  1. Don't like the T's and C's, move on. Breeders can pick and choose who they sell pups to and any conditions they place on a sale.
  2. It's not about dumping all bull breeds into the same category, it's about knowing and understanding a breeds history and temperament. The happy go lucky SBT that readily accepts and tolerates the majority of other dogs and their behaviours is the exception, rather than the rule. For the most part they are fine with other dogs that play by their rules and they are "a gentleman unless set upon", the rules are pretty tough, you play nice, don't challenge them or do anything that can be perceived as aggressive. We can talk generalisations when it comes to what is typical of any breed, these traits are what defines them as a breed, otherwise we would be discussing "generic" dog.
  3. Get some chlorhexadine from a vet. Dilute with warm water, scrub the area thoroughly to remove any scabs and debris and then dry thoroughly with a clean towel. You'll need to repeat this at least once a day for a few days and it will clear up.
  4. For all the "nice" dog anecdotes out there, a Stafford that is true to type and temperament will finish what another dog starts. It's how you manage your SBT's that determines the outcome. Other have said that you will get dogs and bitches at either end of the scale, being submissive to dog aggressive, the majority fall somewhere in between, which means it's all fine until another dog starts something or they react to something they don't like. I believe that for the bulk of my dogs and bitches over the years, they have been typical in terms of temperament. The dogs are generally fine with bitches regardless of breed, dogs tend to be fine with others that don't push the buttons or by challenging them, dogs tend to posture and give you plenty of warning of how they are going to react and what they are going to do. Bitches on the other hand are usually "bitches", they fall out with one another easily, harmonious bitch relationships are much harder to maintain and manage. They don't give you a lot of warning of when they are going to attack and when they decide they want another bitch gone they mean it. I would happily put a male SBT with a Cairn female. I've run mine with various breeds small and large without incident. The combinations that are likely to give you trouble are same sex and entire, same sex and similar ages, mother daughter combinations.
  5. From then on is the time you are most likely to encounter issues.
  6. Couldn't registration prices be increased so that the extra income can go to an independent body to employ people to police greyhound facilities. The TAB/bookies could give a percentage of income from dog racing to that independent body as they are the big winners from gambling. Change laws so that if you have purchased a greyhound you wish to race it must be from and go through registered greyhound facilities. If you have registered your property as a greyhound facility you must allow unannounced inspections. Since they can record all breeding dog's DNA, they can record and check if all dogs that are racing have been through registered facilities. Increased prices will help prevent breeding on a whim. I'm guessing we all know that not all show breeders are ethical, look at Crufts this year. I know of a family that put their kids second to the dogs and they suffered for it, plus the dog's life wasn't what I would say was ideal. I've heard whispers about some dog sport competitors just as I had heard whispers about live baiting. I've seen many many dogs not enjoying their experience in the show ring, trial ring or participating in a training session you can see they would rather be anywhere else. I'm guessing not on the same scale as money but self esteem can be a powerful motivator to win at all costs too, . You must already allow inspections. At any given time a GRNSW official can walk onto my property, demand to see the papers of any Grey present, they can also ask where any Greyhounds are that are listed as being in my care. All owner/trainers and public trainers have their kennels inspected. The down fall is that since my initial inspection I have not seen them since. GRNSW has now introduced a "breeders licence" , I will see the extent to which this might positively impact on litters and their care when I renew my licence next month.
  7. dogs suffer in the industry, dogs suffer warehoused in kennels in the name of "rescue" , neither is right, neither is acceptable... unless of course it's in the name of "saving" them and then it's don't ask questions
  8. I believe that they use a loophole in the legislation in that the "owner" of the dog can request a breed assessment and temp test subject to breed assessment (providing it's assessed as an APBT cross). Because the dog does not technically have an owner once the 7 or 14 days is up, local councils can dispose of the dog. They do not have to yield to public pressure to allow the dog to be breed assessed, if they have suspect the animal to be of a restricted breed or cross. Let's face it based on phenotype and application of the current legislation they are right in this instance and without a "registered owner" to take them to court they will win this battle every time.
  9. SBT male and female Cairn will be fine together. The males are rarely aggressive towards bitches and tend to take being bossed around by the girls in their stride. I would personally be looking closely at the temperament of the parents. Buy from a registered breeder who knows their dogs, knows their lines and you shouldn't have an issue. There is no way in hell I would have a female SBT and a female Cairn together.
  10. what will happen to the dogs if they can't race ? They will more than likely be euth'd. Property law still applies.
  11. Yep, where they won't be monitored at all. At least those out in the open can be inspected.
  12. GRNSW have not been back to inspect my property or check on the welfare of any animals since the day they approved my kennels.
  13. Nice man or not, he'll be lumped in with those caught and will have his reputation ruined regardless of what he may not have done
  14. http://www.centralwesterndaily.com.au/story/2895226/let-my-dogs-race-owners-greyhounds-banned-after-trainer-suspended/?cs=103 He will have his Greyhounds returned and either self trained or put in the hands of another trainer. The dogs are technically his property. The only issue is how long it will take. Greyhound careers are very short and could all but be over by the time they sort this out .
  15. I don't know about "keeping dogs hungry" but there are plenty of trainers who feed them a pathetic diet and expect top performance from an animal. Keeping a dog hungry, in race condition and within your 1kg variance would be difficult to do. A hungry , underfed dog drops condition.
  16. I doubt if attempts to stop the transfer of dogs into other people's names will make much of a difference. Most of these trainers will be "public trainers" which means they probably have some of their own dogs in their own names but many of the high profile trainers have syndicated dogs in their care that belong to others and they are simply paid based on performance, they usually do not have any property rights over the animal. As far as I can see the likes of Keybow are not owned by Darren McDonald. That dog will continue to be raced (if not already retired) , as it's the trainer licence that has been suspended. If those caught live baiting are owner/trainers, that would put a halt to the animal racing (unless transfers can take place) How this plays out will be dependant on the rules and regs of GRNSW GRVIC etc. I can see immediate court challenges if attempts are made to deregister any syndicated dogs and dogs not owned outright by the trainers suspected of live baiting. There will be lawyers tied up with this for months if not years with this. If successful prosecutions aren't made by the RSPCA, I don't see a lot changing.
  17. As I see it they kinda have taken the law into their own hands by setting up hidden cameras on the properties which comes down to trespass as I am sure they didn't have permission to be on the land. As much as I am happy that this has been exposed and people can now do something about it I kinda don't want to go down the road of letting anyone set up cameras on my property regardless if I am law abiding I will be ok as it is an invasion of privacy. I can't see how the videos will be able to be used in the courts as evidence and the media trial has already began so I can see them using that as a means to try and get let off. It's an invasion of privacy and trespass, although one could argue that the end result justifies the means. We've all seen how animal rights have torn apart and shattered the lives of breeders that were supposedly doing the wrong thing, the illegally gained footage showed a Collie breeder to be cruel and neglectful when in the cold light of day they weren't. Obviously these people cannot deny what they were doing was cruel and illegal. Perhaps this should be the catalyst to scrap the RSPCA powers and return it to "all creatures great and small" and establish a Government body within DPI or similar
  18. unannounced inspections aren't going to catch our locals, as I've said there aren't technically any greyhounds on the property, it's not a registered trial track, the dogs live with their trainers (those that are chipped, tattooed and registered) the dogs are then taken there.
  19. Yet somehow the police, RSPCA, and other organisations manage to uncover and stop crimes every single day. Go figure! yes but they do it within the legislated powers and not by trespass and without warrant. For GRNSW to act as animal rights and animal lib have, they would have to go vigilante and vigilante activity is not acceptable.
  20. The board in NSW being stood down is a scape goat. The Minister has basically stuck it to the board and GRNSW for their lack of investigation into the matter. How can GRNSW , the police or even the RSPCA for that matter act how animal liberation and animal rights have in exposing live baiting? Animal rights do as they please, break the law and use any means right or wrong. The police, RSPCA and GRNSW are bound by legislation. it's got me beat
  21. I've been thinking about this some more and they could start by imposing the rule that no animal dead or alive is to be used on a lure, drag, flirt pole or as a training aid of any kind. All drags, lures etc can only have synthetic components. Take the dead bunnies off the tracks on trial days.
  22. Unless they can work out how to get onto private property and become one of the crowd, they have no chance of catching anyone in their own back yard and on private property. They sure as hell aren't going to catch our local trainers at the end of a dirt road, private property, one way in and out.
  23. Prey drive, live baiting and a-hole trainers are one issue, the second is that the general public require assurance that any Greyhound( or any dog for that matter ) that passes through rescue and is rehomed has been properly assessed and it is appropriate to do so. I have no idea about the number of dogs that would enter rescue from trainers who have live baited. I feel that those who do are unlikely to rehome and would probably take the simple option of disposing of them. But that said, I do know of a couple that have had live kills and have gone through the process. They were assessed as small dog and cat friendly and are living happily in their new homes. They went through a reputable rescue and foster care. A-holes and cowboys on both sides. GRA can hand out bans and the RSPCA can prosecute, reputable rescue can continue to ensure they adequately test all animals and rehome responsibly. I personally don't see the industry shutting down any time soon. really I think a few people will be made example of and life for the trainers will continue as normal and many will do as they have always done, be it law abiding or not.
  24. I'd like to know if animal lib, animals Australia and the RSPCA have their way and the industry is shut down, even for a short period of time (some are saying suspend racing for a month) what will happen to the thousand upon thousand of dogs. Those that are in it for the money aren't going to pay to feed , house and provide vet care.
