  1. My cats are planning to usurp the throne. The stray bites me if I try and kick him off
  2. I think Dr Harry would find there are a great many more dogs who sleep outside that have issues, rather than those who are indoors and close to their pack.
  3. Your vet's an idiot. It's not pent up energy causing her to "lash out". Redirected aggression often occurs with excitement, fence running and fighting. Exercising her isn't going to help stop her lashing out, all you will end up with is a bitch that is super fit and goes and goes. You need to keep the separate and seek some help from someone who actually knows what they are talking about. You will come home to find one or both of the seriously injured or worse if you choose to do nothing about the aggression now. Stafford bitches can be deadly, been there, seen it and have seen owners and dogs with battle scars and worse.
  4. Nope I don't think we are. I pay very close attention to my pups behaviours from the day they are born, it enables me to successfully pick homes that will suit and give owners an idea of what to expect. For the dogs I choose to keep it enables me to adopt training techniques that suit the individual and raise the very best dog I can. Paying careful attention to health, nutrition and behaviour in my opinion is not overthinking or over reacting, I wish more dog owners would, there'd be a lot more happier healthier well adjusted dogs out there and people might actually seek some help before problems escalate or health deteriorates.
  5. Mine go nuts for the rolls out of the glad wrap and foil, they are harder and last a bit longer but all go the same way... lots of pieces
  6. Never had any water at all in my Toledo
  7. Narrow the breeds down and widen the search, that is how you will find yourself a reputable breeder of your chosen breed.
  8. It is my understanding that the ANKC cannot be approached directly on matters and that all submissions, requests or whatever must come through the states controlling bodies
  9. It is illegal to leave your dog tethered in NSW in a public place also if the park has play equipment the dogs cannot be within 10 meters of the designated children's play area
  10. I don't refer to dogs as "companion animals" and I am not my dogs guardian, I am their owner. I refuse to buy into the AR bullcrap, although they live in the house and sleep where they please.
  11. My race dogs enjoy a good frolic in the snow, triple rugged of course.
  12. Titre test if possible, if not a C3 providing the obedience club will accept it without a CC component.
  13. If she's wanting a pup in NSWi can suggest Mahteek Deidre has pups listed at the moment.
  14. I'd suggest leaving them all at home because this is the type of attitude and actions that see those of us who do take the "no dogs' policies of others seriously , left with reduced choices as the years go by.
  15. I wouldn't be so keen to blame the hormones. Bitches in season are not usually aggressive towards males and if they are, it's telling them to bugger off she's not ready to mate. not over food. Unless she cycled every 4 months it would be highly unlikely that she is in season. In a silent season , although you might miss the blood you certainly wouldn't miss a males interest and intentions to mount the bitch.
  16. You may well find that they can never be left alone together again. Even with professional help, the best you are going to do is manage the situation and put measures in place to avoid conflict. An SBT bitch that has decided for whatever reason to fight can no longer be trusted with another dog. Dogs posture and carry on, the signs with bitches are generally far more subtle, watch for them laying their ears flatter, twitching, licking lips, staring etc.
  17. agreed, and to go one step further the breeder should have vet notes etc available to the potential owner.
  18. sometimes as very young babies slight abnormalities can be detected in pups that appear otherwise healthy and energetic, usually by the second vac or check up it can no longer be detected.. The pups that are lethargic, weigh less, have a weedy appearance and have a murmur detected are usually them one's that requiring euthing. At that age and with those symptoms, I would be returning the puppy to the breeder for a full refund.
  19. In NSW it is 16 years. It does not vary from council to council as it's covered by the CAA.
  20. Staffordshire Bull Terrier. They aren't called "the nanny" dog for no reason. They are fantastic with children and have a sixth sense when it comes to the kids, The amount of exercise you are willing to provide is enough and they love to be part of the family. They are easily trainable, thrive on reward and are agile enough for some agility. The only down side would be that they don't readily accept you not being able to walk and exercise them and that may be an issue if you plan to add to your family. If you want something a little more laid back, that will go with the flow and not be so demanding on your time and exercise requirements then a Whippet would suit your lifestyle. As Haredown pointed out they aren't natural agility prospects but they are trainable, great with kids and are happy to lay around, which is great when you have a family and the demands that go along with it.
  21. Treat your yard and gardens with lime, if you have access to under the house put it there too. Treat all bedding Flea bomb the house Treat the dog without the problem with Advantage, Comfortis or whatever you feel comfortable with and the dog with liver disease could be bathed on a regular basis with a natural flea shampoo. Get some Malaban ( from the produce store ) and mix it up in a pump pack and spray the cement and paver cracks, kennels etc. It's pretty nasty stuff but will get the job done With the lime it can be applied to lawns, gardens and bare earth, you will need to water it in and watch out for plants that are sensitive to it. You can also use Dichotomous Earth in areas where you don't want to put lime. If you have visiting cats, get rid of them.
  22. Yep another horse person. It made the transition easy, I came prehardened and ready to roll, I could also recognise a decent dog when I saw one. I didn't come with breed standard knowledge but could see good balance and movement and it made getting the first show dog a successful experience.
