, and as he was so shy she asked if I would keep him if she gave him to me. I did say yes but wondered if I had done the right thing. He had lost 5 and a half kilos in weight and I barely recognised him. He walked straight in and plopped onto the bed he had been sleeping on and went to sleep. We get to see a side of him that very few do because he is so scared and only really feels comfortable with us in his home. Snips was a show dog , unsuitable for the ring because of her ears popping up; we were approached to take her because of a lady who knew us and our dogs. We went to look at her and OMG!!!!! she spent the first 19 months or so of her life in a crate and then was let out into a yard and she was a nutbag!!!!! Of course she licked the OH's hand and would not come anywhere near me!!! Yes she went home with us and now there are four!!! The fosters come and go and each one teaches Jed that life is not that scary. BTW Snips is a snuggler and she cuddles me, so now I have this thing that any dog that doesn't like me ends up staying and being my shadow.
  12. All of our rescue dogs are desexed prior to re-homing and all of our own animals are desexed. There are enough dogs needing homes without me adding to the problem.
  13. What a lovely thing for Maddie to do, such a sad thing for the little girl and her mum. I do think animals are very sensitive to our feelings.
  14. Love my crate trained whippets, found it so easy when I had the two pups and then we aquired Snips at 2 years, who came crate trained and loves her crate. If the world gets too scary thats where you find her, in her own personal portable den.
  15. Three girls and two boys, all desexed and similar in nature
  16. For young kids "The puppy who wanted a boy" by Jane Thayer
  17. Beautiful baby with those stunning eyes, congratulations
  18. What a beautiful boy, amazing colouring. Hope he is feeling better
  19. Jed will only eat Optimum, we have tried everything from Advance, Royal Cannon to Supercoat but he is really fussy, the whippets will eat anything.
  20. Snips is a tissue monster, although she swears it was not her, she also likes to gut pillows but only brand new ones.
  21. This is Jed, "well you wear them how you want and I'll wear them how I want"
  22. Jed dances with his pigs ear before he eats it, complete with head shakes and bowing
