  1. Many thanks JRT RESCUE :D I'll speak my aunt tomorrow and see if she has a better photo of him, and also that she is happy for him to go on a website. I'll email you if all ok. Unfortunately she got him just before we moved over from the UK, otherwise I would have advised her not to. By the time we met him she had already fallen for him, but as she's got a bit older she is just getting worn down by his energy level They are such cracking little dogs, he's just not the right dog for her but he will make someone a great pet :) Where abouts in Perth are they? PM if you'd like :) Would it help in the meantime if someone popped by and ran the dog, until a home is found? Hmm....just had a thought - shenton do a 'seniors for seniors' program, wonder if they would do a 'swap' ? She'd still have a dog, but a well matched one, with a lot if support.
  2. APS in southern river maybe? Or SAFE Perth? Is there a time frame.....ie a week to find another option? I love my Jacks, awesome dogs :)
  3. Lambs fry (liver) - will stink out your house but cheap and natural! Also a liver can make a ton of treats - my two will do anything for liver! Which is kinda the point........
  4. Yep - they definitely have that distrust of strangers (like the tim span) and protectiveness. As someone has already mentioned, the lines in different countries vary a lot - from temp, to colour/coat. They are status symbols in China, a red coated sold for $600,000, I believe.
  5. They obviously recognise they are all Tibetan :D :D Mama Moocher - I think it's more profound than that. The Tibetan Spaniels are the watchdogs at the temples who stand up on the walls keeping a vigil on the town below. They alert the Tibetan Mastiffs, the guard dogs, of anything unusual or different. I blame this relationship on Puppy's fixation on larger dogs. She sees a German Shepherd or any other large dog and she is in love...this is in spite being viciously attacked by a German Shepherd when she was younger and as a result had three fractures in her back. She also exudes many of the traits of her Tibetan Spaniel ancestry, ever vigilant, a bed-warmer, and when she lived in Vietnam would hang out on her 7th floor balcony keeping watch on all below...thank goodness she must think that Kisho is a small dog in a large body as he is her fluffy Tibetan Mastiff, otherwise we might need to get one! And, yes - they aren't for all. In many parts of Asia it wouldn't be recommended to pat one. My tibbie boy is also drawn to the big dogs. Luckily they are usually fascinated by this regal little strutting dog :) Tib mastiff is my dream dog......but dream as I will need to own large grounds, not work full time, own a hydro bath and have a full time house de-hairer! ; p
  6. You've just described a lot of LGD's  All of the above is what I love about my dogs so much! And a good description of the Tibetan ; p
  7. My JRTx is a piglet. Would eat until she was sick given the chance! She inhales, no chewing and eats anything offered. My Tibetan x is a fussy little man, one day fresh liver treats will be good for training, the next only meatballs... To get him to eat his dinner I have to 'play' and train him with it, which isn't bad but I think strange!
  8. By getting help and not just ignoring it (if you could lol) you are doing the best thing! I adopted a 4 year old who would have been PTS due to her reactivity. She had been kept in a run/crate all her life so fear reacted to people, dogs, trees, bikes, cars, bags blowing in the wind......! She would bark until she'd bite her tongue and be spitting blood I found the hardest part of training was other people (ie, an older gentleman who wanted to show me how to pin her down and called me stupid when I explained she was terrified and I use positive reinforcement) In three months she went from almost continual barking to a happy, relaxed and friendly dog :) We even adopted another dog and they get on amazingly. Sorry for all the waffle, my point is you are doing the right thing by seeing a professional and to try and ignore Joe Public if anyone tries to interfere! Also for the pulling try a front leading harness.
  9. Tibetan Spaniel wise - grooming is needed often, no cutting but brushing. Tibs in multi dog households get knots and matts behind their ears from playing which have to be dealt with ASAP or you end up with a clump. Also they do lose their undercoat so expect tibbie tumbleweed! My tib plays and keeps up with my JRT :)
  10. Hi - I don't know about the breed, however excessive tears can be from ingrowing eyelashes. Good pet supply shops sell tear stain solution to clean :)
  11. [quote name='stans mum' timestamp='1348128279' If he was running around in a storm and trod in a poo that would be his worst nightmare Seems Stanley and I share the same nightmare ; p
  12. Typical male - nothing disturbs nap time! ; p
  13. Sorry to hear you have to do this, it must be heartbreaking. No one can judge you as you are doing all the right things - contacting breeder, desex, etc. Are there any generic gun dog clubs around who may be able to help?
  14. This is horrible.....hope it's a fake.... I think the WA RSPCA should be alerted...
  15. I know, I know, Teebs. I feel your pain. I really, really want 10 tibbies, too. :) Whenever I suggest a 'herd' of tibbies I get an eye roll from the other half.........and from the JRT ; p
  16. Why???? Because you will have a mis match of energy levels, I've seen this a couple of times. Dogs end up being separated or the older one being bombarded by the pup. Bear in mind the OP works full time, so they will be alone together a lot. If there are other distractions around it probably wouldn't be as much of an issue.
  17. I'm going to say Tibetan spaniel.......but then I'm biased because I have a young tibbie with my older (5) JR x girl :) To be honest I think when you already have a dog it is more about the temperament than the breed. Our girl picked the tibbie out :) Maybe when the time is right visit a rescue and let the dogs have a meet, then foster and if all good adopt! I wouldn't recommend a puppy with a 10 year old dog.
  18. Yep, same here, wish him the best. Maybe if he is buying a home he could speak to some boarding kennels? They may give a very reduced rate for a long stay (I know of a kennels who did similar here)
