oh my god that's awful. I'm so sorry. You must be beside yourself being so far away. Personally I'd rehome the younger immediately with the help of a rescue. And try to keep the elder one at home a while, the seniors aren't a whole lot of trouble and might give Mum some comfort.

yeah, wow, we're either irresponsibly rehoming or being too harsh. Adopters: Wouldn't you like to be informed beforehand that the dog you inquire about will (for example) tear up your apartment when you leave for a 12hr day? Howl if left alone in the yard? Require buckets more grooming/exercise/social interaction than what you realised? Terrorise your chooks? Shed their coat? Knock a toddler over because they are a doofus? Have no road sense? Or is too lazy to be your exercise partner? I'm sorry but responsible rescue doesn't just ignore the facts in front of them to get a dog into a home. We're only trying to help, not stop people owning pets! The only one who can advise you about what a dog is like to live with is the rescuer/carer. And it doesn't help that we also get the other side of the coin with constant requests from people who have made an inappropriate choice asking to surrender their pet. Hoarding :rofl: funny how that one gets thrown about.

How did scammers get lumped into discussion with reg breeders who sell online or interstate? They are worlds apart. The scammers are criminals, parasites who DO rip people off, playing on them being naive. The pups don't exist. Seriously, a person buys one pup every 16yrs and they are supposed to know all the latest rorts or who to ask? In an ideal world we'd all be savvy, and online classifieds would be more heavily edited. Scammers have the hide to email rescue as well, offering desirable litters, expensive equipment, donations or even adoption. It's disgusting.

David I saw the article about the GM sacking and Cr's receiving summonses. What does it all mean? Are the two things related?

At least now you know your dog has expensive taste. :laugh: Lesson learned. I have to watch like a hawk if the pet supply places have open tubs of smoked dog bones (the toys are up on hooks). And would fully expect to buy anything that ended up in my dog's mouth.

I guess it wouldn't be such an issue if the pounds all had a desex package. With the rising costs of everything, the one thing (imho) Muttrus' topic illustrates is that when councils discuss that instituting across-the-board vetwork: might mean less dogs purchased (more PTS).... Doesn't seem to be a valid argument anymore? And as a side note: while at BP one day we saw a lovely pensioner couple adopt a dog who was already chipped, desexed etc when impounded. They were over the moon. :) Cryptic that's sad did they say why she was not eligible?

Did you ask if there was room on the desex program? :) That would change the fee significantly.

As things stand this thread has prompted the loss of our HP temp tester/photographer and the suspension of a valued shared login. Sad for everyone involved. I hope we can all return to business as usual asap. A little understanding of the limits volunteers have and any personal ethics they may hold would go a long way in settling things down. :) xx

I can't answer that one for you Di, I'm sorry. Looks like human error somewhere but I can't explain it and can only apologise. At the moment it's hard to work out who is safe, we muddle along and continue to list because something is better than nothing if you consider how many animals get listed vs errors made. I do however, feel you're having a very public and personal dig at the volunteers who run the thread and go in to meet the dogs. Perhaps if the thread is so inaccurate you best just deal directly with the pound and use their website. Cut us out of the loop please. xanna

+1 Fran. I'm just not a fan of posing with a kill or dead thing in general (incl celebs in furs). Same for the numerous ones that appear on my newsfeed as animal welfare /anti meat/ anti fur/ petitions etc etc...... It's creepy and in some cases really morbid. Puts me right off.

I can find two black & white, smooth coat, 8 weeks 1 boy 1 girl. Not advertised yet. Desexed before adoption. Carer travels to the adopter. xx

That is very sad. We are always ready and able to list immediately with at least a mug shot or even better, one of Kel's pics and notes. I'm sorry but with so many other obligations, battling to get information when it's not forthcoming is tiresome. Did you ring the pound for a list ? Who would you like the list sent to ? Just ring and ask it is forthcoming but cannot be just sent out into cyberspace Or if you cannot call the pound ask Kelscats she will gladly give it to you I was being emailed the list every week. And have never been able to get one over the phone. :) This week apparently all the dogs were safe by the time Kel got there. Ok, fine that's great, nobody is complaining. The confusion is that a list was being posted on facebook stating several dogs were not and needed rescue or adoption. So which is it?

Allowing one private group to monopolise and control information coming out of any council rate payer funded facility is wrong and unsustainable. If a system exists that allows someone to tag all the dogs and use them to ask for money on facebook then that system is broken. HP know our concerns and were told right at the start. Ball is in their court as you can see. If we have anyone left who will go in then Dol will get the temp notes and photos.

Anne, to staff who understandably would rather see a dog leave alive and have limited time to make it happen, one single group of people who come along and take full control of the pts list would be very appealing. The details would seem like background noise of rescue bickering. There's nothing to tell management. Dogs are still getting out. Bottom line is numbers.

Yes we do - like saving dogs You might find that being less dismissive and combative would get you further when working with the established 'saving dogs' network. :) I have no idea who you are, have never heard of you or any apparent rumors. But the way you've posted here has given a certain impression. Just saying.

cybergenesis how did you end up with a lab when neos are your ideal breed? I'd personally say loyalty should remain with dog #1, rehome newcomer dog #2. But the neo is a worry... if you think he's not a PTS candidate already you may have to keep him instead. IMHO Don't rehome a dog with obvious issues, they only bounce from place to place.

I understand what you mean. And asking here if you aren't a facebooker is fine too. They do pop up overnight, could be good could be bad... who decides. Dol is where people come when they can't get answers on FB because things can't be instantly deleted with the press of a button. :)
