  1. " No it's not a labradoodle.........." "Yes poodle's come that big"  " No its not a french poodle"....... (he's very much a male show std poodle in continental trim :D )
  2. My girl had a pexy after her first GDV, she did bloat a year later but there was no torsion involved. I was still prepared for the worst though. My 2 bitches were mother & daughter, so def a familial component there.
  3. So sorry to hear that Sway.....its a bloody awful disease/condition. We must also factor in age. Any deep chested dog over 7/8 years is high on this to be affected. This came from treating vets I worked with....
  4. Unfortunately you can all the 'right'things and they still bloat. I have had 2 std poodles bloat and both survived...one only just. Both girls also had torsion or GDV I won't muck around giving mylanta or degas tabs...I would b straight to the vet.
  5. My dogs are crated.....when I go to work my 2 show dogs are crated. My bitch can be left free range in the house. If it is not raining she can be outside with the other 2. They sleep inside in their crates. :) The crates are in the family room. It works for my family :D
  6. My girls babies are 3 days old.....She never spends any time in the box prior to the whelping. But my bitch is allowed access inside so I can keep an eye on her. The pups are whelped inside & the box is in the lounge room so the pups are part of the household, noises and family etc. When the first stage of whelping begins my bitch follows me around & is restless, will nest under my bed etc. I don't leave the house that day til I know all the pups are out! So on Tues nite/wed morning I sleep in the lounge room & my girl lay with. When the final contractions began & it is obvious a pup was on its way I sat in the box with her & this is where the pups are born. Now she only goes outside for a quick toilet break & rushes back to her babies :) Good Luck
  7. Only saw one true OCD tail chaser whilst working for vet behaviourist for 10yrs. It was very sad, something I will not forget. Was PTS after many attempts of different meds. Whilst there saw dogs that had been to other vets....who had had their tails removed.....as that was seen as "the prob".....the dog still chased "its tail".......funny that!! Behaviour is controlled by its outcome.....I teach my clients in puppy training classes "any attention is good attention" :)
  8. Must have jinxed me......was clipping out my boy for the weekend....and my clippers just died.... nooooooooooo
  9. I only wish James could hear all these lovely comments.....
  10. I use the 2 speed Wahl. A 10 blade will keep the hair around the eyes & face clean. This is what you get when you purchase the clippers. A 4,5 or 7 blade can be used on the body & legs. The higher the number on the blade, the closer the clip....eg 40 blade is a surgical clip....no hair! Its what I use on my poodles points....face, feet & tail!, but I show him so his skin is used to being clipped that short.
  11. It is exactly that!....similar to the jacobosen organ in cats. They are "tasting" the odours or aromas. Boys do it as well when smelling bitches urine. Humans do it too, when slurping & tasting wines.....but we are not as good at it though as the four legged animals :D
  12. He was a lovely person and a great vet. He saved one of my girls after she bloated, she was literally dying as I got to the hosp. James was very gentle and very caring. Always had time for a chat RIP James. xx :'(
  13. Thanks....I haven't got the numbers for sat yet. Hope they will have the breed down included as well.
  14. thanks.....i thought the b show was reverse order. I will need to be there at 'crackers' with a Std poodle to do all the prep!!!!.....yikes
  15. Take away any toy she may have adopted as her family.....I'm mean!..LOL. don't keep checking for milk by squeezing teats..will just cause more!
  16. Same as all others.....I wont enter again if they were rude or overly firm with their handling of the dog. I always try not to enter under a judge who I know is a "face judge" ( i am not a face  ).....but I usually end up entering thinking maybe will be different...
  17. Definitely depends on the individual. A couple of years ago I was going to use a 10 yr Std poodle I had bred to try & carry on the old bloodlines behind him with my current girl, but his sperm count was zilch
  18. We are expecting std poodle babies on 11th July!!
  19. Try not to worry....all you can do tonight is leave out some more food. Try and get a look yourself at it. A little bit of blood goes a long way. Possibly has been fighting? has an abscess? esp if its a street cat/stray. I would try the vets in your area. One may have a trap or may be able to help?
  20. .....my poo needs some of those fancy leg warmers!! He just gets to wear a skivvy to stop the slobber completely saturating him
  21. Yep....Gosford is Sunday. I am just a glutton for punishment  . I figure if I have to bath & show my coated std poodle for a weekend.....I may as well get 2 shows out of him  But am not feeling that enthusiastic now....am just back from EP. Hairspray & rain is not a good look.....mud & a white std poodle is definately not a good thing
  22. Just back.....everything is wet...wet ....wet!!! Was not a good day for a coated white std poodle....hairspray and rain do not mix.. The rain was constant enough to be annoying.
  23. Have just finished my boy for tomorrow.......we started at 4pm & had an hour for dinner break. Am too tired to scissor that will have to be at the show. Then I will get there & think "why didn't I just stay up" Not sure how I do this much hair......
