  1. I was like that for a long time denali. Boys were just gross in my mind lol. I still prefer the look of girls, but have gotten over my fear of dog bits and now have two boys.
  2. I am the same as Rebanne - if the dogs ask to go out during the night, they stay out. They all hold on overnight now. :D
  3. I would also walk the dogs separately until you get this sorted. The last thing you need is for Bella to redirect onto Dallas and cause issues between them
  4. It is their right, and it's my right to think that it's crazy. :)

  6. I agree completely with SkySoaringMagpie. As a rescuer, nothing leaves here entire. I believe that all rescues should be desexed. However I own an entire dog, in fact I have two at present, and I do not believe in desexing MY dogs until they are physically mature (approx 2 years old). I believe that most behavioural problems in dogs that are blamed on being entire are actually due to lack of training. There are pros and cons for desexing and not desexing. Anyway, to get back on track, I think blanket rules in rescue are not ideal. Not every dog is suitable for certain situations, but some might be. Potential adopters need to be assessed for what they are, educated if necessary, and hopefully assisted in finding their ideal dog. Ruling out a great home just because they have an entire dog is crazy.
  7. Yep Lucy. She isn't left alone for very long but apparently she should never be alone lol.
  8. Is sas still here? I know she had a treatment plan for SA. My sister is having some trouble with her new dog.
  9. Croydon Dog Obedience runs puppy school on Wednesday nights.
  10. He was adopted before we were allowed to see him. Hopefully to an experienced person. The Mal has also been adopted.
  11. My standard poodle is incredibly dopey. Smartest dog I've owned was Maisie my working dog mix. Rupert (OES) would have to be one of the dumbest, bless him. He has a lot of trouble with every day situations, inward opening doors being a big one...
  12. I have got someone hopefully going to see him this weekend. Please people don't call or annoy AAPS because it will just get their hackles up.
  13. Cavnrott they won't give anyone any info about the dog.
  14. Sorry just to clarify, the breeder in VIC did not breed this dog but they are more than willing to help.
  15. The breeder also offered to leave contact details with the shelter (even though this is not one of their dogs) so that the new owner could call for advice. Again he was fobbed off and was told that breeders are the reason there are so many dogs in rescue....
  16. I alerted the breeder to this dog last week. The breeder immediately rang the shelter and was insulted and fobbed off by AAPS. I also told a family I know that owns a BRT but they are not in a position to adopt him. I would love to go and get him but AAPS have been incredibly difficult to talk to and won't work with rescue.
  17. Exactly! This might be their first dog, or first puppy. They sound like caring owners who are just worried for their puppy. There is no need to demand the pup back or threaten them. Why not be compassionate and understanding and help guide them through this - they are probably worried sick. They need support not criticism.
  18. I know its a hard position to be in but its not a faulty toaster, its a beautiful puppy that these people love. I wouldn't make them return it. If two separate vets find a heart murmur, then perhaps you can work out a new deal - eg. If murmur still present in a few months, refund 50% purchase price. Or tell them you will refund if they get the heart condition properly diagnosed by a cardio specialist and he says it is a serious problem.
  19. No kill to me means not killing healthy, stable animals. It doesn't mean rehoming sick or aggressive animals. I think this gets lost on some people.
  20. I work at an animal eye specialist. From your photo, I wouldn't be stressing. The front of the eye looks clear, no cloudiness, pupil looks ok and the redness is not extreme. If she is holding the eye open and the pupil is responding to light, just let her be. You can use a cool compress if she will let you. Signs to look for will be squinting, cloudiness/haze in the eye and uneven pupils.
  21. I did it last year, but I'm not a huge fan of the RSPCA so won't be doing it this year.
