  1. Unfortunately DNA tests are not always 100% accurate. Not because the DNA test is wrong as such, but because we are realising there are multiple 'strains' of a condition or multiple genes at work, etc. We have been seeing lots of DNA tested clear dogs developing conditions they have been cleared of - one breed in particular stands out. We did some probing and found out that the DNA test for that breed has been under scrutiny for a while, but this information has not been shared with breeders or vets! We have also seen carriers develop the condition. It's still a relatively new science and its so important that things like this are reported to breeders and the labs doing the tests.
  2. Have you had the cartrophen injections done? I found they helped my girl immensely, and its fine to also keep using the other medication and supplements. I would also give 1/4 tramadol tablet TWICE daily because it only lasts about 8 hrs I think.
  3. Mita, a mini bull is a miniature bull terrier. :)
  4. Henry I miss you more than words can explain. I'm so heart broken. I'm so sorry I let you down.
  5. Oh cool!!! Pity their faces look kinda Dobie. I saw an 80cm statue for sale yesterday too but it was $170. I could have a house full of sighthound stuff.
  6. Sorry to hear this. If it were me, I would remove the eye. I'm assuming his vision is already pretty crappy in that eye, with the high IOP and cataracts. The glaucoma surgery can work, but it doesn't have the best success rate in my experience and it is also very expensive. You still need regular check ups, daily meds, etc. If I was in your situation, I would remove the bad eye and keep a SUPER close watch on his remaining eye - and maybe consider surgery on that eye down the track if needed.
  7. I don't mention my entire dog to my rescue friends. :D Not worth the hassle. I own pedigree cats and rescue cats, pedigree dogs and rescue dogs. I am heavily involved in rescue, but will be having a litter (through her breeder) with my pedigree dog.
  8. I have to pluck my standard poodle's ears because they get completely blocked with hair if I don't. The hair actually forms solid balls in the ear canal if left too long. I also shave the underside of her ears because I noticed they stay cleaner and fresher this way. I guess because the air circulates better?
  9. Poppop, have you been back to your vet?
  10. Funny you say that Oso because I reckon most, if not all, of the BC and BC crosses I've had did the double suspension gallop.
  11. It's my Henry's empty cage. I can't bear to clean it.
  12. She is about 11mths old. And I think you're right Linda.
  13. Today my beautiful boy Henry was snatched from this world. He was only part of my life for 7 months but he taught me so much and was everything I ever imagined. I had wanted a Galah for as long as I can remember, and the day I brought him home was like a dream come true. He was nervous and confused in the car, but he nibbled my fingers through the carrier bars and danced when I spoke to him. It was love at first sight. We bonded very quickly but he hated my husband at first. He had to work very hard to win Henry over. Just recently they had become very close, in fact Henry loved him as much as he loved me. I let his clipped wings grow back and he loved flying around the house. His favourite trick was to land on my head while I cooked dinner. Glen would let him out of his cage when he got up in the morning, and Henry would fly down the hall onto my bed. Dinner time was always chaos as Henry tried to steal food off our forks. He was the boss of the cats and dogs, and wandered fearlessly around the house. Henry became sick a few days ago, but seemed to come good yesterday. This morning he deteriorated rapidly so I rushed him to an avian vet. They admitted him and began treating him, but he had a seizure and didn't recover. My heart is shattered into a million pieces. I miss him so much already and don't know how I will ever get through this.
  14. Underdog have classes around Melbourne. They are fantastic.
  15. Little Gifts, she is a Frenchie x Pug. :)
  16. I could kiss her face forever.
  17. This is my foster dog Pudding, having a snooze after her bath today. Pudding does NOT like baths, but they are a necessary part of her treatment for demodex. Luckily cuddles with mummy make it all better. :)
  18. These are great. :) http://www.blackdog.net.au/dog-harnesses/dog-vests
  19. I suspect that pet shop will be gone very soon anyway. A Pet Stock has now opened at Knox so hopefully that filthy pet shop will be squeezed out.
  20. I'm so sorry for your loss. What a special girl she was. RIP Ness xx
  21. I'm not sure what it's called Jules - its just a small lake in a park in Kilsyth. :)
