Here is a link for Manmat boots which are used by many mushers, these are probably a good option that are reasonably priced. Ruffwear make some very sturdy types and should be available at quite a few local retailers. http://www.kickscootersydney.com.au/?q=content/manmat-dog-booties-comfort If you wanted to shop offshore there are numerous options available.

Meh, more fussy Momma not wanting to touch offal or liver  I must admit, I don't like handling it either. Luckily my wife cuts up the portions and puts them in the individual freezer bags with the kidney, so I can be a wimp and just empty from the bag :D
-
It should cover it, maybe add the liver at brekky with the drumstick Just confirming, you serve the liver frozen? I dont have fava beans as a side dish ...with a nice Chianti  But yes, sometimes frozen sometimes thawed. Frozen can be more readily accepted if the dog is a bit fussy with raw liver.

Which Breeds Do You Wish Were In Australia?
Yonjuro replied to Kavik's topic in General Dog Discussion
Agree with that it is more as barker. :) But laika is also - Husky. What you seen in Kamchatka is real Mckoy of Husky. Out ther development and breeding of the breed is never stops according to local needs. They are more stronger, great stamina, can withstand very low temperatures, great hunters, etc... They probably are far more superior to Australian Huskies in qualities they need to live in Kamchatka. Local Husky in Australia is rather a show dog. While I agree that Volk is probably mixed, I asked them if he was a Husky and this is what they told me, no it is not a husky it is a Laika. So they seem to draw a distinction. My wife has a friend who races huskies in the Beringia so my info comes from what I have been told by hunters and professional racers, some of her sled dogs look like mine and others look very different. While I agree there has been a disheartening trend to breed shorter legged huskies for show in Australia, this is not always the case. My boy comes from racing stock and has nice long running legs. There are a number of breeders that bring in huskies or frozen semen from long running Iditarod champions as well. I am a born and raised in Siberia in small village where every one is just had to be a hunter. Locals you been asking most likely never heard of the name Husky. Have to say Laika is a great hunting dog specialising in Sable and Squirrels, but the same type of dogs using by local Yakuts and Chukchi to pull their luggage. Huskies that is. :) Yet to become a laika dog(any dog) just had to be a good hunter. Due to the climate conditions and demands for local dogs most of them are huskies. Also, you might want to read this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laika Laika too mate! :) P.S. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Laika-the-Husky/154059347981478 The local I was speaking to is my brother-in-law and he certainly knows what a husky is. Anyway, I don't need to read a wiki article on the Soviet space dog named Laika to qualify the info I got nor do I see the relevance to hunting dogs and pulling dogs. I also don't see how a Facebook page about a Husky named Laika has any relevance mate :D Either way, this is now veering too far off topic mate! :) -

I think the owners who are experienced hunters in Russia would know what their dog was LOL. By the way I am a Husky owner and this was not a husky. According to my wife who's first language is Russian Lai is bark and Laiker is barker. -

Here is a shot of me with a lovely Laika named Volk (Wolf in English) in Kamchatka - Eastern Russia. He was a brilliant dog that would bark when bears were near. Laika means bark :) It was great to have along as there were many many bears. -
This loose stool could be just from the newness of adding liver or if there is no bone to balance out the meal. I am not sure if there was bone in the meal so I am only guessing :) Looking forward to seeing some pics - not of the poop though :D

Remedies - Have You Tried Any And Had Results?
Yonjuro replied to a topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I am interested to find out more about this. Do you have any links for these product/s. Was the calming spray the same product you mention first? -
 Spooky. Yup Ronin is full Sibe, I have his full pedigree history as well. But I have had a few people initially think he is a Mal. Let us now how you get on with the toy. :D - yeah at one point Ronins canine was up my nose LOL. And I must say that I don't normally let him get away with eating my face  I was trying to capture his vocalisation that normally happens at pre-bone time, but lying back with one hand on the phone camera was too tempting for him.

From my research the K9+ seem to be among the least expensive and also seem to be the best. Unfortunately I can't comment on the really cheap ones you find on the net.
-
My dogs Loooooooovvvvvvveeeee their Chuck It Kick It ball from K9 pro :) Oooh that's good to hear! I also shouldn't reply in the forums when I'm trying to get back to sleep, I didn't even notice that autocorrect had changed Ronin's name on me Hahaha, I know what you mean LOL, and don't worry I thought Auto-correct had changed Ronin to Robin

Thanks for the kind comments about my boy :)

Do any of the ones you mentioned have squeakers? Ronin is not ball mad, but he likes ones that he can get his mouth over and squeeze with the bounce back pressure.
-
Is that as well as the Augustine products too,Yonjuro? I am liking what I am reading. A corner appears to have been turned. Horrible Herbert is not eating poop any more. Paws crossed it was just a fad. :) Yes it is :) I will say that I don't know if it is necessary but for me if it aint bloke don't fix it. The AA super boost is pretty cheap to feed anyway. Hopefully this little bit of info on what I feed won't turn into a heated debate on the merits of AA though :) That is great news that Horrible Herbert is not eating poo anymore Did I hear AA mentioned? :p actually, I was referring to Aged Antelope and definitely not that supplement that shall not be mentioned :D
-
The squeaker went in 20 minutes on the first one I bough so I took it back the shop as it wasn't chewed up, thankfully they exchanged it. Ronin is pretty good with his toys and doesn't usually wreck them. Squeaky toys are seldom husky poof though and will be interested in how long it does last.

How weird.

I bought one of these for Ronin today and he went nuts over it, this is after the first half hour frenzy. I've now had to trade him a fresh meaty bone to take it away for the evening :D
-
I know that lots of hunters target feral goats so if you have no luck then you may know someone who knows someone that you could ask. Otherwise lots of Italian butchers stock it. I know a specialist pet meat place over here also stocks it so I would think there may also be places in SA that do the same. Goat is an excellent meat. Raw green goat tripe is also top stuff.

I also add probiotics to Ronins diet in 2 weeks on 2 weeks off cycles. So it might be worth considering this?

I am very interested to hear more about Rescue Remedy. The small amount of info I found made Dr Bach's claims to be highly questionable to the point of being completely false. However I am still having problems with my boy with car travel so I am open to considering it again based on opinions here. Happy to hear from others about this before I decide whether $20 is worth a punt? -
Hi Yonjuro Dalmatians can only have a low-moderate purine diet. Every Dally has the gene with a propensity to form urate stones. It's kind of like gout in humans. Anchovies, sardines and tuna are all higher purine than salmon according to my sources. I feed my Dally a really good quality chicken based dry (Artemis) plus chicken frames and healthy treats. I don't feed organ meat (especially liver), beef or lamb as it is reportedly higher in purine content. Brewers yeast is another problem ingredient in dry dog food. Eggs are brilliant! Raw salmon would be fine but I have only used tinned salmon as a treat so only specified tinned. Raw salmon for human consumption is bloody expensive where I buy it from  Hope that clears things up. It certainly does TSD, many thanks for the explanation I really enjoy learning things like this And yeah, I am yet to buy fresh salmon for my boy yet! I was thinking salmon or crocodile for his upcoming birthday meal though :D
