  2. You won't have to wait long as in summer in WA I have found the coconut oil will always be liquid :)
  3. Oh dear, I am so sorry. Maybe say to your 3 year old that doof is very old and tired now and he wants to go to sleep forever and have nice doggy dreams?? EDIT; Others have mentioned the sleep thing may not be a good idea and comments about this make sense. My daughter was 5 when our last dog was PTS from age related illnesses. We said that she was very old and tired and that she had now gone to doggy heaven where she could run around chasing rabbits My daughter was a bit upset but got over it very quickly. Sometimes she will mention about Tessi chasing rabbits but not in a sad way.
  4. Hiya Check out this breeders page from this site for a starting point. http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/dog-breeders.asp
  5. What seems a bit weird is that this happened at a park (soccer fields), I would assume that most of the area to be grassed A concussion is certainly possible on grass but less likely with a child falling from a low height. It is also more likely that a child can be knocked over from the lead when the owner is holding onto the other end and apparently this was not the case according to the report. I suppose if the two dogs were joined at the collar or if a split lead was being used then this could create a potential hazard. I dunno really, it is impossible to know the full story from this news report. I see no good outcome from this, regardless of the cause
  6. I wonder if DOLer Steve could make you up something with Coconut oil and Calendula etc but without any fragrant oils suitable for frequent washing???
  7. I am another one for coconut oil. Massage in and leave in, if the dog is too greasy after a while, get a damp towel and wipe the fur lightly. I have even dampened the towel with calendula tea.
  8. I wish I had never opened up this thread... I am completely sickened, appalled and horrified by this. I'm now off to take my canine buddy for a walk.

    Humping

Thanks Luvsdogs, He has been a bit better with the humping but will try it on and if the dog is very submissive I have to grab him, walk him away, get him to sit. This helps. Anyway, he is booked in for his surgery next Friday, he will be 9.5 months and this is what the vet recommended previous vet recommended 5 months. Anyway the surgery is really only for the potential health issue of the retained nut, not for behavioural reasons. I have heard of some waiting for up to 3 years with no problem resulting from the cryptorchidism, but we made the decision with the vet so we are going to proceed with it. He is of a good size so I am hoping that I won't regret opting for surgery at this stage of development.
  10. Ronin and I are going to head over to the Mt Lawley fenced in dog park at around 2;30 today (Saturday) - dunno if any DOLers can make it. BTW Ronin hasn't been there in a week or so, so he will be running around like the mad 9 month old husky that he is
  11. Well that's charming... people have devoted time and energy to try and assist you with your queries. No one here has even slightly suggested that $12k isn't a lot of money
  12. You are an excellent neighbour and what you are doing is great I can't really offer any other advice as what you have done and doing pretty well covers things especially as you say she is going to enlist the help of a trainer :) It is also quite possible that things will settle down over the next few weeks with the advice you have already offered :)
  13. I think the help you are offering is great Little Gifts, They should be able to pick up a second-hand small crate for very small money through gumtree or similar. I understand that things are very tight on a pension but spending some money on a pet is unavoidable. I do however concede that $45 for an Adaptil collar is expensive but really at around $11 a week for a duration of 4 weeks could possibly be budgeted?

REUTERS/Carlo Allegri By Amanda Orr HOUSTON (Reuters) - A Texas company is offering a unique send off for beloved pets by placing a portion of their cremated remains in a capsule and blasting them off into space. Celestis Inc, which has provided memorial space flights for human remains since 1997, will launch its first commercial pet memorial spaceflight in October 2014 with the remains of a blue merle Australian shepherd, named Apollo, the company said. The pet services, such as one dubbed Earth Rise, start at $995 and include having the pet’s remains into flown into space on a commercial flight and returned to the owner. The space send-off options go up to $12,500, which allows the pet’s remains to be launched into deep space or to visit the moon. Memorial service are available before blast off and families can witness most of the launches, depending on location, the company said. "Our pet service flights are an idea that’s been a long time coming," Celestis Chief Executive Charles Chafer said. (Reporting by Jon Herskovitz; Editing by Bill Trott)
  15. It might be worth trying an Adaptil collar for 4 weeks, it may help the transition. Alternatively they could try Natural Animal Solutions Calm http://www.naturalanimalsolutions.com.au/all-products.html or a supplement that has Tryptophan https://www.pawbyblackmores.com/products/multi-tryptophan-chews http://www.productreview.com.au/p/vetalogica-canine-tranquil-formula.html
  16. Thanks so much for this. I am happy to go ahead and purchase now :) Cool, I am sure you will like it, and hope to see pics with it on.
  17. No worries, I am in Joondanna (between Tuart Hill and Mt Hawthorn) Send me a PM and we can organise :)
  18. Not cheap but the Julius K9 IDC pack and harness will fit what you want. BTW > I am NOR so could possibly meet up if you wanted to check mine out.
  19. I agree Julius size 2 should be fine, my boy is around 25kg and there is heaps of room for growth and even some room to reduce size.
  20. I met a couple of Shiba Inus at the park the other day, different days and different dogs and owners! They are beautiful little guys. Knitting with Husky fur is not uncommon believe it or not. Some of my Wife's friends in Russia have made hats, mittens and jumpers from the fluff they shed!
  21. If you don't mind hair in your coffee, pockets and other strange places then a Husky could be the dog for you  Seriously though, my Husky stopped dropping hair this Winter, it has been great! In the other months he will continually shed. We have floor boards so it is easy to sweep up with those floor duster type thingies. We have a couple of lint rollers for clothes and we use a dyson cordless stick vac.
  22. Thanks for the comments, I find the topic fascinating.
