  1. Hi Krislin, The Victorian Integrity Commissioner is calling for people to come forward - you might want to consider making a submission - and I hope you do. where did you see the call for people to come forward? Perhaps wreckitwhippet can report, every trainer she knows does it. With what evidence ? I'm sure as hell not going down a dirt road at the end of an industrial area with camera in hand to film it. I have already reported dogs not being kept to the required standard, sent photo's (risked being caught getting them). They were living in a paddock without kennels and some others were living in smaller runs, with overgrown grass and no kennels. They are still there living the same way. If the authorities want to stamp out corruption and cruelty, then they need to get off their arses and get out there, as suggested with random inspections.
  2. When you're not in it for the money and your livelihood isn't determined by a dogs winnings, then you are less likely to drug an animal, treat it with care and respect it deserves and follow the rules. I believe that live baiting is systemic and it's not isolated. I normally don't buy into animal lib, animals Australia or peta but in this instance I believe they are correct in their assumptions that the industry is rife with live baiting. I have not personally seen a live animal on a lure. I have seen them in fenced off areas and corrugated iron bull rings and at the end of slip runs. I know where it happens locally and which trainers do it, it happens on private property, it's very unlikely they would come under suspicion as far as GRNSW is concerned there aren't any dogs on the property. (not according to their records ) How do you beat the corruption, cheating and cruelty ? I would suggest that GRNSW start with unannounced property inspections. They have the power to do so. They need to go armed with the lists of dogs that should be on the property, administer random drug testing and make their presence felt. You can bet that those who are live baiting are prepared to break more than one rule, if you don't catch them for that, they are bound to be doing something else. I've seen quite a bit of owner/trainer outcry and demands for action, but call my cynical, I don't believe a lot of it is genuine. You've seen the one's calling for drug cheats and those who are baiting to be held accountable, I suspect many do so knowing it goes on in their yards and they won't be caught. ETA: GRNSW could also ban putting anything dead on a lure, flirt pole or drag.
  3. Those that think the vast majority aren't doing it are naïve, there's just not a lot getting caught doing it. It's done at home kennels, private trials and break in tracks. The powers that be jump up and down and shout that they will do this that and the other with the culprits but not a lot happens. The odd trainer is made an example of, there will be the usual sense of outrage portrayed by the racing authorities, this will all blow over as normally happens for a few years and then we'll see the next RSPCA and whistle blower footage appear. It's done to get that bit extra out of a dog. There's not a lot of reason for a Grey to chase a piece of synthetic on a stick around in a circle. They are given live kills that squeal to heighten prey drive. Do people not realise that the track lure emits a pitch that mimics an animal in distress ? Yep, people with Greys will be getting some funny looks and probably a few choice words, but they aren't taking a hit for a few, the industry is rife with it. If you know a trainer with racing Greys, there's a very good chance you know someone who does. For the record, I have owner/trained race winners without the use of banned substances, needling dogs, cruelty or the use of anything live so obviously it can be done but in an industry where race careers are so short and results are required to be instant, people will do whatever it takes at whatever cost to the animal. I believe they see it as a calculated risk, for a proven return on their investment.
  4. I beg to differ that he's the number one Amstaff breeder in the country. He churns out coarse, poorly conformed animals that in most cases barely resemble the breed and sadly he's not alone. "I've got the power"
  5. I don't live bait my Greys but I know they were all broken in with live kills. I don't know a trainer that doesn't use rabbits. What's the difference between my Whippet coursing a hare or a rabbit ( which I allow her to do ) and catching them and a race dog doing the same ? (apart from the legalities with the race dogs)
  6. It's the equivalent of me taking my car to the mechanic and he says " it's not roadworthy" I say I can't afford to fix it, drive off, have a crash and the person I injure sues the mechanic. Comes down to people, property, choices and personal responsibility.
  7. Probably bark muzzles. The US yard muzzles are fairly good (although not as good as the UK yard muzzles, which are lighter and better designed). A lot of greyhound owners here (pet owners) still use wire muzzles and honestly, these terrify me. Welds can break and when they do, it turns the muzzle into a mess of sharp wires. This is a bark muzzle. They're not all that different from the regular nylon sleeve muzzles pet owners use for things like vet visits. They work by not allowing the dog to open its mouth wide enough to bark. There are a few different styles (wire, apollo strapping and strap closure) but yeah.. same sh*t, different bucket. Oh dear, those bark muzzles would be dangerous if the dog can open its mouth to cool itself down I do appreciate that you are sharing your views that come from far more experience that I have. If the dog couldn't cool itself down it would be dead. Bark muzzles are permitted in the kennels and are safe to use.
  8. I hate being tarred with the same brush as low life scum who mistreat their animals. There are a-holes that own and mistreat dogs across every walk of life. There are those that dump and destroy for very piss poor reasons. I'm proud that I raced my dogs and will do so again with integrity and care. No drugs, no cruelty, no dumping when finished. Both of the dogs below were racing and winning when this pic was taken.
  9. I took my babies out from 6 weeks onwards. I would take them to shows and other places and allow others to interact with them. I don't believe in raising shrinking violets and the rewards far outweigh the risks.
  10. Cut the rice and veg and try kibble and fresh meat , along with no treats
  11. Not recommended for any dog and certainly not a Stafford. They thrive with a firm but kind hand, praise and working out what drives them/makes them tick That kind of attitude to a dog going to the toilet in the house is archaic. If a dog toilets in the house it's YOUR fault, not the dog's
  12. Get a belly band and start again with the training. Clean the areas and use the belly band to help you break the new habit.
  13. I do not understand why if the OP thought they were purchasing from a less than ethical breeder and had doubts, they continued with the purchase. Makes no sense to me, in the end they were prepared to look past it and get the pup anyway.
  14. I believe that Sheridan's pups were seen in litters behind a bitch called "Windswept The Snow Rose".
  15. Sheridan openly discussed it well before it became illegal to dock and I have no reason not to believe her, she had nothing to gain by discussing it. Shame she's no longer around to confirm
  16. Sheridan Pausey must have been lying when she told me about it all those years ago.
  17. One doesn't need a science degree or a study to know that canine's require their hormones to grow and develop correctly. It's not rocket science, it's common sense, take the hormones away and you are going to have issues.
  18. My experience is those that are tiny are often the pups with the heart murmurs. They are usually quite vigorous and suckle fine but fail to thrive and grow.
  19. Couldn't live with the ears or the head planes. I did see a stunning black Whippet the other day and a silver mirrored Whippet, they both rocked.
  20. you're right and lot's of people do it. They go to some extraordinary lengths to conceal it but really other people know, they are probably just fortunate that no one dobs them in. I'm not really sure what the issue is, other than possibly a money one for the CC's
