Help! Fitting Dog.. Goodbye Sweet Daisy Girl
White Shepherd mom replied to openarms's topic in Rainbow Bridge
Oh openarms, I am so very sorry this happened to Daisy - as soon as she finds love and happiness something else happens to ruin it. From your description of her before you found her it sounds like she might have been abused in her previous home - if she'd been beaten on the head, is it possible that over time the damage could have resulted in this un-ending seizure? Does anyone have an opinion on this? Well done to you for taking her into your home and showing her the love and kindness all living creatures deserve. -
I'm so sorry you lost Maggie so suddenly, but oh how wonderful that she spent her last years being loved and treated the way every living creature deserves. I know you miss her terribly, but take comfort in the fact that you gave her happiness. Rest in Peace Maggie Moo.

TB, if I remember correctly, the fur doesn't fall off with a hotspot. What you're describing sounds like an allergic reaction perhaps? If you're not careful, it could possibly turn into a hotspot though. Cloverfdch is right about humidity or damp skin being the start of them. Apparently there are certain bacteria that love the warm, damp skin of dogs and thrive on it. This agitates the dog which scratches while the bacteria continues to thrive. It often starts as a little spot and within a couple of hours you can have a huge festering wound which needs intervention. A vet would shave the area (usually chaving half the dog at the same time!), clean it and give antibiotics. At least $60 thank you very much. What I used to do is clip the hair as close to the skin as possible, clean it out with some dilluted dettol or any doggy wound product you might have and make sure it stays dry. I've never tried bicarb but sounds like a great idea. It usually scabs over in a day or two. The trick is to catch it early. Shek, I'm no expert but the pic you posted does not look like a hotspot to me.

Hi Megs, I have just read your posts on Eddie (been trying to limit my DOL time!). I am so sorry he is not well. Poor little mite does not sound well. I hope he recovers quickly. Have you posted on the canine-epilepsy forum? You'll probably find other people who have had the same problem and who can give you some advice. Just remember, everything we go through with epi, has already been experienced countless times by others before us. Sending prayers and hugs to Eddie

I stumbled across these links if anyone is interested in having a look: http://www.allergicpet.com/products/seizur...leSeizureAdWord http://www.epilepsyhealing.org/ I haven't had a good look yet so can't say what's on them!

I am so very sorry for baby Bear's passing, Crysti Lei. What a lucky girl she was, finally knowing love and devotion in her final years and to have passed to the Bridge in the loving arms of her mummy and daddy. She will be watching over you both until the day you meet again. Thank you for sharing her story and showing us what a beautiful soul she was. Lots of hugs

I don't know who is right here - I have previously read about the horrific IAMS experiments and I have also read that those practises are old and not followed any more. In truth, how do you know what dog food is premium? Which ones are good for a dog's teeth, joints, organs unless some kind of tests were performed? I do not support invasive or cruel tests and where possible only use cruelty-free cosmetics. However, as I have read that the IAMS old forms of testing are a thing of the past, I am happy to feed it to my dog as it is the only food I have found that keeps his stomach solid and the gassy smells to a minimum. If and when I find evidence to the contrary, I will look for a brand that does not test. My only thing against IAMS is that is made by Procter and Gamble so I will be keeping my eyes and ears open.

Mel, does it have to be an urn? Can you not choose a little box or something as earthly with a little name tag on it?

When I was looking to change Casper over to adult food, the research I did led me to believe I should do so at 18 months. When he was 13 months old I asked the vet and she said I should be doing it around 12 months. That same day, I started mixing his puppy and adult food together. I did that for a month, gradually increasing the adult foor and decreasing the puppy food. He's always been on IAMS for large breeds. He is now 4yo and weighs 38kg has no bone or joint problems that I can see.

Hi Katey, I hope the pain you feel for your loss of Maya is subsiding and more good memories are coming back to you now. It's lovely that you have places to visit that remind you of him and one day when you least expect it, the tears will stop falling and a peaceful calm will envelope you. Look after your mum, angel Maya.

I am so sorry for the loss of your darling boy, Mel. You have said goodbye to so many special angels, I don't know how you do it. One day, when your time comes to join them, there will be so much love waiting to greet you. Until you meet again, Rest in Peace precious angel.

Bad Doggie Breath!
White Shepherd mom replied to toby lever's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Does the dog in question show any signs of having anal gland problems, ie scooting or always trying to attack his bottom? If the answer is no, I'm not sure I would be heading down the anal gland route at all. -
Bad Doggie Breath!
White Shepherd mom replied to toby lever's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
toby, do you feed bones? They are excellent for cleaning dog teeth. My two are over 4yo and still have white teeth and no smelly breath because they get bones often. Can I ask what you feed your dog? -
Something Wrong With My Puppy.
White Shepherd mom replied to carlee's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I hope you have left for the vet already. Don't take chances trying to self-diagnose with a 9 week old. They are too fragile for guesswork. I hope all is well, please let us know. -
just saw your post isaviz, so glad Elka's condition is not too serious. How did she pull her tendons? Was that from rough play? I don't know about Elka but when Casper hurt his back leg, he could only walk on 3 legs....but when it came to running he sped around on all 4s - you'd never know there was anything wrong!
-
Megs, when my vet first put Casper on Pb she warned me he'd be wobbly for about 2 weeks (as well as a ravenous appettite and increased thirst). This boy WOULD not sit still. He swayed after me wherever I went and always looking for food which is totally not him! Despite being unable to walk straight, after 3 days on pb he was at his favourite place - the back fence, where he still managed to play chase with the dog next door. After the first week he was perfectly fine although still hungry! What I'm saying is, different dogs react differently but Ed will be back to normal before you know it! Let us know how you go! Sheltielover, it's great to see you still writing in this topic. I hope you are feeling better!

Staffy-lover, to answer your question look at my sig...Casper is the white one (hence my user name ) Megs, have you specified how long Eddie has been on Pb for - there's too many pages to re-read!? If possible, would you be able to give him his Pb 3 times a day (I don't know what your daily schedule is like) if a vet was to recommend it? You say you've moved but you didn't say where - I don't suppose you're anywhere near Dundas?
-
Hi Megs, I'm sorry your boy has to go on meds but if you're as lucky as me, you'll wonder what the fuss was about. Casper sz were two weeks apart when we put him on pb and he has not had a sz since - and that was in May I don't remember if you said how much your boy weighs. How much pb is the vet putting him on? What vet do you go to? I lived in Sydney at the time Casper went on meds so I'm just curious what vet you use. I hope this will sort things out for you! BTW, about the diet. It generally sounds good although some owners of epi dogs have eliminated all grains from their dogs diets and they reckon that has helped reduce sz. If you want to give it a shot, try putting some raw veg through a food processor and see if he'll eat them.

Oh Julie-Anne, how awful, poor little bunny. Do you know what was wrong with her? Do bunnies and budgies also go to the Bridge or do they have their own special place? Lots of hugs

What Is The Best Dry Food?
White Shepherd mom replied to Staffy-Lover's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
me again, I'm on the petdeli site and I see they're selling a dog food called "Petz total". This is what they say about it : Pets Total is an ideal food for all adult dogs as it is 100% balanced and complete, offering all that is required for the nutritional intake of your dog. 22% protein and 15% fat content. No artificial preservatives, colours or flavours are added. Product has been formulated to the guidelines of AAFCO. It costs $40 for a 15kg bag. Has anyone tried it? Do you know where I can see the list of ingredients? -
What Is The Best Dry Food?
White Shepherd mom replied to Staffy-Lover's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Just a question - there seem to be two Natural Balance brands - the Dick Van Patten one and an Aussie one...am I right? I'm looking at the ingredient list on the Aussie site http://www.naturalbalance.net.au/products.php and I see the first ingredient is rice and the third is corn gluten meal. Not quite what I wanted to see. So, where do you buy the Dick Van Patten one? -
oooh, thank you for the suggestion! please tell us what brand it was, I must try it on my two as it's almost time to bath them!

Gsd Wont Eat Properly
White Shepherd mom replied to gillbear's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
what a beauty, she hardly looks like the same dog! Is she still a fussy eater? Well done to you for persevering! -
hi Wayno, is your beagle on medication? Is she from a breeder (I ask in case the breeder would be willing to take her back) If not, could you contact a beagle rescue group and discuss the matter with them to see if they can help? What a sad situation for this little dog to be in. I hope for her sake you manage to sort something out. Please let us know what happens.

Puggles, I am not sure if you've looked at sheltielovers' other posts since you wrote this, but little Annie has been PTS SL posted in the General and Rainbow Bridge forums. I am sorry to hear of Monte's clusters. I'm hoping a neuro will be able to help. It is awful when you can't help your babies. I would feel so helpless. Have you already found a neuro? Have you posted on the epi-k9 group? Everything crossed for your little one. Please keep us updated.
