  1. Litter must be registered in the state in which it is whelped.
  2. Really, as the wife of a hard working Councillor I find that comment insulting.
  3. Contact Liz from the NSW FB club, she is a wealth of information
  4. black or darkish skin is often a result of previous skin trauma. If there is no itching and the skin is not raised or inflamed I wouldn't be too concerned about it.
  5. Of course there is an us and them. There are those who breed pedigree dogs and breed with type, temperament, structure and soundness in mind. They love and are dedicated to their breed and preserving the breed and it's history. These for the most part are the ANKC breeders. and then there's the "them", the one's who back yard breed, cross breed, rape the pedigree gene pool, produce the latest designer fad There will always be an "us" and a "them" and I'd rather be one of the us's any day and proudly own the "us" dogs.
  6. Owned and run by a great person who like the rest of us deserves a break and a holiday. Wait a couple of days and contact them when they are open.
  7. All those reasons. And thats why I believe allowing K.C members to breed dogs that will be in-eligible for registration would would work. An all encompassing Org. Would not be needed. The general public would have a K.C influence, and a stake in understanding the realities and responsibilities of breeding. An understanding that joe average could support. And the minute you do that everyone who is now a member because they only want to be seen to be associated with purebred dogs leave. Purebred registered breeders have been promoted as superior , their dogs have been promoted as superior - the management, the group the membership dont want to educate or support those who they believe are not doing the right thing. Hell they dont even like some of the breeders who do breed registered purebred dogs and would like to see them chucked out. Anyone can breed dogs and most can give some justification as why they do what they do but being able to breed predictable, healthy well temperamented dogs capable of breeding predictable, healthy well temperamented dogs generation after generation takes a philosophy and belief system which takes on the job of doing so as an honour, a life's work almost like a religion as well as skills, knowledge experience and education. These breeders use the registry and the pedigree system to profile their pedigrees, gain knowledge of other dogs and the health and temperament in their ancestry they put everything they have into selecting and managing their dogs for optimum health for generations to come. When this is the general aim of purebred dog registries/KCs why on earth would they say its O.K. for their members to be doing exactly the opposite and breed dogs which are ineligible for registration? why on earth indeed why undermine the very essence of what breeding should be about.
  8. I've taken bitches temps all the way through pregnancy ( every day since being confirmed and twice a day in the last three weeks ). What I have found is that somewhere with a week to 5 days to go, I get a temp drop that lasts for about 12 hours or so, accompanied by restlessness and some digging. Temp then returns to normal and drops 24-48 hours or so before actual whelping. This has occurred consistently with all of my bitches and across three breeds. I don't panic, pups will arrive when they are good and ready.
  9. It's not worth getting a vet cert for the sake of judges. I've shown two dogs where teeth are considered to be very important and some have put them down, the majority have recognised that the mouths were otherwise bear trap and you could see the angle of the canines. Had one with a missing tooth win and place at specialties too. Its not the end of the world in an otherwise excellent example of the breed. If you are battling with a so so dog to begin with, then retirement would be kindest to yourself.
  10. Bad for the dog. Dogs need the hormones to grow and develop properly.
  11. Yep, I travel over three hours to use their clinic where possible
  12. Daily check of testicles etc is overkill, I check the boys probably every couple of weeks. I put my hands on my dogs daily so I am aware of any physical changes. Why the paranoia surrounding entire males all of a sudden ?
  13. Got one of those you can have Gru , they are nuts LOL
  14. Mal or Dobe but still waiting for the "right' one
  15. If buyers don't like the hoops they have to jump through in order to get a pup from a breeder who is super selective and careful about where their pups end up, then so be it, they can walk away. Given the difficulty she's had in finding a puppy, there's obviously no shortage on buyers who are prepared to be interrogated. If the breeder wants a personal photo's, pics of house and copy of drivers licence, good on them. They may well send someone around to inspect the property and ensure all is well too.
  16. The Chi muzzle is moderately short and slightly pointed. If all you are worried about it head shape, then you are in for a whole world of disappointment
  17. You don't have SBT's by any chance ?
  18. your daughter may as well take the pup at 8 weeks and vaccinate it herself and take the usual precautions, the pup has nothing to gain from being vaccinated and returned to the mother. If the person who bred the pup doesn't care enough to vaccinate them, then it's unlikely they will be aware of parvo and the steps to take to prevent the pups from being exposed to it.
  19. why not hang on to them for the extra two weeks ?. It's in their best interests to be vaccinated at 8 weeks plus and I've never had an issue with a puppy buy when we explain why we vaccinate a few weeks later.
  20. If it's from a breeder who selectively breeds with type, temperament, structure and soundness in mind and you don't intend on showing the pup then a couple of missing incisors is nothing in the scheme of things. You need to take into consideration the rest of the mouth and if it's a correct bite and not dreadfully over or under shot.
  21. perhaps breeders have more important things to do like caring for their dogs and raising the puppies. Ring or email and if you don't hear from them, move on
  22. At the I Love Dogs Show last Sunday, I asked one of the Vets about vasectomy. The reply was no Vets do not do this in Australia. This was not for desexing at a young age either. I ended the conversation. That's bullcrap, my vet will and it costs the same as desexing at the same age
  23. to answer the poll would I rather buy Australian, the answer is no not really I buy the best food for my dogs and if it's imported then so be it, Black Hawk is pretty ordinary and being "Australian" didn't make it any more enticing to feed the dogs
  24. Dogs NSW breeders must supply papers when they sell a puppy. If your puppy is from NSW, contact Dogs NSW with the details and and copies of emails, etc and get them to follow it up. Since when as we have 6 months to register a litter
