You would just be mad to do it I think. Yesterday I took Gus to the park and had a guy with a wonky looking shepherd x ask if I was interested in 'going halves in some puppies' when Gus was older. I was aghast and just managed 'good god no' haha. Not only is he just on 12 weeks but there wouldn't be any benefit to anyone, let alone the puppies. Shocker.

Yvonne! He is just beautiful, how do you even leave for work? I'd struggle! Anyone else's puppy just love love love doing gross things in front of other people? Gus has taken to cleaning tall dogs whizzers down the park. He's just at the right height for it and can't seem to help himself. Other than that we had a real breakthrough with leash walking and recall on the weekend, The Gremlin has been a bit of a monkey on leash and everything is new and exciting and needs sniffing or to stop and have a look/taste and heaven help you if he doesn't want to walk/wants to see the other dog over the road! We've been working hard on it though and find training him to walk on a loose lead is much easier if he's tired, when he's a bit worn out I find I get more chances to reward him for the right stuff, rather than reprimand reprimand reprimand, so we've been wearing him out before a walk, which sounds interesting, but took him out full of beans on the weekend and he was much MUCH better than he had been, so seems we're making progress! He's also stared recalling even under distractions, a lot are still too exciting, but he will come back from other people and dogs most of the time, which is nice. We thought we'd give it a go in the park where it's secure but still a nice challenge, he did well. I'm like a proud mother! Haha. -
I hope since OH is so devoted he was up doing the 3am wees? :p That doesn't seem to be how it works here, Brooke is fun dad, not pee/discipline/cleaning up dad.

He is a real spunk, so funny today. Gave up on the cold and took himself off to bed, which was super adorable and a welcome respite today while I cleaned up his weeks shredded junk mail and discarded chews. Haha. -

I think I have found my favourite photo of Gus Yoghurt nose! Here's some others, I was meant to be cleaning up but the clown of the house distracted me being so funny. The look of guilt suggests he knows that's a cat toy... Growing like a weed (and the background promises I was cleaning, though most of that has been reclaimed from Gus. Slightly possessed by his noms. Bump head. 'Bully sticks are made of WHAT?!' I think he'd had enough of the damn paparazzi. -

The dog isn't being PTS as a punishment. How ridiculous. Leave it be.

Do you think it helped? I'm glad I'm not alone! Hooraaaay little guy! I can see why he mightn't want to go out, once he starts going out you'll be right, it's just a bit of a battle getting off the starting blocks. -

It sure didn't hurt I guess? Plus men seem to have a primal urge to pee outside, so everyone wins I guess? Make sue he's downwind from puppy though. Haha. -

I was in disbelief really. And then fits of laughter. He's definately the softer one of the two of us and Gus has worked that out and takes a bit of advantage, I have to toughen him up a bit. Ooooh we don't get that cold! I would be throwing him out the door and hoping for the best! The worst was a few weeks ago when it was frosty and I walked on the grass in bare feet and stood in a semi-frozen poop as well, insult to injury! I had to wash them in the tub while pup went back to bed, I could hear him snore from the bathroom, little beast. -

Will you think of that at 3am while running for the loo though? My neighbours, lest they ever look over the fence at night might be treated to me in my undies and a hoodie hopping from foot to foot almost squealing the wee command. Hahaha. I am a gift. Beats boyfriends idea, he thought you should show puppy where to wee, I will never forget the day I looked out the kitchen window to see them side by side, both peeing into the wind. God, we're such bogans sometimes. Hahaha. -

Yeah we were pretty exhausted too. You learn to sleep light haha. As soon as Gus woke up or stirred we would bolt for his bed to take him out and wait, which is not fun in the dead of night through Winter. But he did get it fast and now free ranges at night with no accidents, he will whine at the side of the bed to go out for a pee now. I think the key really is pre-empting it, if they don' get a chance to do it, there's just no other option I suppose. Is he going before bed as well? I found Gus COULD do a wee every hour when asked, he could hold it for 2-3, but we were up a lot those first few weeks. Shudder to think! I'm still catching up on sleep now and it's been weeks! -
It just seemed odd they appeared to be ragdolls, cavs and pugs who I know are pretty big pet shop winners. I don't imagine too many litters of pugs, cavs and ragdolls come through GAWS and all at once? It just rung alarm bells, but hey, still happy to be wrong!
-
I had a laugh at someone who bought one for a new puppy saying surely they couldn't do any damage to it. Gus had a cheap one til we knew he wasn't a bed chewer. That and it was the only one in his size, not ideal but I'm not finding much better in xxl online.

I don't blame them, and a shelter can't be the best place for youngens regardless, still, the sight of those cubic glass pens leaves me cold! Haha. Might have just been a kneejerk reaction to that I guess!

Here We Go Again, This Time Sa's Turn?
Steph M replied to luvsdogs's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'm waiting til the 9 months as well, I would be quite happy to sign a council desexing contract and pay a refundable deposit and have that back when I desex, and those who don't claim it back perhaps it can be donated to shelters? I don't know what the answer is, obviously not everyone would be happy to do that, or could do that and this is purely coming from my position as someone who intends to desex our critter regardless. No idea what the answer is, but 12 week mandatory desex sounds absurd, plus the more you push something out and try quash it legally, the more it will head underground. -
Cool, well I am happy if you're happy! Thanks for the clarification. :) Hope I haven't offended or anything!
-
I hope so! I'd like to assume I'm wrong, just seems odd. I have never seen a puppy/kitten in the store, now to see 10 or so behind a locked door. Like I said, sure hope I am wrong. Just wondering is all.

I just ambled into a pet shop near work to get Master Gus a big boy bed and some stuff, because you can never have enough puppy 'stuff', I thought they looked pretty good, a few adult rescue animals in big runs and the like, lots and lots of 'adopt don't shop' things and oscars law posters (i know, i know, but the sentiment is there) so found a bed I liked ($225) and some other assorted bits, but happened to walk past the staff only door, which was open and saw the typical glass pet shop cages with 2 litters of puppies, cavs and pugs by the looks, and another pen of Ragdoll kittens. What the?! They clearly weren't selling them there, I walk past daily and have never seen pups or kittens for sale in the store, could they be holding them for a parent store? I found it so disappointing and told the girl so as I handed back my $250 worth of shopping. She tried to say they were all rescues, but I doubt that somewhat. So, does anyone know if they are a subsidiary of PP or someone similar, or just dodgy? I know I should have thought first, but I thought I could get my shopping done and be off. Alas, I will be doing that online/locally. http://www.petsco.com.au/html/adoption.html I find the illusion of trustworthiness more offensive than the lack thereof. I could be wrong though, and they could be rescues and would love to hear that's the case, but I just don't buy it.
