  1. Oh Mita! That little girl was so lucky Angel was watching. Angel by name and nature.
  2. The SBT I mentioned earlier isn't zombified at all. Def see a new vet!
  3. My brothers SBT has Epilepsy, but it is well controlled with medication and certain considerations, i.e., not letting him get too hot etc.
  4. Sorry to keep bringing BSL into it - but these are the 'hero' stories I have heard lately! : S Lilla has saved her owner, she rolls her over and keeps her there (recovery position): http://www.change.org/petitions/mayor-of-hume-save-lilla-from-a-life-behind-bars
  5. I have a 'lazy' JRT x foxy......but it's probably due to us keeping her well exercised (twice a day, combo of leash walk/off leash/run) and we have a second dog. She is a lovely little girl and great with kids, but she is still a little guard dog and NOT good with cats or anything small that runs! They are ratters after all ; P If you are looking for a calm, steady dog a JRT/foxy is prob NOT what you are looking for! Esp a pup!
  6. Oh Esky I'm so sorry. She was holding on because she wanted to come home. They are wiser than we realise. She'll be waiting for you. Sorry to hear about your other two, it could be the stress, they grieve as well. Thank you for everything you do for these little ones. Please take care of yourself, I know you must be tired and worn out!
  7. When I was reading your post i instantly thought Staffordshire Bull Terrier - smaller than Am Staffs etc, and awesome nanny dogs. Also they have the build that if they are knocked accidentally it doesn't usually even register (we had a SBT that would run flat out into a table/wall/anything when playing, shake it off and get on with it!) However you have to be comfortable with the dog, so a SBT wouldn't work for you. What sort of play would be involved? I would suggest an older dog that has been throughly tested (with a professional rescue/behaviourist), as they will be calmer. Do you have a centre nearby where you could go for a chat, meet some dogs and see how you feel?
  8. Thanks :) Yes, sadly it's the registered, visible dogs that are being made an example of The fact that he was also a therapy dog (and his separation/death has had a detrimental effect on the young girl), and thus a shinning examples of what dogs can do just makes it all the more horrific.
  9. I'm sorry that this is a little off-topic, but there was a dog called Lennox who helped his disabled owners daughter - he was her therapy dog and her playmate (her disability meant it was difficult for her to play with other children). Due to him supposedly having 'pit bull features' (he was not a pit), he was kept in a appalling conditions for two years - no visits by the family allowed. He was put to sleep recently when the final appeal finished. Many high profile dog behaviourists spoke out on his behalf (Victoria Stillwell was a committed supporter), and even offered to fly him to the US to live out the rest of his days. The Facebook group has links to a lot of the websites: http://www.facebook.com/TheLennoxCampaign I wanted to make this post as I wish to highlight the fact that even dogs that save and enrich lives can be subject to this treatment.
  10. Oh thats so lovely! She is a pretty one :) Here's to many more!
  11. Number one, looking at your pics does seem like you have your own rescue, just a permanent one ; P, also by recognising your strengths and weaknesses you help - too many people don't think about what it takes to do full on rescue and over commit themselves. You say you are blessed to have them, well they are also truly blessed to have you. Which i'm sure they show you each day in that special doggy way :) All paws and fingers here are crossed for you.
  12. Oh how gorgeous! And how well behaved and patient they are! They are so lucky to have you, they are so obviously loved
  13. So sorry, it must be such a stressful time. Please don't blame yourself for any decisions with your girl who passed, we can only do what is best and our fur babies know that. Every day of love you give the oldies is a day they otherwise wouldn't of had.
  14. My tibbie x :) Please ignore the half closed eyes, he wasn't photogenic this morning ; P Also great interview about Tibetan breeds: http://tellingtonttouch.wordpress.com/2010/02/11/ttouch-prac-sandra-klein-interviews-venerable-gonsar-rinpoche-about-dogs-in-tibetan-monasteries/
  15. Shenton Park dog rescue are awesome at matching their dogs with people. They do a lot of testing/training with the dogs and will give you a full run down of the dog you are interested in. I'd suggest your father fills out one of their applications and ask them to make suggestions. My parents (in their 60's) recently adopted a Staffy x, who is ideal for them - likes a walk but loves the cuddles :)
  16. Aw! All your family are stunning!! I have a feeling that Dora is going to be the Queen Bee with the boys  Don't get me started with the dog park issue.... My lil girl was reactive (not aggressive) with other dogs so until we worked through this we didn't go to a park, didn't want her barking/general over excitement to cause issues. You see it all the time, one out of control dog sets all the others off. In the last week I have seen two dogs that shouldn't be off lead at a park, the first owner (GR that attacked a Dal) admitted his dog had 'issues' and then one today just kept shouting at their dog as he proceed to start a number of fights over about 30 mins. If your dog has 'issues' or is having a bad day GO HOME!!
  17. Is that your dog in the avatar? They are gorgeous! One note though; one of my dogs had a few.....issues....when we adopted her (small JRT/Foxy type terrier). Number one being extreme reactivity, especially to other dogs. I didn't think it fair to disrupt someone else's walking so would cross the street. I'd have people shout across and give dirty looks as if i were dissing their dog somehow, some used to start to cross saying 'Nothing to be scared of...' Before they'd get part way they would realise why i'd crossed..........Little Girly would bark until she bite her tongue and spat blood, lunge, throw herself to the ground.......(at first this would be her reaction to people, cars, bikes, trees moving in the wind) After a lot of work she is all good now, very dog social and good at ignoring on the lead. So if someone crosses don't assume they are being judgemental, it may be their little dog that is the problem!
  18. Slightly off topic as not a comment on breed, but I have a female JRT/Foxy type x and a Male Tibetan Spaniel x. 'Aw, isn't she cute!' *at the tibetan x* 'Thanks, but it's a he, the others the girl' 'Thats the wrong way round, isn't it!'
  19. Our old Brit Staffy man licked rocks all his life. At first it was vet visits to see if he was deficit in some mineral or other, turned out he just really liked licking rocks!
  20. Mine sleep on the couch all evening after walk/dinner, then go to their beds when we go. Do I have the only JRT/Foxy x that you have to wake up?! She is a little pocket rocket when at the park, but at home her and bed are the best of friends. In the morning she'll wait until the last possible moment before getting up to come on her walk. She has also been known to play dead to avoid being made to get up......
  21. Everyone who helped this little pup should be very proud of themselves Hee hee - look at those ears!
  22. Urgh, that poor guy. To have finally found his dog and still have to go through this! If you find a dog you don't just assume it can now be yours! In his situation i would have done the same, and would now be filing a theft complaint against her.
