  1. I would have had you down as the perfect home for a Whippet. I don't often suggest my own breed but one would fit right into your lifestyle and they are more than happy to lay around in the house and do nothing, or be involved in whatever you want to do. Miss a walk and they don't care, miss a week and most will still happily hang around your feet. They are a little more challenging for the first 12 months but they pass the baby puppy stage and juvenile delinquent stage every quickly
  2. I walk mine. Stay away from dog parks and the like. Haven't had a parvo case in 25 years
  3. I'm not sure how they could restrict the number of breeding bitches or litters that someone could produce. Put a number on it and you will see mum with the max number of dogs, dad and all the kids with them too. I think you'll also see a rise in the number of people who don't breed, who will begin to breed on paper, dogs will technically in their name and residing elsewhere and breeding.
  4. Without the industry you don't have all of that gambling and the revenue that goes to Government, I doubt they are going to give that up without a fight, regardless of public outrage. I don't think unwanted dogs euth'd and buried will generate the mass outrage and disgust that was felt regarding the live baiting( but that's old news now), when the fact is that many people feel it's ok to dump, PTS or giveaway a dog that is unwanted for whatever reason. Country folk are still disposing of unwanted working dogs, average Joe's dogs are dumped or go uncollected in pounds and apart from the avid dog lovers, on the whole do Australians even blink when the figures are released regarding the number of pets that are destroyed each year. If they don't care much about pets and their plight, why would they care enough to do something about the Greyhounds ?
  5. Another fate that awaits the unwanted if racing ceases is to be shipped to the Middle East or China.
  6. Why not provide incentives for the owners to not even breed their bitch in the first place or purchase less pups by increasing the cost through an increase of fees to get the pups to racing status and make owners think about the pups/dog's life after racing and how much that will cost them rather than which vet they will use. Why couldn't the owner keep the dog at a spelling kennel until rescue can take it, I could see kennel owners jumping right on board with this one. That is called warehousing, it happens now with rescues across the country and it's no way for a dog to live. They are better off dead than being warehoused in kennels.
  7. I know of one, they were shot by the half dozen and buried the same way.
  8. I'm assuming that the pup changed hands twice and wasn't chipped.
  9. Because certain nutjob "rescue" groups give all of rescue a bad name by encouraging their supporters to harass trainers, spreading misinformation about the industry and treating everyone involved in the industry as if they were all monsters. It got so bad that even just being neutral on the racing issue is enough to get you abusive messages and death threats. If you were a greyhound trainer, would you invite someone onto your property to collect a dog if you knew they were probably packing a hidden camera and preparing resources to later raid your kennels and/or home? You can't call someone a murdering monster and then expect them to be willing to work with you. The abuse I copped was horrendous, despite the fact that I rehomed responsibly and had/have contributed to Greyhound rescue with $, food and donations for years. Was your experience with GAP or some other greyhound rescue. I would have thought that with GAP being a greyhound racing industry initiative that they would receive the majority of greyhounds to be rehomed from owners/trainers as the owners/trainers would be more comfortable dealing with an adoption program initiated by their own industry. GAP are lovely to deal with, I did have a dog on the GAP list but rehomed before a place became available. One particular Sydney based rescue can only be described as absolute nut jobs with many followers with many screws loose

  11. Why should it just be Greyhound owners and trainers that are singles out and held accountable for a dogs life ?
  12. There is already talk of sanctuaries warehousing of Greys. Unless "rescue" or industry funded groups have the means to rehome suitable dogs in an acceptable period of time (a matter of months) then for me it's not an option that's in the best interests of the dogs.
  13. Yes I was at the vet about 3 months ago and a greyhound breeder bought in 8 dogs to be PTS and said they would prefer to do that than go anywhere near rescue.Turns out they also breed GSD and do the same with their ex breeders rather than have any attention on them for not keeping them. It happens all the time. The two biggest rescues in NSW, not GAP, are loathed by a large majority of trainers. Seems to me that if you want more breeders to hand over dogs to rescue for rehoming rather than quietly asking the vet to PTS then you cant have a situation where the people who are doing what you ask are beaten up and judged etc. Got it in one

  15. Because the law will say they need to be responsible and each dog will have a paper trail. GRA already has a paper trail. Any retired Grey must be accounted for. If you want to bring in legislation that requires a paper trail for dogs, then this must apply to everyone. All breeders, owners, trainers and the general public. What's good for the goose is good for the gander and this includes the thousands of "pet" owners that dump and or dispose of their animals .
  16. So the dog has not been in any pain, it was given away with by the sounds of it full disclosure from whoever bred it and you want to report them for what ????? For not treating the puppy adequately while in their care. No vaccination, no microchip, no worming. It almost seems that the intention was to have the puppy put to sleep to save money. If he had been treated when it was first damaged then he would be normal now. Unlikely in a small juvenile animal. Good luck proving their intention, they may well have considered putting the pup to sleep, you argue to save money, the breeder may well argue in the best interests of the pup.
  17. Hows about if people want to be "included" in what the KC does and stands for, they get themselves a pedigree animal, join and partake in exhibition and breeding. If not, then the KC is not the place for them. The KC doesn't represent all, it's for recognised pedigree canines, their owners, breeders and their records. There is nothing to be gained from recognising cross breds in any shape or form, they are just that and the pedigree gene pool has been raped to produce them.
  18. I have a genuine question. If registration costs are raised, what makes people think that trainers will choose to rehome or place their dogs into rehoming programs rather than opt to euth as many do now? There are some that use industry funded programs or rehome privately but I've heard first hand what trainers think of GAP and other rescues and it's not positive.
  19. Well I think if you take out the gambling not that much would change for the dogs - it wouldnt be such a big spectator sport but just as tens of thousands participate in other dog sports which are not normally on the tab each week you would still get sponsors and prize money and the feelings of breeding , training and winning. They will still chuck out the dogs that dont win and they will still look for methods of training them that might help them get the ribbon. Er no Steve, 16,000 Greyhounds are whelped each year for the express purpose of the sport which is inextricably linked to gambling. So many thousand greyhounds are killed each year due to the rampant over breeding. Take away the gambling, take away the incentive for over breeding. Then you take away the cruelty and the large scale killing. Name a single breed in other dog sports where 55 of the breed are found in a mass grave with a bullet to the head or their skulls bashed in and spent cartridges and a baseball bat are found nearby? Show us any evidence at all from anywhere around the world that has already banned greyhound racing where mass killings persisted 4 or 5 years after greyhound racing was banned. O.K So you believe that every person who is currently involved in the industry has as their only incentive the fact that the dogs can be bet on? Do owners and trainers gamble on them more than the public? Im being sincere when I ask this as I really dont know. I don't know any huge grey owners or trainers but throughout my life Ive met many who owned and trained them for the love of the hobby in the hope of them winning, something to get them out of bed and be responsible for and some place to go and meet with other people etc never expecting huge financial gains from what they do - never getting much to even cover their expenses like many of the conformation show breeders. Its difficult for me to see that if the legal gambling is removed that the gambling would ever really be removed or that there are that many people who do what they do as a hobby for all the other things they get out of it would not continue on. I never bet on my own dogs. Could never get decent odds on them when I knew they were running well. The track spies made sure of that
  20. Sure they love running/racing but you can't convince me that trainers or owners have the dogs enjoyment of running at heart. If there was no money involved, you think many trainers would do it? Most other dog sports COST the owners money, not make it. I have previously stated I like dog sport. Also greyhound racing is an industry, not a hobby. I raced purely as a hobby. The only reason I am not currently doing it is time. My dogs were checked every week, attended a chiro once a week, fed on premium dry and cuts of meat, given plenty of attention (including lounge time )and given everything that my show and house dogs are. It all cost money (winning was a bonus ) just as any other hobby does.
  21. They need to start digging at Panai Ave at Yarrabar , there's 15 years of dog remains there, depending on how long it takes bone to decompose. Trainers long gone and there won't be anyone to prosecute
  22. So the dog has not been in any pain, it was given away with by the sounds of it full disclosure from whoever bred it and you want to report them for what ?????
