  1. but this is about using it on white terrier coats instead of bathing the dog before show day (well that was the argument for allowing chalk - note is says powders are still not permitted!) Not supposed to be for the lakies etc that need colouring in before going in the ring or the bull terriers that need thier faces painting white...
  2. Interesting dark eyes give soft expression and yet dark eyes are wanted in guarding (not guardian!) breeds when you think a harder expression would be of more use?
  3. That is a bit unfair, white dogs only. I see the ban on hairspray/chalk has been lifted HERE It is supposed to be about the white chalk used to clean the coat and then be brushed out - not the coloured chalks used to decieve what the real colour of the dog is
  4. http://www.woodhavenlabs.com/mismarks.html more mismarks on the link above over a couple of pages.
  5. Thornit powder for drying ears, just a pinch into the part of the ear you can see
  6. just been to look up about the panda shep and found this The Panda Shepherd Dog is a piebald German Shepherd which has occured in a single GSD bloodline. It is 35% white, the remainder of color is black and tan. It is a spontaneous mutation and has no White German Shepherds in its ancestry. The parents who produced the black/tan/white female puppy were a purebred black German Shepherd dam and a purebred black and tan German Shepherd sire. The rest of the litter were standard looking black and tan German Shepherd pups. The sole black/tan/white puppy also had two blue eyes. In order to protect the image of her breeding program the founding breeder, Ms. Cindy took the piebald puppy to Ohio State University Veterinary Hospital for genetic DNA testing to find out the exact cause of the anomaly. The parents of the pups were confirmed as purebred GSD's with no White GSD's or other breeds in their lines. This was a purebred GSD who was born with piebald coloring. The same sire and dam who produced the piebald puppy were bred three more times and all the pups were born with the traditional black and tan coloring. A lot of canine genetic coat color testing was done on the piebald puppy who was named Frankie. When Frankie matured she was bred to a traditional colored black and tan GSD. Out of the four puppies born three turned out to have black/tan/white coats but lacked the blue eyes, while the fourth puppy was the traditional black and tan coloring. The black/tan/white German Shepherd dogs were given the name Panda Shepherds.
  7. Found this pic on the GP UK website history of the breed. Interesting to see a pepper/salt or 'silver' german pinscher - the result of using schnauzers in the recovery of the GP breed after the war when only 2 were thought left in the breed. One breeder tried to breed for the silver colour but it apparently isn;t around in the breed now.
  8. Are white schnauzers white because of lack of pigment, or because of a pale ee expression? They have pigment and like a lot of white dogs, can have some biscuit colour to the top coat.
  9. Anyone who wants to come and say hello, I will be showing 2 mini schnauzers on the friday (my boy comes back to the UK for Crufts so his previous carer will be showing him) (hall 1) and I will be showing my young giant schnauzer on the sunday (hall 4) Crufts is even bigger over the last few years as they opened up 2 more halls. Not sure what 'general specials' are. But it is free to go watch the groups each night, except for the final night when it is followed by best in show. I recommend a day for getting your barings and shopping and other day(s) for breed stuff.
  10. the recently (to aus) recognised white miniature schnauzer This is my young bitch Fria.
  11. I'm going to add this from the old thread, simply because I was talking about this colour to a flatcoat friend recently, so sent them the pic yellow flatty
  12. as per suggestion on the old thread here http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/208460-rare-or-disqualifed-colours-in-breeds/ starting a new topic, as the poodle colour threads have been very interesting. Plus i am a bit of a fan of the not so common colours in various breeds. As with the old thread - share your pics of these dogs.
  13. As I said on the other thread, the partis and phantoms can be registered in the UK and as we don't have any disqualifying faults, such a colour could be shown (although not likely to place as it has a non recognised colour) maybe we should dig up the old thread about unusual colours in breeds or just start a new one? i find it intersting to see golden flatcoats and red bostons and brown n white newfs etc and the genetics and breed history to go with it.
  14. I would wait until his meds have kicked in properly and then go see the vet again to discuss options, 11 can be old for some dogs in a breed and young for others.
  15. I'm just wondering if working line pups mentally mature faster then their show line relatives? I know there will be variation across the types, but in general? My 11 month old giant is still very puppyish in a lot of ways but can do some lovely work when she's concentrating.
  16. i know how you feel, the one this happened to was my import in whelp bitch, with a mating that couldn't be repeated - so i had everything crossed it would work out ok!
  17. and just what should a breeder do with any that aren't born with perfect conformation?? Assume that the pup is definitely showing timidness/nervousness. In what breed is that correct or desirable and who would want to own a dog like that? It has been said the pup stays away from one child - to me that doesn't mean the pup is timid, could just as easily mean the kid has been mean to the pup and it has learned to stay away from child. If pup is generally otherwise fine, then it really wouldn't worry me to buy such a pup. As for the mouth issue, if it was that bad 1cm at that age, then i would offer a bit of a discount, but as others have said, it often causes no issues in later life and if undershot, it can correct, mouths can do odd things for several months or more
  18. can't he take dog with them? I don't think it would be dificult to fly it to austria
  19. just to clarify, are you saying the whites aren't so white right after a bath or that the whites get grubby quickly from his life style?
  20. I had this with my white litter about 10 days before they were due. Vet didn't give me anything for her - just a wait and see or we could go in and get them options! The whole litter were born alive a couple of days after their first due date.
  21. if price is a problem, what about a food with rice as a filler instead of other grains? My wheat gluten intolerant girl did great on lamb and rice food (now gone to barf)
  22. I have pups in the lounge as I found my girls will stress if put out in another room for quiet time with the pups, they end up trying to get back to the pack! Also have you checked something simple like the pups claws if they need cutting or they maybe scratching her as they feed.
  23. A bit of planning and a chain lead would have stopped all that.
