  1. I have a bulldog cross and went through a stage of this when I first got him as an adult with issues. It was deliberate, a few times I'd bring him in from his night time pee and he'd go into his bed or onto mine and pee, give it back to him washed and he'd repeat. Delightful!! For us I think it was part of the settling the leadership issues that came with rehoming an unsocialised poundie. At the time I eventually threw away the bed, banished him from furniture and gave him an easily washed set of fleece blankets to sleep on. It stopped when we sorted out other things, who gets to go through doors first, being invited to share furniture, sitting to greet etc. This may not be related to your dogs situation, mine is a bit of a rough diamond but thought I'd just add in case it helps.
  2. Love it Gertrude, your photos are so dynamic. The shadows and light in the last one are brilliant. I think the gorgeous subject matter helps. Going for a little essay this week. Mmmm a real bone. Hello, watcha got? Its my bone... Any chance you want to share Thirsty work eating a bone, quick drink at the pond I have it, the bone is mine.
  3. Sadly both dogs are DA. Unfortunately with the number of off leashes in our area her owners are no longer up to walking her. She's such a sweetie to people but there's been neighbourhood complaints so we need to act.
  4. Teekay Jake loves the vets and has declared a sort of amnesty on dogs at the vets. He gets absolute peanut butter access there, it's the only other time besides when seeing dogs that he gets open slather. I also get to wait in a cubicle and we pretend the bench and table is agility equipment and he's allowed to jump up and down. Does the vet have an operating morning when there are no other dogs and you could go in and play special games, hide treats around the waiting room maybe. Take some toys in and play whatever is his favorite game? Hopefully the vet would be understanding? ETA Gosh I just realized I'm proud of Jake for something!
  5. Thanks, unfortunately I think we are her relief from boredom, but I'd really like to garden and not constantly manage dogs.
  6. Agility dogs where did you buy that gismo, after having my neighbors dog bark at me all day I desperately need one.
  7. I think I'd steal the meds myself after 2 days of jackhammering! Poor Stella but maybe it'll help create resilience is what I try think whenever bad stuff happens. I think Jake enjoyed himself yesterday, I had left his training bag outside and when I picked it up this afternoon he raced off to the car.
  8. I've not had much to do with puppies but do these guys have unusually adorable paws? I love the little one that looks like it tiptoed through whiteout.
  9. No it's been fun and I'm sure they wouldn't mind a trail of DOLers using their place as a stopover on s baked goods trek!
  10. Two staffies getting to each is not going to be pretty. I'd try really hard to not fight with the owners firstly. Any bit of help they can give is going to be better than the nothing you'll get if you fight with them. As suggested corrugated iron or a mesh fence half a meter in front of the paling fence to stop them fence fighting. Whilst you've been there longest you need to try do what's right for the dogs health and not worry about what's fair. I tend to be a bit feisty with my neighbors but have learned to dial it back and give a bit and I generally get a better response than by going in and pointing out how wrong they are.
  11. There's a very similar looking girl in the Mildura pound thread? Any chance you want another one?
  12. Ew. fear poop from a maremma, I'm guessing that's no small thing. Well Jake who is a confirmed morning pooper managed to just find some to get on to the fake grass at his first obedience lesson. I'm not embarrassed at all????.
  13. A cow, hooley Dooley!! I'm slightly envious you live where you can be chased by cows but no, couldn't cope with that. Jake just had his first obedience lesson. It's at a kennel where I used to take Hank so I've avoided going there. He started psyching himself up as soon as I packed his training bag. Barked all the way there, barked at his trainer when she came to the car!! She suggested we just walk around the paddock away from the kennels and after about ten minutes he was settled enough to roll over and play dead. We then went into a big shed and took him off lead. He was quite relaxed and had a sniff of everything. Came when called and did his tricks even managing to "go to sleep." The plan is to do obedience and have a go on some agility equipment and then hopefully he'll be so relaxed and under control and super obedient that if he sees a dog he will behave appropriately. I'm not too worried when or if that day comes, I'm looking forward to going out with him and learning about obedience. The dog thing will just happen when it happens.
  14. Yea for me that attachment period was about the three seconds it took for the pound lady to tell me he was a problem and me to set eyes on him. I'm very bad at letting things go. Unfortunately separation anxiety is quite a normal response sometimes. If you've been in one house with one dog buddy for four years and then suddenly find yourself in the pound without your mate then I think it's probably justified. Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you. Is it men in general or just your husband she doesn't like? Mine doesn't like some people. I've managed to narrow it down to loud or exuberant people who loom over him.
  15. That dose sounds light on to me, if I remember from reading it was a suggested dose if 1mg per kilo body weight. Jake started on 30mg daily but is now on 20mg per day. You might want to check with the vet? ETA...I think the nature vs nurture debate is a good one to have and there's a wealth if knowledge on this forum. Can we start a new topic and continue?
  16. Haha piggie iggies????. Poor Widget she's going to lose her pregnancy weight quickly but looks like she might need a lift bra.
  17. Oh dear I think my description of my fantasy dog may just be in that first picture. They are both beautiful, seems like it was meant to be.
  18. I started on one and a half tablets, apparently they will be very sleepy for the first few weeks anyway but it went on for four weeks so I lessened the dose a quarter tablet at a time. One a day is good but 3/4 is too little. I have his liver functions tested at 3 months and then 6 months mostly because I just panic anyway but it's nice to know he's ok.
  19. I'm wondering what he defines as an attack? It seems an awful lot of attacks on a child. If the child is at a park and a dog rushes over and bumps into her is that an attack? Possibly her fear reactions could be inciting dogs to rush at her? My dog is normally fine with people but if you yell and lean over him he'll bark at you. Unfortunately early instruction from her parents is going to be hard to unlearn.
  20. For me it ranges from kibble, through chunkers, cheese or chicken and ultra special only when other dogs are present is peanut butter. I guess if they'll train for their dinner then use that, if its for major distraction then whatever has value.
  21. Well given that the same people who traded their dogs in would probably just corrupt the next dog they got it would be unlikely to solve any problem. Would there be a limit to the number of times you can trade in a dog or maybe it'll be just a revolving door.
  22. Woa, those Mals look like wound up spring super dogs. Don't know about walking in the hat Mita but the tribe looks like fun. I love seeing groups of the same dogs.
  23. Couldn't believe I heard Alan Jones supporting this idea on the radio this morning. I only caught the last half but seriously I wouldn't have thought this idea would get any credence. Makes me wonder what other rubbish I suck up from the powers that be believing they know better. Police the existing laws would be a marvelous idea. I would support prospective dog owners having to do a short course on responsible dog ownership before being allowed to get a dog. If pet shops could only sell to people who have done the course in the last year or two would cut down on impulse buying as well.
  24. I love her grin, She's saying "hehe Dally you sit there being all elegant and dally ish I'm cuddlin on your butt!"
