  1. Is there anyway you can give her some extra fluids? either subcutaneously or intra veinous?? to help her out if she is not eating well. Flush her out esp if she has had sepsis & boosting her hydration level may help the appetite. Good Luck.
  2. Not so late for mine, my dogs are usually fed morning and night, night is usually between 9pm and 11pm I am quite convinced, more than anything else, that a dog must have a genetic predisposition to bloat for GDV to occur. Once there is genetic predisposition, then instigating factors like diet, immune, and environmental conditions come into play. Very true Lilli....my girls were mother & daughter. They bloated at 9yrs then daughter at 9yrs & 11yrs. The gastropexy saved the daughter the second time around, the stomach was unable to twist. Vets I have spoken to say age is also a factor in the predisposed breeds. My current bitch will have a gastropexy when she is speyed next year.
  3. Glad all is OK Lilli.....I was going to post earlier. I have been down the same road with 2 of my bitches. 1am is late for feeding? I try to avoid feeding after 2pm.... I don't want a gas build up & a tummy full of food o'nite.
  4. 1. Fun/silly 2. Intelligent 3. Trustworthworthy 4. Loving 5. Beautiful :D
  5. I too use Comfortis on the dogs and the cats. I used to use bombs. Now I buy the floor sprays & or carpet & flea spray & apply every couple of days. Capstar is useful as well if the fleas are bad.....but it only kills the fleas on the animal. No residue effect.
  6. I have to deal with nearly every week when I teach puppy classes ....trying to teach the benefits. Usually on week 4 they tell me the puppy is still peeing everywhere!! O'well
  7. Depends on the size & how attached they are eg floppy & mostly skin or a firm digit. If it is firmly attached, the joint as to be removed so its a bigger op. If they are no probs, just leave them.
  8. Anyone who has ever held a puppy whislt its tail has been cut off...knows that they DO have pain receptors. I own a previously docked breed and I am quite happy wil their tail......even though my boy does have a crappy, very gay tail which would not be evident if it was docked I feel uncomfortable when asked to sign a petition about allowing tail banding as I don't feel we should be docking tails. But......go to any dog show and check out how many natural bob tailed individuals there are ;)
  9. These pics are just gorgeous I am a serious "poodle-nut" & have never really looked at other breeds to want to own. I love dogs with brains & beauty ....as well as silliness!! But this thread has got me coming back for more. They look soooo expressive & fun. They also look like they would be great to work. Am I allowed to say they are pretty
  10. I have a gorgeous 9 wk old Aussie in my puppy classes at the moment, the owner is lovely too ....she may be a DOLer He is like a little bear, the owner plans on showing him. I better watch out in those sweepstakes!..I am sure she will do well!
  11. Are you sure it is read & score in Australia?? Its more likely to be able to offer PennHip rays. A vet needs specialised training & certification, as well as the eqiupment just to be able to take the rays for evaluation. The rays need to be sent to PennHIP Analysis Center for evaluation. Check out the website http://research.vet.upenn.edu/pennhip/GeneralInformation/WhatisPennHIP/tabid/3232/Default.aspx
  12. I had my boy scored with Pennhip a few months ago and that took 5-6 weeks......they do go to the US for reading then the results go back to referring vet & then they post them out.
  13. I'll be the one with the silly Std Poodle ;)
  14. The metal framed beds with the hession liners are the ONLY things my Std poodles cant rip & destroy!!! When they dig a hole in the centre, or it gets to sagging,,,,,,I buy new ones for $3.00 each :D Ive given up!!
  15. To be on the safe side.....don't give him any food or water until been to the vets. Don't take him for a walk in the morning or do anything to get him to excited. It just helps to circulate toxin.....that is if it is a paraylsis tick. Hope it is not a paraylsis tick.
  16. He married a vet nurse and poodle freak! he knew what he was in for He has his hobby! I have mine!.....we respect each other.
  17. I use the collars & frontline together.
  18. im with christina....never reprimand a stud dog for humping bitches he lives with. Sounds like a negative association between you and the bitch and him. I was dealing with a stud dog that had troubling doing the deed in the presence of the owner. Have your vet collect a fresh sample and ai the bitch.
  19. I only use Akuna Care at Abermain. The couple that own it....Marcus & Ariel are great with the dogs. I have had dogs with behaviour probs that I was nervous to leave & they were brillant with her.
  20. We have used the "dog proof" screen stuff from Bunnings when we replaced our screens. They have been great!! They have keep out 40kgs of Weim & crazy Std Poodles who want to be in when I want them out
  21. I have had Std Poodles for 19 years as pets & have bred, 15yr old girl euthed after back legs wore out from being old! 11yr old euthed with inoperable spleenic tumor, bloated at 9 yrs...successful surgery 11 yr old daughter of above euthed this year with IMHA, bloated at 7yrs then at 9yrs. Has surgery on the first bloat. None I have bred.... that I know of have bloated. But have lost 1 to IMHA at 18mths & 1 to eplilepsy. I know of many Std Poodles in Australia that have died from bloat.....some breeders just don't like talking about it. Have 5 Std here now & bloat worries me more than cancer.
  22. Hi PA...I am a coastie! But I live on the other side of the coast I am on the Gosford side :D I work at Gosford Vet Hosp running their Puppy Classes.
