That B word is a baaaad word here It strikes fear in my heart I hope you dog is making a good recovery. Out of 5 Std Poodles I have owned 2 suffer bloat, both needed surgery, both had gastropexy, they were 9 & 10yrs respective....and they were mother & daughter. The are a number of factors mosr have been mentioned in this thread, deep chested dogs age stress genetically predisposed eating or drinking immediately before of after exercise kennel management if numbers of dogs I'm sure there are plenty of dogs in the ring that have suffered from bloat. My bitch here is still going very strong & will be 12yrs in Sept! I am a VN & I try to do everything right....but sometimes sh!t just happens

Poodle Mum replied to Dame Aussie's topic in General Dog Discussion
Ditto....Gecko Tree It involved a used nappy......I was sooooo tired & not happy when I saw my Std Poodle having a great time! -
Definately!!!!!! All depends on Poppy :D

I have tried the ezi-walker on my Std Poodles.....and I am not a fan of harnesses for anti-pulling......give me a head collar any day!!! But I decided to give it a try....& they have been great. I am even teaching owners in my puppy classes about them.

We loooove camping & we always take the dogs (3 std poodles & 2 human kids )....We have a large Xpen so they are never tethered & a very comfy XXL soft sided awesome crate that they all snuggle up at nite together. (I was lucky enough to buy from a DOLer here!) Go the power site if available & you can ahve a home away from home Doggy first aid kit is very similar to all the stuff I take for the humans....so we can share if needed ....I always have vetrap, bandages & swabs. Some saline for cleaning or flushing any probs, tube of cortisone cream, disposable gloves, antihistame tabs, anti diarr. tabs and of course towels & poo bags. Good coffee & biccies, choccies. Champagne & cheese Have fun!

What about the people that do this to poor poodles........... PS love the corded. I have meet one in the flesh.....It looks soooo spunky! Would love to give it a go........its not worth the stress
-
I am a bit biased.....I currently have 3 Std poo's My crew love a walk, but they don't bug me every day for a walk. They get walked when it suits me. They are quite happy on my deck with a bone when I am at work or just as easily crated! If you want a big goofy clown that loves training & will adore you & your family, then a Std poodle is for you. They are very versatile & can be clipped off short & spunky or left a bit longer and woolly I came to have Std poodles after a very traumatic experience with my first dog. My poodle taught me to trust dogs again :D I will not be without them! The 3 Stooges
-
I doubt that liver treats for training would be making them "fat" When a vet says a dog needs to lose weight, they mean cut down on the daily food that they eat as their meal.
-
Std Poodle ticked all the boxes......until.....would be a showdog first.............Thats like hitting yourself on the thumb with a hammer just for fun ...on your first dog........I should know Instead of brushing everyday, if they are clipped short every 6-8 weeks, they are very minimal grooming. No shedding or blowing coat. They are great family pets, love training & having fun. Exccellent watchdogs too. Gee....I'm a bit biased I only have 3 :D

Breeder Wanting Puppy Back For Future Litters
Poodle Mum replied to westozmike's topic in General Dog Discussion
Wow!!!! now I know I must be abnormal I have been given 2 bitches under "breeders terms" & have not had any probs at all!!! But it has been with the same person each time. He has placed no pressure on me at all to title the bitches, "just have fun & love her"!!! was always the agreement. I paid for the upkeep of the girls ....food, vacc etc & and at a time that was agreeable to both of has we would have a mating!! He has always been generous to me............occassionally mags from OS & some $$ every now & them, flea treatment etc. I was only only at the vets today getting bloods done, as she is is season!! and we are organising the mating. This has always worked for me & my family..........but you really need to "suss out the breeder".........Mine sounds like a one in a million Good Luck Woo...... that sounded weird when I read it back..................we did not have a mating!!!!!! -
I watched the whole show and I thought the dyed & trimmed poodles were gorgeous :D .....I wish I had the time and patience. Interesting that the proram said that owning dogs in China was considered a status symbol (He said this while walking 3 std poo's ) Funny though, the chinese girl didn't understand the term "pet dog"........while she was scouffing off on brown dog
-
My girls are Poppy & Tango.........Passed over girls are Elle, Amy & Molly :D
-
What a rude human.......hope you didn't spend any money there!! Some people don't know their arse for their elbow Same as poodlemum I clip my lot down for summer & have previously clipped many breeds. A thick matted "insulating" coat does nothing for the dog. Lady looks like a sweetie.....with a very tidy haircut!
