  1. http://www.champdogs.co.uk/ That is a good site to find breeders. http://www.the-kennel-club.org.uk/services/public/psar/ the kennel club site is the obvious one and will list breeders who have just registered litters with them.
  2. All my schnauzers (except for the one I bought in who hasn't got the out going slightly fiesty temperament i asked for!) are all active dogs, enjoy doing agility and running around the beach and fields etc but are calm in the house. Maybe she would consider the next size up? The standards can be more pushy to be the boss, or even a giant might suit, these are lively dogs, mine love to play fetch but will stop when I've had enough and they enjoy all sorts of dog sports
  3. I would like to take my oldie swimming but the cost is just to much for it to happen often enough to be of any benefit. She no longer goes on regular walks as she was coming up lame so often. She is also a bit wobbly on the back end and has lost 2kg in muscle mass, mostly from the rear, although some from her shoulders and head to (but that can only be felt, not seen yet). She seems to have a nuero problem with the rear end as I can turn her back feet under and she doesn't put them back immedieatly like a younger dog would. But, she still likes a game of fetch and the occasional trot around off lead so long as she can stop and rest every so often
  4. at good on line shop with less overheads....... Oakway, that is what pesh is asking for - good online store for best price on decent shampoo brands. ie someone says www.bestpriceforFidos.com for cheaper fido s'poo or www.cheapCCproducts.com for chris christien products.
  5. I'd shop around for another vet at those prices! I've never paid more the £100 for a lump to be removed - heck I didn't pay more for a cancerous growth causing a toe to be removed.
  6. USA isn't in europe! Clippers used on a faster speed will heat the blades up faster, so there is more potential for burning if you don't keep checking the blade often
  7. If I wanted that breed from that breeder I would stay in contact and wait for a pup at a later date or suggest a co-ownership of one of the older dogs. However, the breeder got themselves into a corner by agreeing to not use dogs on the puppy that the stud owner didn't agree to - just whos breeding program is it anyway??
  8. I'm just going to wait and see, because it is a good time to have a litter, she will probably be awkward and not have any!
  9. The limit register thing wouldn't bother me as all pups have a breeding restriction put on them when registered (the difference here in the UK is that is can be lifted by the breeder at any time in the dogs life). I have my own theme for a litter, so wouldn't want to have the sires name as apart of the pups names, it;s a bit like having someone elses vanity plate on your car! lol
  10. puncture wounds can heal at the opening and trap an infection deeper in the wound where you can't clean it properly. Anitbiotics are a good idea for this type of wound, so I would go to the vet.
  11. A shampoo that gets rid of fleas will only kill the fleas on the dog at the time of the bath, it isn't a preventative treatment, nor does it treat the environment the dog is living in.
  12. I often take out 5 at a time, on lead it would be 2 Giant schnauzers on one side and 3 minis on another, anymore and I find the leads get to tangled when I have to stop to scoop the poop! Off lead we go at quiet times and stick to quiet routes. It has been fun when we have met up with others for group walks when there can be 10 - 15 dogs or more running around together - an especially good sight when they are all the same breed
  13. Last time I had a hire car I did ask them what their policy was for dogs, they said that pets are not allowed in the car BUT if the car is returned in a clean condition, then they will not know if I had my dogs in the car.
  14. As an update to the thread mentioned above She wasn't in whelp from the mating that happened after the Alizin injection. In the end, I decided to just let nature take its course. Last year she had her final litter without any problems.
  15. What about an Irish Water Spaniel? There are a few litters of those around atm.
  16. There are bags specially made to carry the full poop bags until you are near a bin.
  17. But do stick around the forums and learn more about the various breeds and see which maybe suitable for the type of pet you are hoping to live with. Find out about health testing for those breeds and how to find a reputable breeder.
  18. and then the parents are most likely NOT health tested for any hereditary diseases - and no 'hybrid vigour' does not stop hereditary problems in dogs of mixed breed heritage.
  19. Might be a big dog/little dog thing? If ours aren't being shown, they stay home with a dog savvy house sitter when we go away for the weekend. As we have an old companion dog, there's always someone that needs looking after so an extra dog isn't a big deal. For me it's too much hassle to take a medium sized dog away if you're not going to show it, particularly a moody Saluki bitch We only have 4 dogs, and the oldest is only 6 and a half so all are very capable of being shown - when the oldest gets to be a real geriatric things may change lol. But I think we are also very lucky - none of our girls get moody (touch wood), and even my boy doesn't pay much attention until after the bitch starts flagging. If they were moody or difficult to handle etc then it would be a completely different story and I would definitely not show if they were not up to it (or if it was going to be pointless ). They have these things called 'Boarding Kennels' so you don't have to take an inseason bitch on a long journey to a show, there are even pet sitters and even good friends who can dog sit for a few days while you are away. There is no need to take a bitch like that. I have taken mine away for a w/e of shows and she came into season on the morning of the 1st show, so I drove home instead of going to the show. Showing a desexed dog doesn't interfere with the ability of others to show their dog to the best of their ability.
  20. Desexed dogs can still mate and tie with a bitch, so keeping them separate during seasons would still be a good idea
  21. Try using the leg of a pair of tights to hold the ears back,
  22. I have Mikki ones that I use in the shop for the last several years and they are still working well.
  23. She's on day 11? It may just be too early for her. The girl I just mated wasn't ready until day 13/14
  24. It happens! (the first bit, not necessarily the BIS girls!)
  25. Miniature Schnauzers due about 5th April hopfully. She had to have kennel cough vaccine for trip to kennels and there is a risk from that, that she may no longer be in whelp.
