  1. I put this in the Breeders' Forum, but I thought I might put it in General too because I think pet owners could benefit from this too - Just letting everyone know there is a new vet practice at Wynnum - small animals only. Dr Jackie Hewitt. Best thing is the price of vaccinations and microchips $42 for a C3 vaccination and microchipping for a litter. The 10th pup is free - and it need not be from the one litter I don't live at Wynnum, and I don't breed much any more, now that I am broken, but this is such a good deal, I thought it was worth travelling for that price. And I got a free cappucino. How good was that!! Nice knowledgable vet, pups got a good vet check too. I figure all Brisbane breeders need to know about this. I think general vacs and vet visits could be a good price too. VacciVet Bay Tc Wynnum Ph (07) 31 02 39 23 www.vaccivet.com.au [email protected] Definitely has the Jed stamp of approval!!

  3. tdierx Mmm. If it attacked me, I'd bash it stupid before I even thought about it. Her dog, her choice. Dog is now running the household. One day it will, as Nehkbet suggests, bite her, and that will do for her. Her choice.
  4. In the end, I suspect, councils will get tired of paying a hundred grand to lose court cases on "pit bulls" which is happening now, and which happened in Q and which is what stopped the mass slaughter of anything and everything. I hope that day happens soon.
  5. What on earth IS that?
  6. Sandgrubber, do you only do outcrosses when you breed? (Just curious) Sandra777, in some breeds it is nearly impossible to buy a decent bitch, so you hope that the owners of good dogs will allow them to be used over your mediocre bitch.
  7. Sounds like a big worry, DD. How about some natural sedative, or discuss some sedation with your vet? Other alternative could be something to chew (pigs ear, big bone, large dried treats) to perhaps help break the floor licking. Which means, I have NFI, but that is probably what I would do in your situation. Good luck.
  8. No wonder you are speechless!! But then, when did Hugh ever say anything wirthwhile or valid?
  9. Here is my Holly boxer, now across the bridge, when she was very old, with her chook. She loved chooks. She was a special girl too.
  10. This is Dan. He is nearly 13. He belonged to my cousin, who went into a nursing home, and subsequently passed away. Dan came to live with me, showed everyone who was boss, including rude boxers, and hasn't missed a beat since. I love old dogs. They know everything!!
  11. I thought schnauzers bonded well with their owners, but were stand offish with strangers and others? If this is the case, this is normal behaviour + more so because of being an older pup and needing to settle into the new home.
  12. My apologies, the rules have obviously changed since I last looked. As far as moving stuff from breeders to general forum --- I doubt there is any problem with what you have said. What WAS the problem was rampant AR nazis moving things so they could all shoot a few arrows and rant and rage about filthy breeders. This is why many of the people who used to post there, don't now. You go for it, DD, all breeders need a boost every now and again!! :)
  13. Dacshunds are quite protective, so barking is really a training issue. My first one lived to be 23 - then she slipped a disc, and the vet wasn't keen on operating. I don't think she had been to the vet very often in her 23 years. She was determined and assertive, but certainly not aggressive. I don't think they are the kind of dogs fools should own - because they are hounds, and a big dog in a little body, with a big personality. Properly owned and raised they are awesome
  14. For a quick fix, try Eau de Canine - from good pet shops. Smell it in the shop first, in case you can't stand the smell of it. Does work, expensive to buy but a little goes a long way!!
  15. Well, I am glad I missed the crappy bits; not that I care much. For the umpteen time - working is not the issue, the issue is that people who work should have something in place for the pup so it is not alone for 10 or 12 hours a day with no stimulation. If you want to buy a pup, take it home, plonk it in the laundry or outside, and toddle off to work for 9 hours every day, good for you. God help the pup. And if you are one who cannot see the problem, and come on here waving flags and shouting abuse all you have done is reinforced that you are a poor owner. Wundahoo and I have had far more experience than 100% of you, including Voloclydes. My post was meant to be a heads up about making plans if you work and want a baby puppy. You took it as a negative about your ownership .... even though it was couched in plain English and small words which anyone could understand; because some of you wanted to have a brawl. I know about that; I've been on this forum for a long time. But a lot of you made yourselves looks stupid, and once again, reinforced to the better breeders just how many people were unsuitable owners, or would lie. Voloclydes as there are about 200% more enquiries that most purebred pups (apart from a few unpopular breeds) breeders can afford to pick and choose. I have always done that even when there were as many pups as homes. A decent rescue wouldn't let a pup go home with someone who planned to be at work for the greater part of the day, and not make arrangements for the pup. So don't bother to breeder bash.
  16. Danny's Darling - unless the rules have changed recently, you do not have to be a member of the Breeders' Forum to begin a thread. You can post there, but not join an existing thread Sandgrubber - don't worry, AR move the threads to other locations to discuss them in the lowest and nastiest terms. Oh, and anti-breeder terms.
  17. Lovely to see the photo and to know he is thriving.
  18. I would suggest to you that those dacshunds were badly bred or trained or socialised. They certainly have the outlook of a larger dog, but generally have excellent temperaments. But perhaps not, where ever the survey was conducted. Dacshunds are very affectionate and devoted, good watchdogs, with the bark of a bigger dog, and they will seek and ericate prey above and below ground. As they have no smell and rarely need washing, as well as most being personally clean, and they are certainly not human aggressive. Has there ever been a record of a dacshund attacking?
  19. Do you think only terriers chase and kill things? All hounds will kill something - give a whippet a rabbit and look out, give any hound anything and they will do the job they were bred to do. Dacshunds are more chilled than most terriers and work in a different way.
  20. Sounds as if it is all coming together. Good luck. Sometimes they don't have a sucking reflex in the beginning, particularly if they are born a little early. I think it would be a good idea to have the vet show you how to tube feed - often helps with pups who are having difficulty sucking. And many pups like that, given a caring breeder and some attention, thrive and go on to be perfectly healthy dogs. It is the decision of each breeder with each pup. My opinion is that it was my decision to bring the litter into being, so it is my responsibility to give each one maximum opportunities to thrive and grow. Pups with serious problems usually die in a few days to a week anyhow, no matter what you do. Heartbreaking, but at least you did your best. JMHO
  21. Cut and paste is your friend. And, remember, those a#@$%&^es who didn't bother to get back to you, would have been very poor homes, so some poor pup was saved from that. Some people are photo collectors too. I wonder if they paste them around their walls. I am going to write a book about them. I had a woman tell me she was looking for a pup for her 3 children, and I so wanted to ask her if she would throw a car in and then perhaps I would consider it. The one who took that cake lately - was the one who wanted photos of a bitch, then more photos, then another photo - which I duly supplied, and when I had sent about 6, he said "thanks, lovely pup" and was never heard from again If you respond badly,no matter how much they deserve it, or how much you want to, you give the entire world of dogs a very bad name, and I think we all owe it to our hobby to be better than that. I always resist the temptation to say "just truck off". Always I always think I have time to keep the dogs, plan the mating do the mating, raise the pups, do the paperwork, so of course I have time to answer all the peculiar queries I get. But I must say, they are getting more and more peculiar. I tried putting the price on the ad - they still asked how much. Ah, cousin Emmett and my sainted aunt!!
  22. I would leave them alone. If the pups are drinking and gaining weight, and the bitch is happy there is no problem. If the bitch had a retained placenta (or part thereof), there could be some signs by now. In any case, things will go wrong before 6 weeks and you will know about it. Thses vets probably wouldn't know about a retained placenta anyhow. The dew claws should already be removed. However, 1/2 the boxer breeders (including me) no longer remove dew claws since the docking debacle. I have noticed no detriment to the pups. The tails cause more problems than the dew claws. Some boxers in the ring have dew claws too, seems to make no difference to their resuls. so, please yourself. And if my vet wanted to desex boxers at 6 months, I would go elsewhere. Good luck!
  23. Without knowing all about the situation - as a breeder, I would not home a pup of that age, who has been used to living as part of a group (I presume) to a one dog household. He may improve as time goes on, but you will need to do the hard yards with him, one way or another. Good luck. It takes 3 months for a dog to settle into a new home. Some appear to settle earlier, but they are simply being polite, and they are not really settled. Some, like yours, make their unhappiness known. And I agree with what Rosetta said.
  24. This is not a baby puppy - I'm not sure of the point you're trying to make Jed. That one unhappy dog in different circumstances to the original point proves the point, and all the evidence given that refutes the point doesn't count  No same point, worse situation. Dog taken from a group situation to be the only dog without any thought given to reaction of the dog to being along all day. "Special arrangements". Everyone should make them. They might be different for every dog, but if you buy a pup to be an only dog and expect it to settle in and be happy while you work full time, think again. Exactly the same sitution. The breeder would probably have been one of the nay sayers, but now he/she knows differently.
  25. Don't blame the breeder - blame the owner for not making satisfactory arrrangements. Blame the breeder for selling a pup which has obviously lived with other dogs, and now has to live by itself, with someone who goes to work. Blame the breeder for not giving advice about how to circumvent the problem, which was sure to arise. While everyone was busily beating me up, you all missed the point of the post because you would rather give me a hard time that read and take in the information.
