I know they can't be shown, that;s why I was also asking about other dog sports where they maybe competing - or can;t an unrecognised breed do any competitions over there?

Some friends will be in Australia for a long month and would like to see a dog show or two, so I said I would help find out some info for them. Can people recommend dates and venues of shows coming up (and where more info would be available about the show) They are gundog people with Irish Water and Curlies, so I also wondered if maybe there was something going on with the Murray River Retrievers that they might be able to attend to find out more about? They show, do a bit of obedience and gundog work too, so any suggestions I can pass on for things to do while visiting over there?

Can you put lino down in one of the bedrooms, have the puppy pen in half of the room and a lower panel so mum can get out of the pen but the room door closed so she can't escape from the room? (or maybe a couple of baby gates across the door if you need air to circulate.

mince and goats milk until sloppy, never had a problem starting off pups this way, esp as they don;t seem interested in a more dry version. 1 meal for first day and depending how well that goes down, adding extra meals as and when over the course of next week or 2

i'd try her on 2 meals a day giving 600g in each, just tricking her with a little more split between 2 meals might just get the weight up a little

you could always look at fostering or puppy walking or maybe taking on an oldie - some rescues will consider older dogs as permanent fosters, so they will pick up the vet care bills for them

Websites are hardly ever going to have all the information you want on a single page, and you're going to have to click to see other information - it's why we were born with fingers! it's a wasted click, just to see an arty photo or annoying bit of animation you have to wait to load, just so you can click on what you actually want to see on the website.

Things like insurance would surely be easily seen on the computer screen with the clients notes on?? A $1000 difference is quite marked for similar problems and surely the family would have discussed if the treatments had been that different to warrent such a difference in price?

My vets have 2 or 3 vets on duty at a time and the waiting room is a converted garaged that used to be the dog ward ages ago, seat are arranged in a W shape making 2 bays, so you can normally get away from the numpties by sitting in the 2nd bay. The waiting room is nearly always packed, especially when one of the good vets is on duty (you can tell when the numptie vets are working, as there is practically no one there! :laugh: If I am taking a particularly ill or young dog/pups to the vets, then they will wait in the car, where they won;t get harrassed or pick up something else. Why didn't you just ask her to move her dogs?

Just want to clarify that Im not importing a dog. As much as i would love to. What I was saying (and I think I didn't explain real well) was that I want to import LUA semen, use it over an aussie bitch and hopefully end up with a LUA bitch to start my kennel with. All of that would be up to chance, as a LUA/HUA mating would result in a 50:50 LUA/HUA split and then the male/female issue. As such, it would be a few years away yet! yes, that is why I suggested you bring in a bitch instead, then you can cut out that first generation of risk and start off with a LUA foundation bitch who you can breed to the best available male.

I love red dogs, so of course have breeds that don't come in that colour! :laugh: For me though, deep brown eyes are more important, I don;t like the yellow eyes seen in some dogs, or the blues or split colour eyes. The black greyhound above is lovely, except for those yellow eyes

being new to the breeding side, I think I woul bring in a bitch and then I can use my knowledge and mentors to chose a suitable stud for her from Aus, simply so it can all be that bit more hands on about chosing a suitable stud to match the bitch; it is a lot harder to look at studs when they are in a different country and you are just going by photos or video. The other thing with a bitch, you can have a few tries with different sires or even do a dual sire mating, so I think your options are more open then just importing semen from one dog I have imported a male and 2 bitches and all has gone OK with them - the first bitch was a little overawd about being part of my pack and is much happier now she lives elsewhere

Now, I like Bulldogs but I think they have gone to an extreme - they look nothing how the dogs of the time the BS was drawn up looked like, and no one seems to wonder if the dogs of today are actually what they people who drew up the BS had in mind for the breed.

What's the fuss? Is Quantas the only airline that will carry dogs to Aus?

My vets won't give out oxy shots to have at hand, hence going to the vets for a check up later on in the day.
