A Hypothetical Question For Breeders
_PL_ replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
Genuine question but how do they go searching in australian bushland on those stumpy little legs? -
It may have been picked up by AR but as far as I can recall it's always been called an adoption fee or adoption donation. I prefer the word adoption myself, particularly after my early days in rescue coming across people who jump up and down because they have the money, chose the dog they wanted and compared the transaction to "buying a car". Which it isn't......in reputable rescue anyway. No comment on the first in best dressed speed-date rescue.
-
That's hardly outrageous. What's outrageous is that people will pay twice that from a BYB with nothing but a microchip if you're lucky. And the attitude that pound animals and rescue dogs are somewhat devalued by being 'second hand'. You most definitely are over reacting. Dogs cost what they cost. If you think it's a ripoff then don't buy one. FYI there is also a problem with re-sellers trolling for 'cheap' animals (including those already in rescue) or basically anything they can turn a profit on. Vetworked or not. A standard sold for $300 at the pound can be sold for $600 on the trading post.

Then it's best for the dog and you made a decision for her sake. You're stronger than you think.

No I haven't, how do I go about doing that? grcv.org.au :)

That's Moo Goo :) I found it best on newly rescued dogs with dry or sunburned skin. They like the taste so you do get some very keen lickers. If this is for your dog with the possible fungal or bacterial I'm not sure an unmedicated cream will clear it up unless you can find the original cause.

Have you checked if the GR club holds get-togethers or picnics for goldie owners? :)

15 Week Old Koolie Pups
_PL_ replied to Perry's Mum's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I knew that would tease you! Let me get a couple more adopted (it's been totally frantic since I listed them) and give me a bell. You can sit and wear puppies all over you. I'll even make you a cup of tea. :D Sorry to go off topic everyone. -

Sorry, there is such a thing as a donation. As a deductible registered charity we are given donations specifically for our rescue dogs. I do not want my personal dogs on an account that donors pay for. For private rescuers it depends on how you run things and how you cover the bills enough to keep your doors open. People do what works for them. What staggers me most of this whole thread is a vet clinic giving out client account details. Unbelievable. -

That sounds better if you do it that way sheree_e4. Then the applicable paperwork for the vet costs (Vaccination record etc) can be supplied to the new owner (and I'm sure they wouldn't mind paying a bit extra for feed and transport). When I contacted the rescuers vet (it wasn't you btw.....lol), they also told me that another reason my donation covered a lot more than what they had done on my new dog, was because they provided a discount for rescued dogs. I told them I was ok with my donation being used to help ANY rescues but as I said before, it was deducted from the entire account (including the rescuers own dogs). Oh well, live and learn.....LOL. That is an absolute breach of privacy on the part of the vet clinic. It's common knowledge that if a rescue is fortunate enough to have a bit left over from one dog it will always be used on the next dog. Even if whatever rescue you're talking about is doing some sort of creative accounting re using the rescue account for their own dogs which I wouldn't defend either. That clinic and it's staff has no right to tell anyone anything without permission from their client. None at all. I can't believe the lack of professionalism. -
Rspca Withdraws Cruelty Charges Against Kim Hollingsworth
_PL_ replied to Aphra's topic in In The News
Hoarders don't generally have an objective view of their activities, add this to the adulation she (and others) garners using the 'rescuer' moniker and you get someone whose perception is at odds with the reality. ^ this IMHO FB has spawned a drastic increase in the enabling of hoarders. I'm not referring to this event in particular. Tufts are researching animal hoarding and the most successful ways of dealing with the issue. As in this case, leaving it to be solely dealt with by one org and prosecuting the hoarder on animal welfare grounds without any other kind of intervention just doesn't work. You can't stop a hoarder by taking them to court and telling them not to do it again. http://vet.tufts.edu/hoarding/intervention.htm -
No, should have been clearer! Doh! It's the change of ownership on her microchip. It's like $5 admin fee to the record keeping company and has been paid now. I just had a momentary freak out that if she'd taken off she might not have found her way back. My mistake for not being thorough and making sure I had it all, but she's our first adoptee so I'm a novice! ooooooohhhh I get it! Must be a victorian thing.
-
Do they mean they haven't got a record of the adoption fee being paid? It could be an admin stuff up. I don't know about VIC but it cost nothing here to change the owner, I've never heard of anyone having to pay extra after the fact. It's all in the adoption fee.

So Why Are Breeders Reluctant To Advertise Where There Is A Demand For

Either too much or too little I'm not sure. -

_PL_ replied to SwaY's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yep but more exposure of the good ones in places where the dodgy ones also advertise help people to see the difference too. It's my comfort zone. I have zero information on who the dodgy breeders are. And there is still more info here than anywhere else AFAIK. Personally I tried listing rescues on the other sites with the same theory as you. That people should be able to see rescue dogs there too. (and through some kind of agreement every single animal listed on petrescue now shows up on trading post for this very reason). But I gave up. Lots of time wasted. The topper was the guy who constantly sends messages to rescuers that desexing a pet makes it mentally ill and retarded. -

_PL_ replied to SwaY's topic in General Dog Discussion
Google often has Dogz at the top of the results when you do a search about buying a breed puppy. I think it's a safe place for people to get reliable information and a place to buy without having to sift through breeders who are falsely claiming to be registered and avoiding the bogus nigerian puppy scam. On sites with multiple types of puppy listings and the hazy understanding people have about doing their breeder homework (such as e.g. hip scores etc) I feel better sending them here or to a breed club/breed specific rescue. -
OMG it's a dog not a bloody seagull!

Yep you can even buy our native sugar gliders in some states the exotic pet market is pretty lucrative.
