Not that this has a lot to do with anything, but afaik, Greencross is owned by some vets, and is not franchised. But that information is a couple of years old, so it may have changed, but the idea was not to franchise the clinics.

I'm sorry I read this. All sorts of traumas.

No, pitbulls are banned. Time to begin alerting the public to the dangers of another breed, so they can easily be banned. Bullmastiffs seem to be IT! This dog should not be pts, the child obviously hurt him, and he didn't belong to this family. The poor child, the poor dog, and his poor owners.

That was fun. Pity the blog didn't acknowledge Stubby as a pitbull

Do You Like It When Strangers Interact With Your Dogs?
Jed replied to Blackdogs's topic in General Dog Discussion
Absolutely. What a wonderful opportunity to promote purebred dogs and good temperaments. IMHO, little beats this for showcasing a breed. -
There are some rescue cockers in Queensland looking for homes. All medium age. Please contact the Qld Cocker Club for further details.

When I have had a dog pts, I have never received any "death certificate". Just the account. Think the "death certificate" may be a beat up too

I'm not picking on her. I couldn't help noticing that the language on her page was pretty ripe, and not just from her, or about the terrible incident with her poor little dog. It's just the way she and her friends talk, but I dont for a moment think that she or her dog deserved what happened. NEVER NEVER NEVER I didn't think you did, but there were some sentiments against her and no matter who or what she is, no one deserves that - nor does the dog. Sorry if I seemed to be picking on you....and yes, she knows some b a d words, but I'd use them too. Other unfortunate thing - if he did set his dog onto the pom .. it will happen again. I often wonder how many of the dogs which escape and attack and kill other dogs have been encouraged to attack dogs on previous occasions by their owners?
-
How frightful - he set the dog onto her and her poor little dog. If this was me, my language would be worse than hers, and why not put his address on the 'net? There is no law against it, and it is sickening that these oiks do whatever they like, cause whatever damage and hurt that they like, and people still say "Oh, you shouldnt do that, you shouldn't be against him". People who now pick on her aren't much better than the attacker, imho. And of course, nothing will happen to him. His dog will probably be destroyed, although he was now sent it out of town, and he may get his hand slapped. She has to live with seeing her dog die in front of her, and not be able to save it. He'll be able to get the dog back, and keep setting it onto little defenceless dogs.

I always used to joke that if I fell over, Albert would eat me. Tralee, you wouldn't last as long with bigger dogs. And there are some cases of deceased owners in Aus being partly eaten by their dogs, particularly those confined to the house. None of the dogs were wolf hybrids. None of these cases were ever splashed all over the paper - but it was in Aus and the circumstances were different; and perhaps we have more discretion here. No one will ever know if this lady died first, I guess but it was probable, given her health, but who knows?

It's never the dog's fault, and you have to feel sorry for a lot of them ... but it doesn't help if your dog is the bite-ee. I have walloped a couple of dogs with my walking stick - in the ribs which worked like a charm. But that's not many. Easier not to walk the dogs near loose dogs these days. I think a cattle prod on a dog would have the same result as the electric fence --- scream and run. Yep, a phaser gun is the answer!! LOL If everyone had to keep their dogs in their yards there would be no problem. The occasional dog which escaped would proably not be much of a drama.

Some years ago, I had someone doing quite a lot of work on the property. He lived in a van, and the dogs knew and liked them. One of them - not a boxer - would take and hide his tools and caper (I swear he was capering) around until he found them, at which time, the dog would run around in circles, happy as can be. Of course, there were a lot of good natured threats and waving of arms and tools while this went on!! The the dog pinched one of his working boots. He couldn't find it anywhere, and if he said to the dog "where's me bloody boot" the dog would do the caper thing, and I swear, laugh while running around in circles. After a few days, the man looked in the middle of the circle ... the grass was rather long, and there was the boot!! Dog was as pleased as punch Lots of other examples, particularly from boxers.

In my opinion, some dogs do have a sense of humour. Quite a few of my dogs have shown this. And because science can't prove something doesn't mean it isn't so.
-
Might find out about the cattle prod. Some of them can have the power turned down and the charge is insufficient to kill anything. Electric fences work the same way, and I have seen dogs run into them - or lift their leg on them with no apparent injury. I don't think people should maim or kill other people's dogs but I do think sometimes you need something to ward off a dog. Mostly, shouting and appearing menacing is sufficient. Yes, I understand about not having enough hands.

Jo I'll ensure I use a plethora of words such as might could may have think consider etc etc etc. so you know definitely that I am voicing my opinion. None of the rest of you need do that, of course, I am supposed to know whether it is fact or your opinion. This, is far as I know, is a hypothetical subject - as 99.9% of them are - particularly on dog attacks. Circles. I said what needed to be said regarding my posts the first time, so I am not revisiting the revisted posts again. It's good to see you defending your relations Jo - shame you feel they need defending. So, maybe argue amongst yourselves and be happy :)

Agree with perfect partners, if you cook the chicken frames, you harden the bones, which could splinter and do lots of internal damage. Also, dogs' digestions are made to deal with quite a bit of bacteria. Give it to her raw I said the wrong thing before. When I said 'gastroplexy" - I meant, did you have her stomach stitched so it couln't twist?

Frightful. Poor woman. Scary that ....

If that was directed at me, I have plenty of respect for the police. Good ones. And I know heaps of good ones.

I only walk my dogs up my street because there are no loose dogs. Everywhere else are loose dogs. Dog savvy friend and I were discussing this the other day ... here is what we came up with. Chuck stones at the dog (doesn't work for me I am a shocking shot) Umbrella, open it in the dog's face Nasty spray (Citronella) Carry a walking stick (not a stick) - either one with a crook type handle, or a knob- mine has a knob and that gives it heft and swing. Really loud whistle I have found a combination of the walking stick and the whistle worked ok. Lots of dogs are not vicious, but when then rush my dogs, my dogs wonder about biting them, so I need to keep the strange dogs away. Rev Jo - Is there some law which prevents the use of the cattle prod? I think that would be a great thing to carry, and it would certainly slow the dog down. Only problem might be that you would stir it up enough to make it have a go at you. She walks her dogs, but it is too much for me, once I get out of my area, there are too many loose dogs. I do think it depends on where you live.

Coconut oil, or sunflower oil. Flaxseed oil is good too but mine hate it. Yes, and maybe try something other than Supercoat .... or maybe try her without kibble, just raw, eggs, sardines etc. If dogs are stressed/out of sorts, their coats wont be the best How is she going? Edited because it just occurred to me - she may be changing coat, and have a lot of dead hair. I am not sure whether she is clipped off, or you have her in show coat, or semi-show coat. If she is not clipped off, try a Mars Coat king on her back coat, or pluck the dead hair out.

BDJ, I have no idea who you are or what your angle is, but I suggest you study cases in law from courts to see what the law says on entry to property. No one has any idea what happened here, you are with the ones who say he should have shot the dog, I am not. That's how life is sometimes. Oh yes I do think the officer is a sissy - heaps of policemen would have managed the situation heaps better (and do every day) than that. Again, that is my opinion, If you think it's rude, you are entitled to an opinion. End of subject, now it is really boring, and it's all been said 20 times now.
