  1. Just found out a friend takes her dog there for allergies! She said vet relies alittle too much on Chinese medicine without exploring supplements but that she is amazing at what she does. My guys don't seem to respond as well to Chinese medicines as they do to supplements but it won't hurt to go and see what she has to say.
  2. I am lucky. My ones never. But I did babysit one who would jump the fence all the time and I would have to chase her up the street. And she could clear a 6 ft fence with ease. Nerve wrecking!
  3. That sounds promising. Will make an appt and see how we go!
  4. That's the one I keep finding on the info pages. Do they have good things to say?
  5. Hi, Does anyone know or can recommend a Holistic vet in the South East suburbs of Melbourne. I found one in Bentleigh but don't know if she is still there. I am near South Yarra. Am happy to travel if vet is highly recommended.
  6. Thanks Staffyluv! Agreed Re advice. Have been trying to find a good Holistic Vet down here but they seem to be few and far between in Melbourne. Unless I am looking in the wrong area. Everyone does abit of everything but not the whole lot. One of the vets at our normal clinic dabbles but even she hasn't heard of a few things I have mentioned over the years. I think I will ring the ones you mentioned and see if they can either recommend or help. And his Surgeon wants to stay in contact and keep track of him. He could be fine and show no signs of cancer again. The Surgeon just doesn't know. At the moment there is no sign of it anywhere else. Pray to God it stays that way!!! But I am working from an anti cancer perspective to stay on top of it cause just don't know what's going to happen.
  7. Mine love a full belly rub or neck scratch! You can see the utter pleasure when you get the right spot on the back of their necks. They are in pure heaven.
  8. Just noticed your thread! Have no experience with this one but definitely look into as many options as you can! There is alot of holistic options out there which could definitely help. You just need to check whether what you choose can be used in conjunction with chemo. How is the chemo again? Hope your doggie is doing OK.
  9. He was on K9 Immunity for general health because his girlfriend, Sammi, has dreadful allergies and as they steal each others food, it was easier to give it to both of them so Sammi got what she needed. But when the AG tumor started upsetting his system before all this, I stopped it because he couldn't handle it which of course at the time I had no idea why just that things were not quite right. Maybe it has been helping all along. Surgeon gave me the clinical notes and it says that it was a Moderate Grade Squamous Pulmonary Carcinoma Have been looking it up and all the info is so confusing. So I have stopped looking!!! Basically survival rates range dramatically. Spoke to clinic last night to quickly check in and vet I spoke to said Internet always has worst case scenarios and that those reports don't take into account how long the dogs had them or when the masses where discovered. Surgeon didnt give me any figures or odds, just that he is certain that the surgery has improved his quality of life. He said Tex is a tough dog and we just have to go by Tex himself and work with him. I am quite impressed that he genuinely had Tex's best interests at heart and didn't push to have medical intervention that was not conducive to Tex's health.
  10. Results are back from lung surgery and it's abit of a mixed bag. The mass was cancer and it was a nasty one. Specialist is sure he got it all but he doesn't know what's going to happen from here. He said what's thrown him is the fact that it hadn't changed at all which is good but he just can't say if it started to spread or not. He can't find it any where else and the surgery has definitely given Tex a better chance at living alot longer. He doesn't want to do chemo as he said there is no evidence it even works for this type and he wants Tex to enjoy the rest of his life not spend it in hospital getting treatment that may not even work. He is happy for me to go down holistic path and wants me to kept him updated. He was so upset about it. He said he was really hoping that it waa a low grade mass that he can confidential say is done and dusted. So have already started Tex on K9 Immunity and have some Currim tablets on their way and looking into anything else that will benefit him. He is doing really well. Recovering from surgery. Specialist said he is in such good condition and now it's my job to keep him as healthy as I can and hopefully stopping any further cancer and letting him enjoy himself! So glad I agreed to the surgery. Atleast it's given him a much better chance and a healthy rest of his life.
  11. Why not just ring and say you want to come and see/meet the pups and the parents? If they are legit breeders, they will have no issue with you doing this at all. If they are hesitate or put up a wall for whatever excuse they come up with, then they are not legit and I would be asking for my money back! I have never ever come across a legit breeder who would refuse a potential owner, especially one that has put a deposit down, to come and see the dogs/dogs in question!!! Only time I can think of is if it was/is interstate or overseas apdotion, where potential owners may not be able to get there. It will answer all the questions you have.
  12. I agree. Definitely get the pathology done. You need to know what you are dealing with. And the vet needs to know the margins of how far around the tumor to take so that there is the least possible chance for it to spread or return. It sounds like you have caught it really quickly so that it has the least chance to spread. I am sure vet could work out a payment plan with you if money is an issue. Most are very good about things like that. But definitely do the pathology. Best case scenario is it comes back negative and just a beign lump!!
  13. I have meet both ends of the spectrum in terms of behaviour and desexing. I have meet some crazy desexed males and some beautiful calm and mature entire males. So unless you have a crystal ball, it's pretty hard to tell. The only real guarantee is that desexing will stop sex drive and unwanted mating. Me personally think that if you are not going to breed then desexing would be the direction unless you are an owner that will ensure no accidental mating can happen. If you are going to breed or want to keep that option for future then the implant would be the option. My last two males I was going to keep entire but they both become horn little ratbag at different ages, and were getting quite frustrated. Desexing didn't alter their drives or personalities one bit but it stopped most of the frustrating sexual behaviour. One was older when he was done so he still had a tendency to hump every so often!!!
  14. I wasn't going to do the surgery but in that last week or so, he really turned the corner and you could see how much he was picking up and getting better. That AG tumor really knocked him around! I am glad I waited the extra two weeks. It made a huge difference to his health! And after speaking to a few vets and the Specialist, they turned me around so I agreed to it last week. They made alot of sense about it. Surgeon said he didn't usually push so hard for someone to do the second op but as a Surgeon and the fact that everything else was such good results, he wanted to give Tex the best chance for the years to come he could.
  15. If you could get to Cranbourne, which is mostly likely too far but in any case, Barry Haywood is fantastic. Been using him for years.
  16. Tex has had his lung surgery this week and is home recovering. He still has a little way to go but so far he is doing really well. He is much better than after the AG surgery. He was much healthier this time and you can see the difference. Next check up is next week. Surgeon is very happy with how it all went. There had been no changes in the lung so if it's nasty, he thinks its most likely a low grade tumor and hopefully didn't have time to spread or do damage. It's been sent for pathology. So it's all finished and done now. There is nothing else that concerns the Surgeon and he even agreed that this is enough. No more. Now Tex can relax and take his time healing and getting back to his normal self. I am completely impressed and grateful to South Paws and the team there. They have been brilliant in their care of Tex. His surgeon is amazing and extremely talented at what he does. Thanks to everyone who supported us during this and wishes Tex has a speedy recovering!!!!
  17. Thanks! So far general opinion is that so far everything has been beign and dealt with so why leave a potential harmful one in there when there is no cancer anywhere and I do agree. It seems pretty straight forward but it is still major surgery.
  18. You should be able to use both together. That's what my vet get me to do last year. Good luck. Hope he is feeling better soon!
  19. Thanks for your response. Am speaking to a few vets this week to find out more. Have spoken to a few people whose dogs have had lung surgery and dogs have or are doing really well. Guess we will see what vets say this week.
  20. I also have my two big cats on Lysine as when they get stressed, they develop weepy eyes left over from cat flu as kittens. They are very healthy boys, havent been sick since they were first came home from pound. But we lost their buddy last year and they both started getting sore eyes within a month from grief. Since Lysine - no problems. I do give them a break every now and then and if I go too long, one will start to show signs his eye is playing up.
  21. Has anyone had experience with lung surgery? We may be facing having to remove a mass about 3 cm big from bottom the lung. Surgeon doesn't know what it is just that it should come out as soon as possible but Tex is still recovering from a major op two weeks ago. This would be most definitely last surgery if it were to happen. My vet is going over everything and speaking to a few people and will see him next week to talk about it all. Any experiences would be greatly appreciated!
  22. Had Specialist today. He is down to one steroid which he can hopefully stop next week. Still haven't got result for colon tumor. But surgeon said there is now a chemo pill that is good for that type if it is cancer as I do not want to do traditional chemo. Not with young children and other pets in the house. Plus I don't know if he would handle it well from everything I have read. They want to operate on his lung to remove the mass and I nearly freaked out. I knew it was coming up but I honestly don't know if that is just one thing too much. Surgeon doesn't know what mass is and said no point doing a biopsy without just taking it out. At the moment it's around 3 to 4 cm on bottom of his lung. It hasn't changed since thry discovered it alittle over a month ago when he collapsed. I agreed to recheck it in a few weeks with CT but disagreed to surgery right now. He is only just getting over the last one. I don't even know what's involued in lung surgery, haven't had a chance to look and was in too much shock to ask too many questions. Told him I needed to think about it. I just don't know what to do! Maybe I should start another thread about lung surgery.
