  1. Neatz, its not a change of interest but a change of ranking. Tony
  2. I have a brag probably a little different. A mate rang one day and said there"s a good dog in Town, but he is not doing too well putting up with Surburbia. The people who ended up with him, could not handle him and wanted him gone. I went and had a look at him.He was a big hard Dog,battlescarred and rough.I took him home and went from there. He had been a Bull catching Dog up North at one stage and had seen the odd knock or two. The two of us got along fine. Friends from up in the Mountains were going away for a week and asked me to look after their place. The Friends had commercial and stud cattle. The Friends warned me about one Bull as they said he was pretty rank. In the Bush, you just handle whatever comes along and I have a bad habit of understating things,so I paid the old Bull little attention except to make sure I had a Whip in the Ute. The Friends had Dog runs, some covered in,some not and had sides made of Weldmesh.I had this old Dog with me and this morning put him in one of the runs.I loaded the ute up with hay and went to feed Cattle.I was throwing hay out in a line off the back while the Ute idled along in first. The Cows were running in and then stringing out along the hay.The Cows were closest to me and spread along the line of hay.The Cows were on higher ground than me.I looked up and saw the Bull walking along behind the line of Cows, but not feeding.I paid him little attention. It was my fault for being so casual.I turned my Back and headed downhill to the ute.Turns out the Bull was just picking his spot to line me up.I saw movement out of the corner of my eye and looked behind me.The Bull was coming at a great rate of knots down the hill at me.I thought this could be interesting!!!!I did not think I had time to get to the Ute and or the Whip. The other option is to stand one"s ground and use some fancy footwork.Using fancy footwork requires one to stand their ground till the Animal gets pretty close, then take evasive action. I was debating fairly quickly which option to take. The Bull was now about three Ute lengths away from me. Next thing there was a Brindle flash fly between the Bull and I.Next thing the Bull threw his head and let out a huge bellow and started to throw his Head madly around. The Dog had climbed out of the run, flew up and hit the bull at 100 mile an hour!!!!The Dog latched onto the bull and drew him away from me.The Bull was throwing his head and of course trying to get rid of the Dog.The dog had caught many a Bull and knew just what he was doing. The Dog certainly saved me and I was pretty happy he climbed out of the run. Tony
  3. Zoe,some more information would be needed.Has she regularily stolen Food? Does she when stealing food make use of only one location such as bench or does it not matter where the Food happens to be? Tony
  4. Oonga, say hello to my ol Mate Erny for me. Tony
  5. Rachelle,a wool classing Dog gets alot better with Work and appropriate guidance.I mean as in a rural enviroment where work is much more constant. Apart from that Rachelle, you have two very very good trainers here Steve and Mark and I am sure they will present a workable option for you. Tony
  6. This thread. has got sillier and sillier!!!!More and more ignorant as it goes on. Those carrying on negatively in this thread how about trying this for a change. When somebody asks for help with a problem, stick to answers that might actually help the problem!!!!! Do not pry into somebody"s personal life and circumstances!!!! Do not assume you know the exact circumstances the OP is in!!!!! All the garabage about the poster buying a mutt and so is irelevant as the reality is the Op has the Dog and wants to rectify a problem. Sammy Ballerina, that is one hell of a silly and ignorant statement about American Bulldogs!!!!Are you an expert?Of course not!!!!With statements like that who needs BSL!!!!! I take my Hat off to those who helped and to those who acted otherwise, well its time to get a life!!!!Remember the old saying"Let he who is perfect, throw the first stone!!!!" Tony
  7. Rachelle, I am not being disrespectful but every two weeks can be a long time between drinks for a working Dog. Trying to look at all angles and eliminating all possibilites, has the dog had a hair analysis or similar to rule out any inbalance? Rachelle, have you explored training in drive? I agree totally with Mark about medication. Many times medication only masks the real problem/s. Rachelle,is your Father"s Dog working stock? It would be interesting to see changes in this Dog if she were in an enviroment where she was working nearly every day. Tony
  8. Rachelle, there could be several aspects at work here.Firstly a question.Does this Dog show any desire to herd? What is your demeanor like around this Dog?I mean your tone of voice, mood and body language? What is your level of leadership? At times a self assesment of our leadership can be a little off the mark,so it pays to have an experienced person make an objective assesment of our leadership. Rachelle one of the problems with working bred dogs in Surburbia is drive.Does this Dog have any way to release or express drive?A good working Bred Dog if it cannot express drive in a natural way, will adopt other behaviours to do so.These other behaviours are not always desirable. What is the Dogs exercise routine? Do you know this Dogs breeding? Is she from a Working line or bench line? Genetics certainly plays a big part here. My next statement is only the tip of the iceberg and will not rectify all this Dogs problems.but I would start by praising or rewarding desirable behaviour you want and correcting or ignoring unwanted behaviour. You mention her breaking the Sit.With a situation like this go back a few steps.Start again in an enviroment with no or very very little distraction like the Backyard.Get her solid in that enviroment them gradually work up to enviroments with more and more distraction. Tony
  9. Terrific post Kelpie-I. So many miss points which you have covered so well!!! As far as People trying out something he does, well thats the way it goes.He does give a warning and its time people had some backbone and took responsibility for their own actions.Somebody who trys something from a Show has made the choice to do so and must take responsibility. Tony
  10. I have to agree with Steve as I too saw the remark as oneupmanship. Tony
  11. Eileen, you cannot go wrong with Steve.Money and time well invested. Tony
  12. Winterpaws, you made an assumption that I was regurgitating Ccesar"s material.Making assumptions does not work and does not give the whole picture. Amongst the Dog and Horse training fraternity much knowledge is common and not the sole property of one trainer. I will bet it was my statement, that firstly we deal with an Animal, then Dog,then breed of Dog.Cesar would tell you himself that the concept was around long before him.I have been using the same perception applied to Horses that my grandfather used to drum into me years ago.The perception applies to all animals not just dogs. Tony
  13. Tess, instead of having a little Dig about me respecting him because as a Person he built his dream, tell you what get back to me when you have achieved something noteworthy like Cesar has. Tony
  14. With any Television show we are only seeing so much of the picture due to time availible. I admire Cesar as a person. He had a dream and went for it!!!!He kept going till he turned his dream into reality!!!He did not let anything deter him!!!! Anybody who follows their dream and has the guts to do what it takes has my respect!!!!! Tony
  15. Midol firstly what sort of a Bed does the Dog have? I would be checking your boundarys and leadership with this Dog,as the top dog always claims the best place to camp. Resource or Food guarding is a natural thing to a Dog and is part of survival.A pack will drive others off their kill and a pack member will at times guard their food from another pack member. Its all to ensure survival. One option Midol is this.Start by finding a treat or something the Dog values highly.Give the Dog a Bone.Approach the Dog with the treat and use a Word like Give or out.As soon as the Dog has released the Bone reward with the treat.after he has finished the treat, give him the Bone back.Leave a minute ot two and repeat the exercise again. Initially when offering the treat watch the Dogs Jaw.Immeditately that he releases the Bone give your command, Give or whatever word your using. This teaches him by association, that whatever word your using means release the Bone. Tony
  16. Lablover, why would you want to disassociate yourself from the Correction?Your response is the one I suspected it would be.I mention the word resistance in my post.Have a think about what the word resistance means. Tony
  17. Lablover, please tell me how your going to dissassociate yourself from the correction with the Fly swatter and not build up resistance? tony
  18. quote from K9 I have trained heaps of dominant dogs in drive, without any problems as any time I wanted the toy, the dog wasnt in "conflict" with me.. I would happily train any dog in drive with a tug or thrown ball, if it had enough prey drive, I wouldnt be concerned about dominance at all. Exactly Steve!!!! well said. Tony
  19. Dee,you state from your posts that it has been months and the Dog still pulls.obvisouly the approach is not working and the dog is not getting the message at all. To often with Animal training one question is never asked and it should be the first cab off the rank. That question is,Where am I coming from?" In other words we must look at the part we are playing in any problem or difficulty. We need to ask,Am I doing exactly as the trainer suggested,am i truly being consistent,am I interpretating things in the same way the trainer meant?, We also need to ask around and see if the course of action suggested has been proven to be effective. Many times being Human we think we have things down pat but their is always room for improvement, so leadership needs to be checked upon and its best to get another opinion of our leadership rather then rely on our own. what was the suggestion or approach you were given to stop her pulling? tony
  20. Brett, how old is the Dog and what breed? Tony
  21. Eza,you did explain yourself well so relax.Your Brothers Girlfriend wants to feel secure when by herself. Your in good hands with Mark and don"t forget he also may know where there is a suitable Dog. Tony
