  1. I would not have my bitch desexed when she is in season. Having worked as a vet nurse for 10 years, thats the advice we used to give. The op becomes longer for the bitch, the uterus is enlarged & more friable. She can therefore suffer shock as the organ being removed is a lot larger! It costs more as well!
  2. Hi all - quick $ Is Leo ear cleaner availble. Have used other products since was told couldn't get it. But I done of them work as well as Leo.
  3. I looove shooping for grooming stuff. I checked out your link for doggyman brushs in the states & also found a link for some scissors....so I will probably buy some. I clip my Std girl on her body with a 7F all year round & just scissor the legs. But my girl is the house most of the time & we have heaters on etc I don't like the shaggy, scruffy look :p I have always clipped their points with a 40 blade, again that is what their skin is used to. (gently around the anus!) & I always apply Aloe Vera gel to the throat & face afterwards
  4. I have to add my sympathy here........I am looking after 2 weimaraners here & the tips of their tails keep bleeding from splits in the end. The bitch also had a broken joint at the end. Those bloody "happy long tailed dogs" Can look like a crime scene in my laundry sometimes
  5. I will definately be trying on the poodles. Thanks
  6. Yes.....just. I got her to the vets & she was turning blue. My vets are fanatastic. They stabilized her & operated & she had her stomach stitched to her abdo wall. She never bloated again. RIP Amy.
  7. Wow....I've just made these balls. I was skeptical, thinking "no way will this fussy Std Poo eat anything with peanut butter & wheatgerm" OMG My girls loved them.......now I am just hoping we don't get an explosive cahnge @ the other end Not sure how much I can feed her them. My stomach still feels queazy from making them I think I used to much peanut buttter , so I had to add more w.germ to make them less.......ercky!
  8. I'm flat out getting Std Poos to eat & weimaraners to STOP eating
  9. Very sad news especially for your niece. Sending my sympathies to you and your family. My kids are around the same age, they ask some strange question but they seem to understand what is going on. Hope she is feeling better soon.
  10. I have an "itchy" Std Poodle that I am trying to grow coat on for the show ring. She has been on AB's for bacterial infection & Malaseb washes. I found the Malaseb seemed to inflame it more an make the coat dry. A fellow DOLer suggested to Fish Oil capsule. Has only been 2 weeks but the itchy has eased. Also agree Frontline suks! Used to be great!
  11. Your girl is telling you she doesn't want to be near other dogs - yes she doesn't dound like she is socialised and yes she doesn't know what to do. To help her - don't plave her in situations that she doesn't feel comfortable in, not until she & you receive professional help. If a dog is quite happy living on their own with humans they don't need to socialise with other dogs, especially off the leash. Most often it is the human owner that likes to see thier pet playing. As humans, some of us don't like other humans or we might meet people that we don't like! Its normal. Same as it is for dogs. If you want her off leash around other dogs you will need to get some help, so you can help her to do so without being worried. Just my opinion!
  12. Whilst working in a vet hospital for 11 years I saw more injuries from pinch collars, prong collars and the good old choker chains.
  13. If fitted and used correctly a head collar will give you the greatest control over a lunging dog. Don't attempt dog obedience classes as the very thing that worries him is everywhere!!! You need to try different head collars & finds the one that best fits your dog. I have fitted 100's of head collars, you will not injure his neck, as its fitted to the dogs head!!
  14. I have just come home from teaching pp @ my vets. Lots of fun & all the pups are soooo cute. The owners are usually all motivared & great to work with. Do your homework though - pp should be reward based training only (no chocker chains) and no free for all puppy play!! Puppy classes should be FUN for both owner & pup. I always enjoy them as well even after a long day......
